Re: Webinar

Stan,

I'm on and I'm no tech wiz. Started checking it out around 9:30, signed up OK and went right on at 10. First time on Zoom. Normally nothing ever works like that for me.

Re: Back to school

In closing this thread out, my niece presented me with the thank you letters from the kids. It was optional but they all chose to do it. 29 of 'em. It seems they talked about what they liked most during the presentation and then many asked a question. I just sampled three letters here. I'll answer t...

Re: Back to school

Thank you fellow Model Trs for all your support. If the opportunity ever comes your way, take it if possible. Just not 100 kids! I will check out the kid program offered by the club.

Thanks,
Al

Re: Decorating for Christmas

I purchased about 8 sets of battery operated lights from Amazon for around $8-10 each. They came with black wiring too and lots of options like flashing, steady, slow, etc. Harbor Freight provided the black zip ties on sale at $1.49/100. Black electrical tape worked where ties wouldn't. The best par...

Back to school

My niece, a 5th grade school teacher, saw our Model T at a doins' in San Jose in September and asked if I could bring it to her school to share with her class. They don't do field trips and she felt her students would really like it. How hard could it be? Drive the car there, let the kids see it and...

Re: What have you done to your T in October?

I'm pretty familiar with the sounds emanating from the engine of my T and something just wasn't right lately. A rod? I certainly hope not. Further investigation revealed that with the fan belt relaxed, most of the noise disappeared. The fan wobbled some on its mount so I purchased and installed new ...

Re: Three to One Gears

When I first got my car on the road in the 70s I installed 3:1 gears in my Ruckstell. I wanted to be one of the fastest Ts in the club. Wrong! I used low band on many hills that the other cars in high just dropped to Ruckstell. "You sure got a speedy car there, kid.", they'd snicker Ya, right. I joi...

Re: Recent Hot Rod Car Show

Last month the wife and I participated in our local Cruise Night. After making a pass up and back we parked alongside the street. We got plenty of exposure via foot traffic along the boulevard. Lots of interest in the T, especially young folks. Yes, no top yet but no one noticed. Sunday we're off to...

Re: Our T will finally get a top

So far I've been the only guy on recent tours with no top on my 1920 touring. But now I see there's a whole club of topless Ts that have been running around. I recently posted some questions regarding the installation of my top bows onto the car that some of you may have read. First, all four top br...

Re: Stepping Up and Kepping this Hobby Going

John, "Times are a changing". I know what you're saying. I was in my 20s during the 1970s and at that time other Model T people called me "the kid". No more. Those members are all gone and now I'm one of those guys. Years ago I would drive down to the Boulevard, the main street in Castro Valley to v...

Free tires, tubes

I have 4 Riverside 30 x 3 1/2" tires I just changed out to new. These are 50 years old but they were functional when I removed them. Just put 600 miles on this year. I prefer not to tour on questionable tires. I'm not trying to pawn off junk on anyone but sometimes a person may want some for "roller...

Re: What have you done to your T in August

Today it's nice and warm, in the 80s and I'm taking a break from my top bow project (you may have heard) to replace two front tires, flaps and tubes. The two rears were done earlier this year. I originally purchased all four Riverside tires and tubes from the Montgomery Wards catalog and picked them...

At last! At last! Be patient and the answer will eventually come to you. "Let me reiterate a comment above by Allan B. You should be able to completely remove the top "prop" nuts and have the top sit happily in place without the nuts in place. Now, I would NOT recommend that you DRIVE it like that! ...

Re: Something's Not Right with my Top - Part 2

Allan, Why would you give up? Having never had a top on this car, I have no reference other than this forum or if some Model T happens by my house. Without waiting for any further advice, I took it upon myself to just do what I thought was right. I grabbed the first bow, the one over the windshield ...

Re: Something's Not Right with my Top - Part 2

Thanks Mark, Great info here, especially on prepping the top bows. I'm setting that aside for reference. I saw a couple of pictures in there of top bows in a relaxed condition and they both seem, to me at least, to be closed a bit more than mine. In other words, those bows are much closer to a true ...

Re: Something's Not Right with my Top - Part 2

John, Thanks. It took some time to rework the position of the top brackets but they look correct now. The 4 piece wood kit was purchased from a guy in Auburn, CA who regularly advertises in the Vintage Ford. Since I had wood in my sockets whether broken, warped or intact, I was able to match up each...

Something's Not Right with my Top - Part 2

In our first episode, you'll recall I asked club members as to why my rear touring top brackets barely protruded from the armrests and that the top bows wouldn't fold down and instead rested on the armrest and upholstery. I thank all for their input. Wayne Sheldon noticed that my top bow saddle supp...

Jeff, Here's the parts I bought from the local hardware store for mine back in the 70s. That's when hardware stores sold hardware. I just pull the plug in my manifold and install. It's not a pipe thread and I only use it now and then for special occassions. Normally it's off the car. Hopefully the p...

Re: Something's not right with my top installation

I'm out here in the garage looking at this again. I need to get at least 3/4" to get this bracket to stick out far enough for the top to clear armrest when lowered. You can see from my picture that it sits on the inside surface of the armrest. I can recess the bracket some but there's a horizontal w...

I sent out the previous post since I already wrote it then I saw some more comments. Scott - not sure what you mean by sockets reversed. The two are attached together and while I understand someone could have changed them, the two rear bows "nest" correctly when stacked. From new pictures that just ...

Let me take some of the mystery out of this. I bit the bullet and did some exploratory surgery. What do you guys think now? Wow. I went to bed and when I woke up, you guys were already here with answers. Thanks. Allan, I'm way ahead of you buddy. Something's not right with my top installation

I'm getting ready to install a two-man top kit on my 1920 touring in about a month. In preparation, I began by installing new wood bows in my top irons. No problems there. The four straight wood pieces were purchased from a supplier in Auburn, CA and each one was the exact size of the old ones being...

Karen and I really enjoyed ourselves on this tour. We have been to Fishermen's Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge years ago but never to the Marin Headlands, Fort Baker, Stinson Beach, Mt Tamalpais, and many small Marin County towns. Touring through this area in a Model T made it all the more exciting...

Re: California Dreamin Tour Big Thanks

Just got back home from an amazing tour. I must admit I started out with some trepidation but apparently our car wasn't worried one little bit. I put on more miles this week than I have in the last 40 years and it felt great. Beautiful scenery, great people, fine food, very accommodating hotel and a...
