Re: Low gear speed

Update:

Seems to do better when not winding it out before shifting into high. Now I just have to solve the issue of it wanting to hesitate or bog down when taking off from a dead stop. Guess I get to play around with the band adjustment!

Re: Wet around the spark plug

Whew, I was thinking the worst. Going to get my Teflon tape and wrap the plug threads as soon as this football game is over.

Wet around the spark plug

Took the 22 out for some test driving today, working on my shifting. Stopped for a minute when I noticed a fuel smell that seemed pretty strong. Gas cap had a decent amount of gas on it, I assume from the little breather hole in it. But I also checked the engine and noticed that it was wet under the...

Re: Low gear speed

If you are 1/2 way through the intersection in low, you've spent too much time in low Get rolling in low (no more than 5-6 MPH) and shift smoothly through neutral to high (takes about 1 long second) while simultaneously closing and then reopening the throttle. Everything will take up easily then. I...

Low gear speed

Hi gang,
Next question about our 22 Touring. It doesn’t seem like it gets up to more than about 10 mph in low gear, and then wants to bog down when shifting to high. Could the band on low gear be the problem - either too tight or not tight enough ? Is this a two pronged issue? TIA.

I would guess that the "Mag" Terminal on your ignition switch is disconnected. Does your car still have the original type coils mounted? You can test the magneto to see if it is functional.
No coils; it has a distributor cap with rotor and points and what I assume is a six volt coil.

Re: Newbie with a magneto question

Go look and see if there is a wire connected to the top of the magneto post. If it is gone he disconnected it. If one is there trace it up to the firewall and see if it is connected there also. Yes, wire is attached to the magneto post and runs to the firewall. I don’t notice any breaks in the wire...

Newbie with a magneto question

Hi all, My wife and I inherited a 22 T Touring from her late father. I know that this car used to start/run on magneto. By the time we got it, it had been sitting for about three years, and her father had added a distributor. The car starts and runs on battery and electric starter, but I can’t get i...
