Re: 1907 - 1909 Ford Model T prototype, courtesy of Trent B.

Question for Trent: On the prototype with 3 pedals and 2 levers, was the middle pedal and the reverse lever linked to accomplish the same reverse gear operation? Or something else? I thought I heard something said about a 2nd gear? If so was there 4 bands in that prototype transmission? Than...

Re: WARNING New Clincher Tire Blows Off Rim!!

Wow Gene! :o

I keep thinking about how you and I were mounting my new Excelsior tires a while ago!

What was the condition of the tire after the boom? Was it shredded or intact?

Re: Rebate on Firestone tires

I purchased a set of Excelsiors from Coker back in May that had the $60 rebate also.

Just got my rebate check last week!

Prepare to wait...........................a long time for that cash.

Lotion or conditioner for touring top?

With some help from Gene C. we recently fixed one of the pivot points on my "one-man-top" of my 1924 touring so I can now safely lower it. The last time I lowered it was shortly after I purchased it about 15 years ago (then the rivet gave way on the pivot point). It was installed about 20 years ago ...

Re: Changing clincher tires with flaps

Some more on flaps. They go in easier when new. I recently had to change one that had been in the car for years. They get a little tempermental after they've gotten hard. Larry, I think you hit the nail on the head! My flaps were in the tires for almost 10 years and developed quite a "set" in shape...

Re: Changing clincher tires with flaps

Well, mission accomplished with help from Gene; thanks a lot Gene!! :D We removed and installed the tires with the rims on the floor. Stuffed the tube in the tire partly inflated after notching the beads for the stems, then levered both sides unto the rim together with tire spoons, using 4 hands and...

Re: Changing clincher tires with flaps

Well, I finally got one (1) tire disassembled from the rim and the tube and flap out after half a day's work!! Took another half day to attempt to mount the new tire and was not successful. No way was the assembled unit of tire, flap and tube going to go over that rim lip! After taking a brea...

Re: Changing clincher tires with flaps

Thanks! Yes, Dave at Chaffin's did put in the heavy duty flaps back 10 years ago. I was thinking of using a little diluted Murphy's Oil Soap to install.

How about a step by step for taking the clincher tires with flaps off the rims?

Changing clincher tires with flaps

I just purchased a set of new Excelsior 30 x 3 1/2 clincher tires from Coker to replace my worn out 10 year old tires. The previous set were also Excelsiors; they were installed for me with flaps back then so I am unfamiliar with the process. I have done Model A tire installs before, so I am familia...

Re: Loss in top end power

Thanks Adam, I usually run MMO in the gas at each fill up. In fact, I purposefully did NOT add MMO for this last tankful, in case the MMO was diluting the gas too much for the hill  . I have never added MMO in the oil for fear that the 5W-30 that I use would get too slick for the bands :geek: ...

Re: Loss in top end power

No fuel issues found. Pulled & cleaned the plugs--very sooty and dirty! Compression is relatively low ~45-45-35-35. New rings & valves are probably overdue.

Went to fill up fuel and pulled the hill, no problem!

Problem is......the extra passenger was my wife!

Re: Loss in top end power

No problem with this particular hill before, only had an additional passenger, so not a lot of added load. The problem seems to have been getting up enough speed to get a jump start on the long hill. This hill is near my house so it is not new and I have always been able to get a good running start ...

Loss in top end power

What would be the most likely suspected problem in a T that recently had a noticeable loss in top end power under load going up hills? This was not previously a problem. Stock setup, no fuel filters, Holley NH carb. The engine sounds good and smooth but simply seems to slow down at top end. D...
