???? I thought these engines had "Frost Plugs".

Unless I missed it the question was "how much damage...…" There were a lot of answers on installing the pin but none that I found on how much damage would be caused if the pin came loose.

Threaded rod will give you the same results as a puller. To help prevent bending of the flange use in all holes. best to use a hydraulic press. Heat will work if you are comfortable with it.
