Does anyone know the dia of transmission drums for a 26. I'm thinking for using a local machine shop to turn a small piece of pipe to make a gage to shape my bands. Thanks

This is how I repair the steel transmission drum bands
All that’s needed is rear brake drum. Two can be used, stacked on top of each other, when working on the wide brake drum but I don’t find the need often.
C clamp locking type vise grip and some heat. Place the band around the brake drum and use the vise grip to pull the band tight. Not a lot...

My wife's speedster has a '26 block with a Frontenac overhead, a A Bosch front plate distributor, a water pump, and Livingston V radiator. It has a '20-'25 aluminum hub fan with blades that have been cut down to fit behind the radiator.
I want to eliminate the water pump and the fan that throw grease all over the front of the engine.

Then I looked at the fifth photo, and fan pulley does not look so out of line. Perhaps the angle of the second photo threw me off.

I've been involved in the Model T hobby since 2012. I consider myself a young guy late 30's. I've known about Model T's since I was a kid. Growing up in New Mexico there were still plenty of old junk yards, ghost towns and ravines with remnants of rusted gold, that now have faded to dust in the wind. I got serious in the hobby with a simple google...

I have a block that the wrist pin has damaged the cylinder. Does anybody have any experience with this? Yes, the tab fastened type latches, supplied by Corbin were nickel plated at least in '17-'24 style box with the ribbon divider...

Do they make a strong horn support ?

It's not that hard to do yourself really. I've done it before with success. Trouble is with those re-pop horn bulb brackets, they're so small and flimsy at the attachment point you can repair all you want and they still will break. I copied some other guys idea and got rid of the post and used a brass bolt & nut and it did the job quite well. Just...

It appears to me that if the emergency circuit has a simple single pole on-off switch, the right/left switch will activate both sides together. I think the emergency switch needs to have two separate terminals going out, with no connection between them. Is that right?

Darel,
Good choice. I hope to one day learn there was a K in South America, meaning the model would have been to every inhabited continent.
The last location was Hawaii. The islands were a newer U.S. territory. In 1908 a Model K participated in a reliability contest with a White steamer, Packard, Buicks, Maxwell and Franklin....

The best way to clean one of these tanks is to cut it open at the welds, clean/sandblast/coat it, and reweld it together. You can get by for a while with other methods but this way is permanent.

I haven't been back to this little town in years but remember a guard rail about the statue to protect it from certain death so to speak. there used to be a large building on the corner similar to the photo but it was burned in a fire I think in the late 60's. sure brings back memories however.

Correct water inlet bolts

I’m in the process of removing the water pump and putting the original style water inlet back on my 26. I assume I will be buying a bergs after I get things running, but I’d like to take this link out of the cooling system. The bolts that came off the water pump are modern grade 5 bolts and barely cleared the replacement inlet and horn bracket...

Why would someone cut the front end off a steering bracket?

Hello Fellow Model Ters,
I am restoring my 1911 Touring Car that has a 1926/7 drivetrain. Today, while priming a bunch of its parts I discovered that the steering bracket has been shortened. A past owner has sawed off 3/8 inch from the leading end. I remember the car steering fine with this modification back when I drove it before taking it...
Last post
Steven, The Ford script tells me the bracket is 1919 or later, so not a 1911 part.
It probably does not make any difference that it has been modified, but if an unmodified one was handy, I'd use it. I don't know enough about the chassis of the improved model to know if there us a specific one for your application

Hi all,
I am working on a 1911 Model T Torpedo.
Last week I ordered the right fire wall and finished the clear coat job.
I have questions about the fire wall supports. Are they different as the 1913 support?
In the fire wall, on the car they are three bolt to attach the support on the fire wall.
On the fire wall, I ordered, there are only two...

Thanks for those dimensions.
What is the dimension from the flat back side to the center of the back hole?
What is the distance between the holes?
Thanks,

Composition of steering wheel spokes

I have a Model T steering wheel with the solid iron spokes, not the stamped steel spokes. Are the solid iron spokes cast iron or cast steel? I'm thinking of bending them straight to make a racing style steering wheel for my speedster project. I understand cast iron can't be heated and bent successfully but cast steel can.
Thanks, Gene

Early Brush Painting?

Some early manufacturers applied paint to their bodies using brushes. I know that Japanning sped up the Model T process later on. But I was wondering if anyone is aware of earlier Model T bodies having factory-applied brush painted bodies.
Regards,
Joe

Just to divert a little, hand brush painting was done in assembly line production for English cars well into the 30's. I can still remember running my hands over the brush strokes and being fascinated that the paint was smooth on my great uncles 1936 'Standard' even with the obvious brush marks (probably due to a lot of hand flatting done). That...

Had an old friend over for dinner tonight and showed him my 1915 for the first time. He, a non-T guy enjoyed it immensely. Good to know. I thought they might have been widely produced at the time, but never really had confirmation. Still a fun piece to be given.

Top Wood late 1926 Coupe (not for purists but hopefully helpful)
I tried to purchase a wood kit but at about 4-5 months for delivery I decided to make our own.

This old piece of wood is all that is left to go by and has a thickness of 1-3/8 .
The lumber yard had this single poplar (not ash) board that happened to be 1-3/8 x...

Really depends on what strength the rod bolt is - grade 5 would be approx. #25 - grade 8 would be as Mark suggested.

If the pump is locked I don’t know what they are doing, unless they are pumping from one under...

I’m easily confused. I need a steering gear casting for a 1925 fordor or chassis. What casting numbers am I looking for? The confusion is checking the parts books. I believe those numbers are for castings with bushings installed, hence the confusing numbers, Thanks for any help. AND if you have one , I’m looking. Thanks!

I just removed my bands to have them relined, I was wondering why the removable ear should be on the drivers side. It seems that if it rolled out on the other side there isn't any interference removing the bands while on the driver side you have the pedals and other items you have to work around. Any thoughts? Thanks

Today, I am frightened to do this task because of all the issues that I have read about.
The solution to deciding which side to place the detachable ear is...

To save any chance of damage/breakage, I take the windscreen frames to the glass shop, and then pick up the fitted screen myself. They know what they are doing! I have long since stopped using original brass channels, preferring their black mastic sealant which precludes any moisture getting into the frame and consequent rusting.
