Adjusting Rocky Mountain brakes

I have recently purchased a 1923 touring car which is fitted with a later large drum back axle and Rocky Mountain brakes which I have relined with new linings from Langs. What is the adjustment procedure? I have set the lining to drum clearance to .020" and expect to do this a few times as the linin...

Re: Cam bearings

Mike Bender is the man who made the jig, he has a number of videos on YouTube one of which shows him using it during the cam installation. This web page gives some good information and dimensions.

Re: Trip to the Henry Ford

We went in 2007 and again in August this year as part of our three week US tour, both times we stayed at The best Western Greenfield Inn. Hired a car from the airport, the hotel is easy to find and a short drive from the museum. We had four nights there, one day at the museum, one day at Greenfield ...

Re: Bad Timing!

But Mitch, if you had access to lathe, you could make your own.

This is the best solution I've seen, did you make this jig yourself for your lathe? If so, you could probably make a bit of cash making them, they'd be a hit I reckon!
If I had access to a lathe, I'd definitely buy one from you.

Re: What is this?

I'm glad that this question was asked and has Been answered, I found a lever that looks the same whilst clearing my late father's garage and thought it had a Ford look but was not quite the same as anything on my model T. The Fordson model F makes perfect sense as my Grandfather had one on his farm ...

Re: Transmission drum

Your drum looks very similar to mine, but mine has the replaceable shoes, i still need to find an earlier type of cover to plate and establish if the hole positions will fit or can be made to fit. When installed in my car a later cover plate was fitted which made the width of the drum too narrow, th...

Re: Brake band alignment

I have taken my transmission apart to try and solve the issue with my brake band, hopefully someone can advise me on what I have and the best way forward, I believe my drum is a wide drum which has been machined in to a narrow drum but then they have used the drive plate off the wide drum, can the n...

Don't tar all non members with the same brush, I live in the UK and a member of the Model T Ford Register of Great Britain. Although i rarely post I rely on this forum massively to keep my car on the road.

Re: Brake band alignment

Here are some photos of the inside of my transmission, I placed the band central to the brake drum and adjusted it so that the pedal stopped about an inch from the floor. I them pressed the pedal a few times and the band slowly moved rearwards with every press until it moved enough off the drum for ...

Re: Brake band alignment

I'm afraid that I don't have any pictures at the moment but I will post some tomorrow when I am back home, the car is LHD and the band is held securely between the fork ears at the top and is coming off the drum at the bottom (6 o'clock position)

Brake band alignment

I am having trouble setting up my brake band, after adjustment it keeps moving rearwards off the drum to the point it doesn't grip the drum and the pedal hits the floor. It worked fine until I removed the pedal to weld on an extension for the Rocky Mountain brakes that I'm fitting. Any ideas what is...
