Re: Speedster project, another problem, update
I had a simular thing happen to a newly rebult engine. I found that the rear cam bearing was too tight and caused the engine to grind to a halt after it warmed up a little. DON"T rev the engine beyond a low idle until you find the problem. If it is the rear cam bearing, all of the engine torque is r...

This is the result of an auxiliary transmissio going into neutral going up a hill. This car had no rear (auxiliary) brakes and rolled down the hill backward until it overturned in the ditch on the left side of the road. I was about 3 cars behind him. It was a beautiful car! I used 1/2 inch #8 bolts and nuts. I did this a long time ago and should have used bolts at least 1/2 inch longer. I did get 3 turns on the nuts though and all has been well for at least 10 years. There are nuts below the plate holding the front main. (I hope the picture opens) 100_6226 2.jpeg.zip

Re: What oil do you use for your Model T?
I have inserted mains and a drilled block for oil pressure to the mains. 30 weight is the only oil that will maintain oil pressure. With 10-30 the oil pressure drops way down after just a few miles. There was no __-__ oil in Henery's day. Use whatever floats your boat. When a kid (70+ years ago) I u...

I just went through the same thing and new spark plugs did the trick. (I now have a rebuilt carb, and a new timer but that didn't fix it). KISS start with the simple things first. Unless you are using X plugs, spark plugs are the cheapest and easiest thing to check. Coils have to be good too.

Weak battery + hi amp starter= no juice for coils. Try cranking on BAT
Make sure the coils buzz... in the correct order... left lever up
Carb adj to 1 to 1/4. Gas in tank.

Chicago, Detroit and a few other decaying areas are all run by the same system as California. Tax on gas went up almost $.20 a gallon since our new Governer took over. My blood pressure wants to be a problem so I won't go on. I drove my Model T on better dirt roads in the 30's than I drive on in Sac...

Hi Frank, The pump pushes the oil through a filter but I still change oil often. I own an auto repair business and pump oil from 55 drums . I special order 30 weight in quarts for the T's.

Re: Could it be the Oil ?!
FWIW, my Fordor has an "A" crank with inserted main bearings and a drilled block with an engine driven oil pump. I can't maintain oil pressure with 10-30 oil. I have to run 30 to keep the pressure up. I also have an electric oil pump to get the pressure up to 40psi before I start the engine. I run 3...

With the commutator out and wires removed, does it still buzz? I just fixed he same problem with my Anderson timer and it did boil down to #1 contact on the timer (grounding on the case). BTW, just past TDC on compresson stroke.

Re: Is this 18% grade too steep for a Model T to descend down?
IMHO, a Model T on an 18% grade without brakes, or other transmission function, will overtake the T in front of him is less than 30 seconds. What is the 30 seconds supposed to be used for? In my opinion that beautiful stretch will be hazerdous for at least one of the T's on the tour and 1 is too many.

This beautiful Touring hit neutral when shifting an aux transmission when climbing a fairly sreep grade. The car did not have aux. brakes and overturned as it went off the highway near the bottom of the hill at high speed. The occupants were hurt.

What about timing?? Did U install the timing gear to the correct match?
Basic timing:
Spark lever up, #1 cylendar just past top dead center on the compression stroke (remove #1 plug and with a wire feel the piston go just past TDC ) The #1 coil should start to buzz. (Fireing order:1,2,4,3)

Check to see if your generator charge is gettin to the battery ussing a volt/ohlm meter. Check the cable and the battery post. As mentioned, the problem could be corrosion between the battery post and the cable connectors.
