throttle linkage mod on 27 engine block

I need to run my throttle rod through the cylinders but the casting webbing is solid there. However there is a recessed portion about 1" squared that seems like it was made to be easily knocked out.. can I drill through it or drill and chisel that area to pass my throttle rod? Is this something yall...

Jim and Norman, thanks for the replies. It's good to see you all are still active here. Allan, the crankshaft was on some homemade wood V blocks when we straightened it. The force applied deflected it approx. .4 inches then we shocked it with a pieces of brass and a hammer. It took 3 or 4 try's. I d...

I am much obliged to Mr. Bob Shirley for helping me check my pan for straightness. It was a great excuse for me to leave town for a get away and it was a mighty fine day.
