Re: Glyptal paint.

I can understand using it to seal the porosity of early aluminum castings (to stop weeping). I can see it in high performance (high RPM) engines where you want to get the oil back down in the pan as quickly as possible so you don’t just pump all the oil real fast into the top end and run out of oil ...

I would also check the head for flatness before re-installing it. (block too, but heads are the worst offenders for warping.)

Re: Winter storage

That is the only reason I have ever heard. Long ago it was pretty normal to lay the car up for the winter, or if a family had two cars one would be laid up for the winter. The old (older rubber technology) bias ply tires would really take a set over the winter and it would take a couple of days for ...

Re: J c Taylor insurance

If you have a "something" only insurance, it is usually liability only, not collision only. Forget about the value of the car, you want to protect you life savings, your house and everything you own in case of a law suite. I have Liability only (and maybe some minimal level of required comprehensive...

Re: Returning Oil to the Ground

Most people here are old enough to remember the black stripe down the middle of every highway lane caused by the crankcase breather tube every car had. And on some highways you can still tell far ahead where a bump in the pavement will be, .... there is a dark spot on the pavement from the hanging ...

Re: outside of track measurement

It sounds like you have a workable plan. Keep in mind that moving a T backwards (on or off a trailer) the steering really likes to flop over to one side or the other, so you really need someone at the wheel. Also, as mentioned a bit, you don’t want to secure a T by the front axle. In addition to ben...

Transmission band linings,….. I suppose while I’m in there

I noticed a bit of scoring on the brake drum that I didn’t seem to remember. Not having any idea of the history of this car, and supposedly not run for 50 yrs before I bought it I figured I better take it off the road put new linings in. So I bought a set of Kevlar bands and decided to get the job d...

Re: lucas Tire Long Beach, Ca

I bought a set of tires from them last year and am pleased. They arrived very quickly. One had a slight cosmetic blemish and they replaced it. Then at my inquiry they sold me the blemished one at a good discount (and now I have a new spare.)

That looks like nickel to me, it looks like it has that “richer” tone, not the harsh brightness of chrome.
Your radiator shell should also be nickel, how does it compare to that? (Looks like a match from here.)

Re: What have you done on your Model T in May?

Not much here yet.
I do have to replace my transmission band linings (I realized the break band is starting to score the drum :( , so we’re off the road for now.).
Then I have a cracked skirt on the right front fender, so I’ll have to spot weld a doubler on the inside to stop any flexing.

Here is my 2924 “barn find”,… 60+ years untouched in a Connecticut valley tobacco barn. I have gotten it detracted and running. It is on my list for a complete disassembly, clean, paint & reassembly. It will never be a show car, but hoping for a nice driver. (Someday I'll figure out how to fix pictu...

Re: Adjusting headlights

As TRD’s post indicates, headlights are not adjusted with a plumb bob. That will tell you nothing. The headlights need to be aimed at a wall to see where the beam is focused.
You want to adjust the beam of light, not the physical head light assembly. Sometimes the two can be quite different.

Welcome and congratulations! These are certainly fun little cars. A couple of things that I didn't notice mentioned that you should know..... When strapping a T to a trailer it is better to strap around the front frame above the spring, and not the front axle or wheels. Strapping the axle or wheels ...

As to coating with “epoxy” as a clear finish, the vast majority of epoxies have no UV blocking additives, so it will degrade (turn yellow and beak down) in sunlight fairly quickly. Epoxy finishes require normal varnishing with an exterior varnish to provide the UV protection. Now I’m not suggesting ...

I agree with Allen and Art, ..... tighten until there is drag, then back off until just a smidge of play (top & bottom in and out). Any tighter causes heat and friction, and heat causes expansion, which will make it even tighter.

I have to say I would have concerns with that much lacquer thinner. That stuff is very flammable. Just a good shop vac with a brush attachment & maybe followed by some compressed air works fine.

It actually is not “cracked”, it is “checked” (from drying as pointed out). This will not measurably affect the strength, but I completely agree, it should not have been sent out.
