Re: Building a magnet charger, looking for information
Magneto charging with rear earth magnets, I've used this for tractors and Hit and Miss magnetos and it works quite well, assume it would work for a T magnet. The author claims "The bare bones rare earth charger, as shown in Figures 5, 6 and 7, produced a field of 1110mT (1.11 Tesla), easily outperf...

Magneto contact
Good afternoon , I was just finishing up the last of the wiring and then ,, woops . Appears the contact had been previously epoxied . That would explain the stakon connector . Il order a new magneto tower but I’m unsure of how to determine if the contactor is the correct height . If not long enough ...

Stumble point 1 crossed !
Thank you folks for all the help I’ve been receiving in this forum. I’m really glad that I joined, there is a wealth of information here. I was able to move far enough ahead to understand how most of the systems work and finally be able to check if it runs With that done I can move ahead on my order...

Re: Which timer should I keep ?
New Day - Tip Top Timers (Spokane Valley, WA) makes excellent replacement brushes although they cost a bit more than those from the vendors. If you want to use the original brush (assuming it's not too worn) make sure the spring has enough tension. The roll pin should be at the top of the slot in t...

Which timer should I keep ?
Good afternoon , In a box of things with my TT I had two timers . Both appear that they would work but is one better than the other ? I’m not sure which is on my truck currently , but I’ll be pulling it off This afternoon before I finish adjusting the timing I had previously poster about . Thanks , ...

Holley float info
Good morning, I’ll just preface this with I’ve already ordered a needle and seat. Unfortunately, there is no amount of lapping or cleaning that would provide a fuel, tight seal for my existing needle and seat, and I would actually like to put fuel in the bowl to start this engine by the end of next ...

Re: Commutator timing help required
I have 7 T's. The position of the lever at the quadrant varies from car to car. What is obvious is the amount of travel at the quadrant more than adequately covers the range of adjustment needed to operate a T at it's optimum. So, as long as you can get the amount of lever adjustment required to op...

Re: Commutator timing help required
The simplest method is what John Regan taught me via email...called the "9:30-3:30" method. Being the position of your crank pin, with the #1 piston on compression. You can determine that by simply slowly cranking the engine by hand with your thumb over the spark plug hole. Steve Jelf put out a vid...

Re: Commutator timing help required
Vince, Do Not use the 2.5 measurement unless you know for sure you have a Ford timer and Ford roller. All timers are not the same. Following the procedures already described by others will set any timer correctly. Thanks for the heads up . I found this measure erroneous as well . If I had used it I...

Re: Commutator timing help required
Yes most def it was way too far retarded . I’ve had many many years experience with hand cranks on antique engines and know those dangers of advanced spark on start up . So , using the 2.5” method looks def better than it was , but still quite retarded . I may leave it there ,,and bend the arm to fi...

Commutator timing help required
It occurred to me while in a conversation with another gentleman that the lever when at full up position is far too retarded to likely even start the engine . I’ve rarely had much luck getting an engine to fire much past the piston heading too far on its post compression downstroke . And if it was ,...

Re: Commutator/timer continuity
Hello , Pulled the coils , yep exactly as mkossor said . Continuity back through the primary windings . Re: Commutator/timer continuity
Remove all coils from the coil box then repeat the timer continuity measurements. There should be no connectivity between timer terminals then. With the coils installed in the coil box and sharing a common power connection, there will be continuity between each timer segment via respective coil pri...

"Split rims" are a tricky subject. They are complicated in that there is so much to know and be aware of, serious safety issues, and even deadly consequences. Yet, once getting a bit familiar with them, they are simple in concept, and for the most part, easy to work with. In the first place, there ...

Sorry folks , more questions ( I’m a new owner ) and I know many of you have the answers . Looking at either the 600x20 or the 650x 20 tires . Re: Locking ring wheel help
That rim spreader is for “split” rims, yours are “lock ring” rims. Two very different methods of securing “straight sided” tires prior to the “drop center” era. Let the air out and use a few C clamps to compress the tire away from the lock ring. The tire bead shape retains the lock ring, so once th...

Re: Locking ring wheel help
Vince, if you want to do all the work yourself, that is admirable. After you have the rim and wheel in good shape, and a new tire to install. you might want to put it all together, and then take it to a place that does semi-truck tires, and ask them to put it in their cage to inflate it. Tire worke...
