most likely what you have is a Kerwood, made for sears and many other outlets, the only way to find for sure is the casting numbers IF there are any,, i have owned several over the years, i have a picture taken of me 50 years ago at a show with one i saved, it ran a sausage grinder in a butcher shop...

THEY SURE EXPECT A LOT FROM THOSE COTTON BANDS, THEY WERE NEVER MENT TO STAND UP UNDER THOSE CONDITIONS, I WOULD GUESS JUGEING THOSE 8 PEOPLE TO HAVE A TOTAL WEIGHT SOMEWHERE AROUND 1100 POUNDS AND THE BODY ANOTHER 450--YUP THAT OLE GIRL EARNED ITS SUPPER OK.

not a word about vapor lock--i was having a situation very much the same, i found the fuel line was too close to the exhaust pipe, it don't take much with today's warmer temp's and gas that burns hotter to cause this problem, solution --separate the fuel line as far as you can from the exhaust.

reading your discription , and all other's thoughts of what could be the noise, i think norm',s makes the most sense, because connecting the fan assy makes the sound worse, the crank pulley as you know is the only thing connected with the fan, so i would check that crank pulley very close, good luck...

on the forth main in the hub there is a hole.i just finished replacing the hogs head and bands with detachable ears, i would guess it should be up to catch the oil,but not knowing , i better ask. did not notice this on the take apart. quite some job out of the car, must be a sun of a gun in the car....

THAT'S A GREAT IDEA, THE DUCK I THINK WOULD BE PERFECT, A FEW YEARS BACK I RESTORED A M-D- INTERNATIONAL TRACTOR, I PUT A MODEL OF A JOHN DEERE IN THE GLASS AIR FILTER, IT WAS MOST A YEAR BEFORE IT WAS FOUND, NOW I SEE THEM A LOT AT THE SHOWS. GOTTA HAVE SOME FUN ONCE IN A WHILE.
