I disassembled the axle today and inside were the two large springs. They were between the inner and outer bearing and the axle shafts passed through them. I do not see these springs on any diagrams and don't recall reading about them. I also can't find a reference to them online. Anyone have insigh...

I just meant that along the length of the bearing surfaces the measurement varied by a few thousandths from 1.051 to 1.060. I have a screen. Drums appear smooth and uncracked. No bluing. I assume the brake band sees the most wear, so maybe the fact that it's tighter than the other two is normal. I understand that this is a "how heavy is a rock" type question, but does the brake band look to be at the end of it's life? Fi...

Transmission Bands - When to Replace?

I drove my '19 around town last Saturday and gradually the foot brake became less and less effective. By the time I pulled in the garage, the pedal would go to the floor with basically no braking. Because it worked well at the start of the 10 mile drive, I was expecting a big oily fuzzball inside th...

My 1919 has a front end wobble. It was really bad when I first got the car, but I serviced the front axle pieces and adjusted the toe, which helped a lot. I fired up my '19 for the first time since last fall and though started, it ran poorly. In fact, it barely made it around the block. I had to work the choke a lot to keep it running. I should also say that this car (and Model Ts in general) is unfamiliar to me. I assume it is old babbitt. The pieces are mostly small crumbly bits. As seem in the pic, there are some larger pieces with a radius that appear to be a thrust surface on the sides of the rod.
