Here is a link to a thread from Herm. Shows how he did a transmission. Look down at how to fix your problem.

Re: A Very Hot Generator
Sounds like the cutout has gone South and you may have let the factory smoke out of generator. If you haven’t let out it will soon get out on its own.
Better fix it before it gets out. Dan

Re: High volume outside oil line
This is a 3/8” line version. Engine was supposed rebuilt all way through before it was sold.
But it is a two holer engine. Maybe the guides are leaking too much.

Re: High volume outside oil line
Engine was rebuilt before I got the car. Maybe 5000 miles on it now. I don’t know who did the engine. But everything looked good when it was open for transmission repair. Cracked drum. I have a needle valve to reduce flow.
Also thinking about 20w50 oil might help.
Found this oil.

High volume outside oil line
I installed an outside HV oil line on my 16 when I had to replace a cracked drum. Fast forward cranked it up and I got smoking engine. Was not before. Anyone one seen this? I removed the line and plugged the fittings, smoke gone. I plan to install a needle valve to reduce flow. Any input? Dan

Re: Question about diff carriers?
The reason for my question is it is getting harder to find carriers with out the usual wear groove. I have looked an about a dozen, all with different degrees of wear. Some are junk but others? As long as the wear is stopped from getting worse, you should be able to use the carrier. On the other sid...

John: As far as removing the bushing, I don’t think the finish on the bore for the bushing would work as is.
By the time you clean up the bore, it may be too big.
Only way to tell is do it, but I have too many new ones to do that.
Anyone know when they changed the carrier, removed the bushing? Dan

Question about diff carriers?
Looking at carriers I have. Most have grooves where the thrust plates have dropped down and worn a place. What does that hurt in the long run? I know why it happened, only one pin holding the plate. See red circle in picture. What if you added a second pin across from it to hold th plate from more r...

Early Diff carriers
Found a rear end carrier with bronze bushings where the axle gears ride. Other than being able to replace these bushings when they wear out. What other advantages are there to the early ones. I know Ford probably stopped using them for cost.
Any input? Thanks Dan

4th main ?
Yesterday I was pouring about a dozen 4th mains to bore out. I came across about 3 that had no oil hole in them. Were these early ones before Ford found out they needed the oil hole?
