I had to replace a worn large timing gear today. As usual, the original nut was butchered and pitted around the sea surface.
This tool is T2333, camshaft gear nut wrench.
It is useless as is. The crank in the handle guarantees it will crank off the nut, butchering it on the way.
I made a keeper of sorts. The large washer goes over the nut, the...
Last post
It's not the fit of the wrench that is the problem. It is the fact that the load applied when tightening the nut is not in line with the nut that causes the wrench to twist off the flats. The better flywheel cap screw wrenches have long handles and three right angle bends to clear the flywheel magnets and bring the handle end back in line with the...

Wife loves antique shopping, we were at a local place this past weekend and I noticed a shelf of old oil cans (pictured) for sale.. None stamped with Ford, but numerous Eagle brand.
I picked up these three for $20 to have in the shop.
Kind of stirs the imagination as to what else existed in the shop/garage these came from......

Collecting Ford oil cans is quite an obsession, as I had stated there are about 20-21 cans in my collection . Of course there are repeats, but I'm still searching for the elusive British can, it has a considerably smaller lid neck. Bit different than our American breed, only saw a picture of one once. I never checked the archives to see when the stanchion design changed. I suspect the early style was prone to cracking and the design changed.
That said, I have the later stanchions on my early ‘26. I can live with the improved design and most people don’t know the difference.

If you move the seat back, will this interfere with access to the battery? Also, if you have strong arms, you can use a steering wheel from an earlier year which is smaller in diameter and would allow more room for the legs for pedal operation.

Last post
If you are just talking about the glass swinging, the lower glass on the Canadian cars swung but the windshield post were not hinged like the 15-22 cars. Chevrolet used a very similar design windshield post, their lower glass also swung. Then there could have been windshield/posts that were offered aftermarket where the top half folded down.

When Stan Howe passed away several years ago, he had a lot of carburetors in various states of repair with, I heard, parts all over his shop. Was everyone who had carburetors in his shop for repairs at the time of his passing, able to retrieve their carburetors? I understand he had a lot of rare carburetors of MTFCA members who, at the time,...

Herb, I agree. Thanks for the heads up. I’ve seen the Model K Roadster photo before, and I think it was a 1908 or 09 race in Kansas City, but I’ll have to check. My guess is the Model N is a 1907 or 08, judging by the sidelamps and radiator. I believe the car in the other end of the race start is an Oldsmobile.

The top fender brackets with which I am familiar are left and right. The mounting holes in the fenders may be the same pattern, but one of the brackets would need to be rotated to align with the holes, putting the mounting slot either in front or behind the frame iron.

Most trash transfer stations around here have drive-up scales for weighing bulky waste. If you have one in your town they may help you out if you drive the packed crate there and get a weight, and then return for a weight of the empty truck.

Keith, I think I can make out a box pinstripping on the rear seat bottom. It's looks faint but there? It does appear to have a break where the lower rear seat hinge is though? Pretty clear that the hood is not boxed on the top section.

Hi Lucas,
Levers that will not stay in place can be cured with a lever brake. Easy to make, I use a hard wood, drill the steering shaft hole larger than the
shaft & the lever hole smaller than the rods. Drill the bolt holes & then cut in half with a band or hack saw. I like the wing nuts because you
don't need a wrench to make quick adjustments....

As John states, it is an easy conversion if you just fit a whole big drum rear axle assembly. All the different bits will be taken care of. The big benefit is the much improved emergency brake.

Hi all.
I have decided that I am going to install a set of disc brakes on my 22 touring. I've decided that being able to stop better in my mind is better than going 100% original. I know that this can be a controversial topic, like alternators, oil and waterpumps, but it's not invasive to the car, and can be removed if desired.
I am wondering,...
Last post
Don’t get too worked up over disc brakes, they’re great! If you drive conservatively you’ll only notice that you stop with a gentle pressure on the brake pedal, similar to brakes in a modern car. I’ve briefly locked my brakes twice in thousands of miles of driving, both times on loose surfaces. Keep your tires inflated and they’ll be fine.
Since...

I’d like to correct this without having to remove it and impact the...

My '26 had same issue but not as severe. I simply made a tapered shim to place between H/L mounting foot and fender. It took a lot of experimenting to get the correct taper and direction. For appearance I made a similar gasket for the opposite side. Quite pleased with the results. My car has an aftermarket (I believe) tie bar from fender to fender...

I have a 1918 Roadster that I’m trying to get back together. I have new seat springs for it but the car is missing the wood that supports the seat back. Can anybody help provide me with the info I need to build the seat back wood support and details on how the seat back mounts to the body and/or wood support. Also, does the seat back just sit...

I have another question that I have not been able to find online or on this forum and it is regarding the top irons, not to be confused with the bows. The short irons that were in my 1918 Roadster connected the body at the tackstrip to the wood on the B pillar and did not connect to the seat frame area like others I have seen. Which irons are...

I have a wide variety of questions, from steering to something electrical, to missing parts, to operation. I will start with steering, my gears are actually fine, the steering is fine, there is just one linkage looking thing that has all the play in my steering system, its this part where the column rotates a bar which moves the other bars that...

I should have titled this thread differently. Rather than calling the rear window on a 12 touring a tombstone the window is 8 sided I believe in the 12.
Can someone provide measurements?

How to load a snowmobile

I was using an open landscape trailer to haul my snowmobile with the skis on and had a rough time getting up on. I am also soon going to buy a new enclosed trailer. What do you snowmobile guys to for traction when loading and also for protection of the ramp and floor. I am guessing old conveyor belt or horse stall mats but need ideas. Thanks
Last post
Ken That is the type of ski I have. I guess I am being lazy not hauling a floor jack and changing out wheels for skis. I have it set up like you, just remove king pin etc. The time I save traveling with skis is lost trying to load. Just trying not to have to do the switch over in the cold, but maybe that's just the way it is.

What is on the end of the muffler?

I recently inherited a 1926 model T that has been in my family (grandpa and father) since 1961. I knew my dad put a new exhaust pipe on it a decade or more ago. Tonight I noticed something on the very end of the muffler. What is it? It rotates. Is there a time or reason to rotate it? To where? When? What is this thing called? My google-foo not...
Last post
Looking through the exhaust outlet, it looks like the muffler middle shell is out of place. It looks like when the muffler was assembled, the middle shell shifted out of place as the end plate was being tightened. It should be centered on the end flange inside the outer housing. If the middle shell is out of place, it most likely does not function...

I play with rebuilding coils just for the fun of it and occasionally find an anomaly that I can't understand. I have accumulated a number of test apparatus and enjoy comparing the results on them when done with a coil. I recently did a coil and tested it on an ecct, a strobospark, a manual hcct and a motor driven hcct. The results were somewhat...

Here are typical Multi-Spark firing consistency results of 4 properly adjusted coils using a HCCT by an experienced HCCT user. 100 sparks are fired at the rate of 2000 RPM. The computer keeps track of the time each spark fires and plotted on graph for each coil. The firing distribution results may vary a fair amount each time the test is repeated...

I have been collecting parts to put a Ruckstell together for a while now. I had gotten the housing which had the axle tube cut off which will allow me to ether go small or big drum setup, but that is not my question. Has anyone sleeved the casting where the thrust bearing goes? As it is now, the hole is somewhat wallowed out, so bearing fits loose...

Thanks Karl but not looking for another project. The housing was given to me and because it was free, was the only reason I was messing with it. ;)

Excellent Terry. With the folded seams on the inside of the two shells, they will fit pressed steel ends precisely. However the cast end mufflers will still require an external fold on the outside shell. I have one being made to fit at the moment. Those I have in stock for the pressed end mufflers I make are too small in diameter for the cast end...

The BMC book lists the factory price at $ 950.00 with 298 produced.
The factory price for 1910 was $ 1100.00 only 2 produced.
That should be enough to start a discussion. Gary

I came across this at an antique store today. It seemed too good to pass up. I’m wondering if anyone can please inform me on this? Earlier threads seemed to point out 1914-1915 cars had these. I may or may not keep it depending on its rarity or if someone needs it for their car.

I totally agree with the above red circle. New York City charges double tolls Northbound and none Southbound. If you hit NYC before about 6 AM and after about 9 PM, the traffic is usually manageable. Between those hours you don't want to be there.
