Re: 7.5 degree timing advance
Appreciate all of the advice. I wasn't aware that bronze gears with the 7.5 advance were available. When I went looking for an advanced gear to buy, I only came across the nylon ones and to be honest, when shopping from a different country and different time zone, the vendor with the best website an...

Re: 7.5 degree timing advance
Ahaaa Thank You Dan. I knew there must've been a reason that people would pay for a new gear rather than just shift their existing gear by 1 tooth.

Re: 7.5 degree timing advance
My maths says 360 degrees divided by 48 teeth equals 7.5 degrees per tooth... am I missing something?
Pretty sure the existing cam is a standard Ford one taken from my father's collection of parts when this motor was built around 1990 or so.

7.5 degree timing advance
Hi All, I'm not a mechanic by any means but having been told that the 7.5 degree timing advance makes a big difference to Model T performance, thought I'd have a go at replacing the standard Ford timing gear with a nylon 7.5 degree advanced gear on our '24 RPU. Now that I've got the original timing ...

Re: The 1913 Model T won't start!
We had a similar problem of our '13 being difficult to start when first put together, and turned out to be adjustment of clutch/handbrake linkage/rods etc. I think it was trying to drive and brake at the same time. Perhaps with the back end lifted, put it in top gear instead of neutral and let it al...

Re: Ford Scripted Sears Cross Speedometer Inquiry
Hi Ryan, I'm no expert on speedos, but I do have the twin to your one. Russ's MTFCA speedo book lists it as 1914-15. I was originally hoping it would be right for my '13 when I picked it up, but being a speedster, I might still use it anyway. I have managed to find the special 35 tooth drive gear, b...

Fitted a new set of Blockley's to the front of the TT. First time I've done that on my own, but I must agree with others that the Blockley's do go on easy after being left in the sun for a while.

Re: New AC brakes available now?
In relation to brake fade with reproduction AC brakes, a number of us here in New Zealand are using Hillman Avenger cast brake drums, that have been turned down to appropriate size. You need to redrill the hub bolt holes, but fundamentally the drums are a good size to make an equivalent to a T drum ...

Re: Dating our TT
Thanks Steve and Kevin for your input. Sounds like it's probably correct at 1919 then. We know who the original owners were, and that it was sold new about 15 miles from where it currently lives in my shed, and was used locally as a mail/paper delivery truck along with general goods. The body was bu...

Dating our TT
We bought our TT a couple of years ago basically as it is. We know most of it's history including that it was restored in 1978 after being "rediscovered" following a long rest in a shed after spending time on a couple of farms. The person who restored it has since passed away, so we can't ask him an...

I don't know much about them, but was given these Hartford branded units, and assume they fit a T? 20240427_212653~2.jpg What I thought looked promising was that they don't sit over top of the drum like the Hasslers do in the top of the picture (or as per Dan's pictures) which I always thought would...

1912 rear hubs
We are currently trying to put a '12 rear end together, and finding that the wheels lock up tight when the wheel nuts are tightened, then I read in a recent Vintage Ford article about 1912 rear axles housings being 5/16 longer than later ones, and that if later hubs were used, they would need to be ...

Thanks for the responses. It does appear however, that we were misinformed originally about the manufacturers name, as I've just had a more careful look at the back and discovered something different... "Made by Auto Radiator Mfg Co", so that might make a difference. 20240404_213118~3.jpg Now I have...

A.R.M.Co Radiator
I have a question regarding the radiator on our TT. We bought the truck in it's current state a couple of years ago, and the guy that restored it in 1978 has since passed away so I can't ask him about it, but it is fitted with an unusual radiator marked A.R.M.Co which I've been told stands for Ameri...

Re: T trailering question
I'm jealous of people with enclosed trailers, but can't justify the cost. Having said that, I've never had a problem with our RPU on our open trailer. I don't have a top boot, so button up the side curtains instead to prevent the top being a parachute. Our speed limit for towing is 90kmh (about 55mp...

I personaly know of 4 Truefire systems in New Zealand (my dad's is one of them). One has since been removed from the car, but the other three cars go very well. However, all 4 have needed coils replaced at least once (definitely a weak point). I have repaired two of the units myself, and for us in N...

Re: Different needle & seat flows, Have you ever timed your flow?
Hi Kevin, I'm also surprised that removing the inline filter made so little difference. I don't remember the flow figures, but we decided once that it would be a good idea to fit inline filters to a couple of our T's, and created starvation issues. Cars that used to climb hills ok, suddenly starved ...

Does anyone else use a clamping system like this? Not sure where it originates from as it was borrowed from a since deceased friend, but seems to work well enough and balanced ok when clamped around number 3 cylinder, but have only used it with firewall removed so could do a straight lift/lower.

I have used Inkscape to design a few. Free download. I normally find that I need to google things like how to align the text with a curve as I forget again before I do the next one, but the information is all out there. Might be worth a look.

Re: What did you do to your Model T in November?
We took a T and a TT to the local Child Cancer Christmas Party, to give the kids rides around the rugby field.
The good thing about the TT is that it's slow enough to idle around the field in top gear, and the local built cab is wide enough that I could slide sideways and let the kids "drive".

First time posting here..
Is ours possibly the earliest Christmas parade anywhere? I guess we should be a little ahead of the rest of the world here in New Zealand.
