Re: Starting Problem

Thanks Steve. I pulled off the battery to switch cable and saw that some of the insulation is worn off and that it has been shorting against the frame. I bought the car in 1989 so it has probably been doing this for a long time. I reinstalled it and hooked up my heavy-duty jumper cables to it and a ...

Starting Problem

My 6-volt, group 1 battery won’t crank my ’27 touring. After an overnight charge, the battery measures 6.25 volts and it passes a load test. When I jump start it with a 12-volt battery, it starts right up. When running, the ammeter registers like it always has. I’m a bit suspicious of the foot opera...

Re: Battery Lifting / Removal Methods

You need to be careful when buying a battery post strap for a 6-volt battery. Some have fittings that are too small for the positive post. Don't ask how I know.

Re: willie cordes

Willie Cordes was a longtime member of the Space City T’s. My wife and I have known him since the 1990’s. We can't count how many times he and his boys have helped us out with Model T issues. When Willie gave a tour, it was always fun and exciting. Gay Nell has been a valued friend and supporter of ...

'27 Radiator Apron

I’m thinking of buying a new radiator apron for my ’27 Touring. The old apron has no crank thimble in it and no holes for a trim strip. It rattles like crazy. Both the Lang’s and Schneider’s catalogs mention that a hole must be drilled in the new apron, but I’m confused about where to drill it and d...

Re: Battery Problem

Thanks for your replies but I think that I have figured out the problem. The battery is about 7 months old. The ammeter showed charging at 3-amps before and after the incident. All the battery and ground connections are good. It has a diode type cutout. The battery hold-down clamp near the positive ...

Battery Problem

Late yesterday afternoon, four of us went for a ride in my ’27 Touring. After about 20 miles, we drove into a COE park to see the numerous deer there. I stopped at the gate and as the gate keeper was interested in the car, we started talking. I shut down the engine. It was running on mag. When I tri...

OT- Ethanol-Free Gas Question

Yesterday I bought 5 gallons of 93 octane, e-free gas for use in my small gas engines. I bought it at an old rural gas station/ice house. I find that this fuel has hardly any smell. Should this be of concern to me or is this normal for e-free fuel? I might also use it my Model T's.

Re: Powder coating rims

I had all 5 of the wheels powder coated on my ’27 Touring around 20 years ago. These are probably the ones that came on the car when it was new. The only problem that I had was with the rear wheels. After mounting those wheels, I found them very difficult to remove. To fix this, I had to sand some o...

Re: Steering Stabilizers

In the late 1980’s/early 1990’s, I was frequently experiencing the death wobble in my 1927 Touring. With the assistance and advice of man who was much more experienced than I was, I rebuilt everything in the front end. The car handled better but the death wobble continued. One day I noticed that the...

Re: What is the formula for homemade penetrating oil?

Some years ago, we hired a plumber to replace the shower head in our 65 year old house. He worked for a long time trying to get everything loose. Finally, he said he would need to break out the tile in order to get it out. He was using some kind of spray solvent. I asked him to wait while I mixed up...

Re: My first exposure to a Model T

My father had a farmer friend in New Jersey back in the 1930's and 40's. He had a dilapidated Model T roadster, where his chickens roosted, parked outside. I never thought that this car would run. One day he hitched a wagon to it, filled it with live piglets in burlap bags (tow sacks) and hauled the...
