I was breaking down an early transmission/flywheel assembly and got a little surprise. One of the magnets came off in two pieces! It looks like it's an original assembly as indicated by what appears to be the original lock wire. There was no indication the magnet was broken. Yup - They're out there...

It is most likely an inductor.
Ford put inductors on non-starter cars.
It was mounted on the firewall on 15-19 cars
and on the ignition switch in lieu of an ammeter on later cars without starters.

Allen,

You are correct - however,
I have spent many hours chasing a bad ground to get something to work.
The steering column has a long path to ground through the column,
through the shaft,
through the steering bracket,
to the frame.
For reliability, I will usually install a wired ground.

I put "Rod Ends" on my timer and throttle.
I don't have any play in either one now.

Out of the Ashes – A HCCT Story

A couple years ago there were devastating forest fires in Eastern Washington state. A Model T friend suffered a great loss including his shop and cars. One specific casualty was his HCCT – it was burnt to a crisp. The heat was so intense that it melted all of the internals of the meter, warped the ...

Need transport for an auction donation - HCCT.

Hello All, MTFCI will be holding an auction to benefit the MTFCI Scholarship fund at the national tour in Cadillac, MI. A Hand Crank Coil Tester (HCCT) has been donated to the auction (see below). I have restored it for the auction and need to transport it to Cadillac, MI. Is there anyone in the Pu...

Re: Ebay gripe - brass steering wheel spider

Rich,

I got it to come up with the following two searches :

Spider, Brass Era

Steering Wheel, Brass Era

My guess is that comma is confusing the search engine for other searches.

Try rewording the title without a comma.

Re: WTB MAG double contact bulbs

Mark,
I just checked my stock.
The pointy tip bulbs that I have are not Mag Bulbs.
They are single contact, 12-14 Volt, 15 C.P.
Sorry.
I do have some regular Mag Bulbs.

Re: Capacitor

Just FYI :   The capacitors sold by Langs and most T suppliers are a custom made capacitor for the Model T coil. They have an even higher dv/dt that the SBE 418 or 225 series capacitors. The current price of the 225P47494YD3 at Mouser is $9.04. The current price of the coil capacitor at Lang's is $...

Just back from the foundry, HCCT Spark Rings.

Just back from the foundry, HCCT (Hand Crank Coil Tester) Spark Rings.
This piece is many times missing or broken.
These are cast from brass-bronze.
They still need to be machined before they are ready.
Let me know if you are interested.

Allen HCCT to be Auctioned at MTFCI Cadillac Tour

If you ever wanted a HCCT, here is your chance. When we found this HCCT it had been dropped and badly damaged. Re: Profit on each Model T

I seem to recall that I read somewhere that after all was said and done the average net profit on each Model T was about $2.00.
That's $30 million dollars over the 18 year run of the Model T.
Pretty big money for that time.

Re: 1919 Magneto only horn/light wiring harness colors?

The "Resistor" that is used on the non-starter Model T is actually an Inductor. It is a coil wound around a laminated core. The inductor acts like a variable resistor that varies with engine RPM (Magneto Frequency). As your key is on the coil box, the inductor would have been mounted on the firewal...

Re: Glass plate in the coils

The original paper capacitors have no outer wrapping or insulative covering.
Thus the dielectric strength is only what can be provided by the tar.
The glass acts as an insulation barrier between the capacitor and the high voltage windings.

Magneto Field Coil Dimension

Does anyone know the radius (or diameter)
of the mounting bolt circle of the magneto field coil?
If possible I would like to know the dimension from the Ford drawing.
I need to layout the hole pattern for a HCCT spark ring.
Thanks for your help.
