Re: 1918 - 1927 Starter Troubleshooting and Rebuild

Cheers Mate. Thanks for the quick response! I just found that on Langs and ordered it. I will also replace the brushes since I have this open. Any concerns of only replacing the brushes and this bushing (and the front and back cork gaskets (which was the initial intent of me doing this winter projec...

1918 - 1927 Starter Troubleshooting and Rebuild

Hey team, I'm stuck again :). For those that dont know, i am the 3rd generation owner of a 1926 Model T. In 1961, my grandpa bought it from the son of the original owner. I inherited this 26 T Touring in October and have been learning a lot. My Dad told me that when he dies that this forum is the be...

Re: Trying to remove bendix spring holder

Well, good news is I found an article abnout testing the magneto. The not states the best is to have under 1 ohm of resistance. The higher the number (above 1ohm) the worse the situation....mine tests between .25 and .3 (YIPEE)... Now, should I clean that black or just count my blessings and put thi...

Re: Trying to remove bendix spring holder

Got it off and things seem well….EXCEPT…

Is there a way to test the windings in the magneto?
Should this be all black or all copper?
Does it look bad to you guys?

Trying to remove bendix spring holder

1926 T touring. I have watched Mitch Taylor’s YouTube of replacing starter and searched similar posts here….but all missing the key piece….how to remove that spring holder after removing the lock nut? In this video, between 14:35 and 14:40. It comes out a small bit, but afraid to force anything… Any...

Is it common to have that significant charging near the tail pipe?

Re: What is on the end of the muffler?

That is an exhaust deflector, It is out of place as it should be directly over the muffler outlet. It is used to deflect the exhaust downward towards the ground and away from the rear axle and under-body. As you can see, it's effectiveness is sometimes less than desired. Thanks for the quick respon...

Re: 1926 muffler not complete

I have a 26 touring that has a very similar muffler. There is an extra piece that does not seem to be in the pics above, anyone know what this is? It rotates. When should I rotate it?

What is on the end of the muffler?

I recently inherited a 1926 model T that has been in my family (grandpa and father) since 1961. I knew my dad put a new exhaust pipe on it a decade or more ago. Tonight I noticed something on the very end of the muffler. What is it? It rotates. Is there a time or reason to rotate it? To where? When?...

Re: Egypt Garage e-lights

Where can one buy these wireless turn signals? My dad bought a set from http://www.theegyptgarage.com/some time between 2002 and 2012. The system board seems to have fried. I would love to know how or where to find another set…

Re: Reverse Polarity - What is the damage

Thanks for this Matt, I found it very interesting. As a summary - in your testing - can one of the 6V cutouts be adjusted to make it a 12v operation? Im not sure about that. I dont think the 1926 generator gets above 7 or 8 volts...but not sure. Also, I do suspect you could "bend" the two areas in ...

Re: Reverse Polarity - What is the damage

Matt Now you can teach the rest of us how to adjust a cutout. Maybe even make a video for youtube. This is the video that I learned from. He has two or three, but this one is the main one that I used. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFGJnSRRPYA&t=210s This is the bench power supply that I got from ...

Re: Reverse Polarity - What is the damage

TEAM UPDATE! Thank you to all that pitched in with ideas! I have identified the problem, learned about everything there is to learn about the electrical system of the Model T, and FIXED THE PROBLEM. I took the cut-out off the car and on to the bench. Using a variable DC power supply found that the c...

Re: Reverse Polarity - What is the damage

I suppose, I should confirm with all of you. My assumption is the negative battery post is what should be connected directly to the chasis and the positive is what runs to the starter switch and other forward items to the car. I will look for 1926 touring wire diagrams shortly, but thought good to v...

Looking for old posts

My dad used to post a bit, maybe a lot - not sure. I thought his handle/nicname was S561. He had a few email addresses over the past 10 - 15 years. Is there an easy way to find his posts? Dave Ireland, David Ireland, daveireland26@gmail.com, and daveireland@mchsi.com are the ways that I assume he wo...

Reverse Polarity - What is the damage

HELLO - This is my first post! Hello everyone, Before diving into my questions, I wanted to share something personal in case any of you knew my dad, Dave Ireland. I believe he was known here as S561. Sadly, he passed away on September 17th after a courageous 5+ year battle with cancer. He often spok...
