Re: 4 screw brass top coils

I appreciate the comments from folks knowledgeable about coils. I'm planning to use the coils in my 1913 touring. I currently have 4 screw brass tops in it with an original coil box. I will likely replace the capacitors and replace the points with new ones in order to save the old points.

Re: 4 screw brass top coils

Hi Dave I believe the 4 screw design change was in May of 1915. I think also the size of the coil and the location of the contacts also changed.

Re: 4 screw brass top coils

I recently acquired what appears to be an original undisturbed 1913 KW coil box with coils. It appears to have been sleeping for a very long time, maybe 100 years. The coils are 6 screw with flat "blued" brass tops. The box has original finish and KW instructions in the lid. It was interesting to se...

Re: Wanted early KW coils

I have an early 13 that takes the larger coils. I run the later standard size coils with copper tabs soldered on the contacts so that they make contact with the coil box. I also use a 3 wood shims between the coils.

Matt, very cool and nice work. I would be very interested in building one and trying it out. Would you be willing to share a description of parts, design etc either on the forum, or privately via email or PM?

Best Regards, John

Re: Identifying correct coil box for early 1913

Daren, here is another option to consider. I have a 1913 with an original KW coil box. I use later more modern coils with brass strips soldered to the contacts and wood spacers in the coils box. See 2 pictures: 1) the coils in the box with spacers. 2) 3 coils: later one, 1913 one with lower contacts...
