Re: air-friction carb
well, i suppose it could be the rear end. i'm not sure what ratio they were stock. being a hack it is probably i little heavier than a car. the timer is a stock timer, plugs are origonal ward-riverside plugs that are nearly identicle to the champion x's. I can't remember what gap i set them at. real...

Re: air-friction carb
I'm not sure how much it weighs, stock sized tires. but, i'm planning on putting a scat crank in it at some point. I haven't even had it out much this year. I'm in the middle of restoring a 53' f100 and it's kinda taking all my time as i'm trying to get it ready by the end of the school year for my ...

Re: air-friction carb
It's a depot hack. stock cam. stock rear end. I mean it's gutless when it shifts into high gear. like the little engine that could (not). actually what it acts like is the rear end is geared too high. but swapped the old one out with this one that i overhauled and it made no difference. acts the sam...

Re: air-friction carb
i actually removed mine just because other than it being easier to start, there was no real benefit. and you can't adjust the mixture on the fly like you can on an NH. It's supposed to be a set it and forget it. But really to get it to run like you want, if it's cold you have to feather the choke. o...

Re: air-friction carb
Thought I would give an update, I got the carb on and adjusted it. It definitely has made a difference. For one, when you start it cold just a brief choke and it instantly fires up and absolutely no sputtering until it's warm enough to smooth out. Just a smooth idle out of the gate. It's never done ...

Re: air-friction carb
I've grown up around my grandfathers T. We put a scat crank in his a few years back and the difference that made in power just from all that extra mass was pretty unbelievable. I guess I took it for granted. The hills are steep enough here that i had to actually put an electric fuel pump on mine bec...

Re: air-friction carb
The nh is completely stock, I have three of them and they all behave the same way. What made me think to change it is I'm working on a speedster and I have dual carbs on it and it does not lack in power at all, and that engine is stock internally. But you've given me some hope that I'm on the right ...

Re: air-friction carb
Ah yes, that's what I was looking for, thanks! And Scott, that's about where I thought I was gonna end up. Just trial and error. Basically I bought this carb because, well I can't afford a Stromberg, and because the old nh is just so crude and we have a lot of hill where I live and I was hoping some...

air-friction carb
Does anyone in here know how to adjust one of these? I've been scouring the web on these things and have found a bunch of old adverts for them but i can't find a manual or anything about where the adjustments are. the mixture screw seem pretty obvious, but is it a set it and forget thing because the...

Re: Dual carb?
had a chance to put the new carbs on. world of difference and it runs with the crossover tube on it now. much more tunable. I have to get my radiator fixed so i can run it long enough to tune it. that's another issue. its a honeycomb rad from the 1910's and no one around here seems to know how to fi...

Re: Dual carb?
Scott, I understand what you are saying. I was just trying to keep it period correct looking, I may forgo that with the NH's for reasons you were stating. they are just very crude carburetors. I'll say more about this further in. Yes, it screams at higher RPMs, sounds great. But lower rpms its prett...

Re: Dual carb?
my other issue is i have that tubed header on there which is kind of a pain to work around. speedy, yours is probably ideal becasue you can use the existing clamps to hold the exhaust on. when i was thinking about this i originally thought about just using a model a exhaust manifold. then i thought,...

Re: Dual carb?
ha. yes that would look really cool. I'll try and make some of those changes to see if i can fine tune it a bit more. It actually runs surprisingly well without the crossover. I'm like you, I thought it should be there as well. So i'll try to enlarge it and see if it makes a difference. problem is, ...

Re: Dual carb?
Wow, didn't think i'd revive this old thread that much! Thanks for all the photos and comments. speedy, you are on the mark about the velocity. It dawned on me that I may have been losing vacume from that crossover pulling from the other intake and I went out there, removed it and it, plugged the po...

Re: Dual carb?
I know this thread is old but I though I'd post my setup on here too. finding info on dual carb setups is a bit challenging and finding pictures is even harder. Mine is stock except the custom header and plate. I cut off a couple flanges off some intakes i had laying around and welded them to the pl...
