Gerald- be sure to get to the bottom of this issue because OE Ford drums were not designed to be used with something unforgiving like kevlar. You could end up with damaged or destroyed drums....

The generator on a stock Model T, as originally designed, does not affect nor is it involved in the engine starting process. The generator's output is irrelevant to operating the starter motor.

Original Model T valves are at a 45 degree angle which means the seats get cut at 44 or 44.5 degrees. Hope this helps!

Ralphed nailed it. As long as it is apart- restore the magneto. Doesn't mean you have to use it but make it functional and it will add value to your car. Besides, Ts run the best on mag!

Lisa- if your current brake set up is locking up the rear wheels, a set of aftermarket brakes isn't going to help you. What is it that you want to accomplish?
I would advise learning how to slow down and stop a Model T in the way it was designed and drive it accordingly.

Terry, keep in mind that it makes absolutely no difference how much oil is splashed by slingers because it doesn't change the capacity of the the oil funnel or a mag post oil line which is all controlled by gravity.

So, it appears some folks are using 8 volt batteries to compensate for worn out parts and bad wiring. Hopefully the folks who are new to the hobby don't buy into this.

John, you said "between the block and pan toward the left rear". Does your car have a starter? I had worn out bearing on a starter that leaked oil all over the place. I also fixed a friend's 26 sedan with a missing lower starter mounting screw that leaked tremendous amounts of oil!

I agree with you- kevlar can cause wear or damage and there are plenty of posts to document its negative affects. It would be pretty impressive If the condition of the OP's drum is due to prolonged wear- one tough drum!

My old 6 volt starter has given me approximately 6,000 miles of reliable service and works flawlessly regardless of temperature. I must be lucky.
