I drive in the mountains of Western Montana and Idaho. I've also taken my T over the Beartooth Pass and every major pass in Montana and this is how I see it. Totally stock brakes are not that safe in these mountains, RM brakes are pretty good but they can get hot and fade if you're not careful and w...

I'm running 0.080" over bore on one of my T's. No problem except if you run a high compression head. I had to remove material from the head in every combustion chamber. Not a lot but with a no head gasket clearance check the pistons hit. BTW, I used aluminum flat top pistons.

I have four T's with American Collectors. Never had a claim, rates are low and customer service is good.

Re: Mill the Z-Head for higher C.R.?

Several makes of heads that have different combustion chambers and claim high compression. A Waukesha Recardo, Sherman and a Prus. The Prus is on the right in the combustion chamber comparison photo. As you can see the Sherman has very high compression. I was told not to run it on a stock lower.

Re: high compression head modification ?

I run a Prus head on two of my cars and have pulled nearly every major pass in Montana with them. They pull long grades and operate real good at high altitude. Pulled Beartooth Pass Montana at 10,947 feet real good. The thing to remember is the lower end.

I tore a speedster motor down last summer and all but two valves had zero clearance. It has adjustable lifters. Might be a good check.

Re: Speedster look alikes

My speedster has a T motor and a Ruckstell. The hot rod parts are a low head, distributor and a Simmons carb. It's very comfortable for long drives and moves right along.

Re: What do you use to heat your (freezing) shop for your T?

I use a 250,000 btu Modine propane heater and wood. I use the propane heater to take the edge off in the morning then wood. I use a mobile home size propane unit to keep my machine shop at 40* which is a good working temp. The coldest I've seen in the shop is +2*, that was a bit to cold to work in.

Re: What have you done with your T in November ?

After years of needing and wanting a car lift I finally found a used one and got it going last week. This is the first T I lifted with it, I'm getting ready to put a set of RM brakes on my Speedster. Happy camper for sure.
