Another question, any idea why the cam bearings are not made in the oversized OD for worn block holes? At one time they were and that solved a lot of problems.

I drilled and fit a Dan McEachern deep sump to a 4 dip pan, with spacer, running an A crankshaft .I put 4 - 7/8 inch stand pipes in the intermediate dip plate, and a 1inch dam at the rear of the pan.
I'm concerned that could increase oil consumption due to excessive splashing.
Appreciate all input.

Not a good idea to make the dam or the standoffs any higher than about 1/4 higher than the horseshoes.

There is an overlap in the Ra finish possible for either lathe turning and grinding. 32-16 is possible with lathe turning. Easier to find someone who can turn your drums rather than grinding.

For those who may not know about it, here's the Z tool for adjusting bands. It's not tedious like the #1917 wrench that came with every car, and not terribly scarce. I see it often among the Model T tools at swap meets.

If you have driven in parades (lots of idling and low pedal) with a Berg's, Brassworks, or other new radiator with no water pump, did you have any overheating? If you've driven in really hot weather (think Phoenix in July) with a Berg's, Brassworks, or other new radiator with no water pump, did you have any overheating?
Last post
I do recall some time ago that one accessory that is allowed on the Montana 500 is a brass plate at the head's water outlet to slow the water flow and let it go through the radiator slower so more heat can be removed.
Water pumps do the opposite!
Is this a true situation or an April 1 Joke?

You are missing the part about the size of the internal capacitor and the fact that it is normally bad in an original coil or the fact the coil will still buzz with a big arc at the points and not last very long.

First off, bodies in the 1910s were mostly made by outside body suppliers, not by Ford. So they varied quite a bit from one supplier to the next as well as even one batch order to the next. I would like to challenge the MTFCA members to teach a non T driver to drive a Model T. Show them how to drive a T at least once. They don't have to become a proficient driver. This may just spark renewed interest in the hobby. Once you have met the challenge post here your experience.

I taught my high school friend to drive hers this past summer. She had never driven it since owning it. She took her lessons the day we got it running after several years of slumber.

I remember reading a thread several months ago about the stain(s) that were used on the wooden coilboxes and on the firewalls.
I'm almost at the point of needing to buy stain, but can't seem to find the thread!
Can anyone suggest to me what stain to get, and in what color?
Thank you.

There are two that are 5/8-24 (one rollfast and 1 Stevens) but the other two are 5/8-24 L They are left hand threads. Other than being left hand threads they are identical to the taps that go with the Stevens front axle repair tool. All four...

I certainly am no expert about these. But there is a considerable difference between 1910 and 1912 roadsters. I couldn't begin to name all the changes, but just having looked at dozens of photos of them, I can see numerous differences. The aforementioned steel clad 1912 bodies is just one thing. All the nuts and bolts on the whole steering system on my ‘25 Coupe were changed to the modern style with self locking nuts that do not work properly which I feel is dangerous. I have often used modern bolts when I didn't have originals. That requires grinding and buffing away the modern markings, drilling cotter holes, stripping off the cad plating (paint won't stick to it), painting, and baking. A week or so ago, our 1914 T touring made a funny noise while riding around town. I couldn't place the noise, so I didn't worry about it. I've welded the band and added a reinforced area on the outside covering the weld.
That is NOT a good idea. It's your brakes for goodness sake... fix them right.
The steel band is essentially in tension — you don’t think a butt weld and overlap reinforcement is going to pull apart?

I used the rebuild kit from Lang's with great success on my '26. The plastic is black and you really can't tell it's not wood until you touch it.
Went together quickly <1hr. Well worth the $70. The old wood I removed was cracked badly..... an ignition problem in the making.

It might work, but the inlet is straight thread for flared pipe, so you would have to do a fitting in between the sediment bowl and I think 1/2 NPT in the tank. Sorry forgot about that.

What would be the best rod to use for welding a small crack in an engine block base?
Earlier I was told mild steel, but I forget the number.
Recently, I was told stainless steel.
Now a guy wants to use nickel that is a lot more expense.

When I have welding jobs about which I am uncertain, I take the job to a pro, especially if cast iron and subsequent machining/drilling/tapping are required. It saves me stuffing it up and perhaps making it worse.

Donnie is 100% correct about loading a large pile. There is nothing like getting in the loft of a barn in Mississippi in the middle of August (100 deg) to clean out a barn full of T parts.
After you get done you wonder why do I do stuff like this.

I wouldn't use leather conditioner on 1922 Model T open car upholstery.
For one thing, it isn't actually leather.
Any goo, goop, salve or ointment you put on factory leatherette will just seep into the cotton backing.
My opinion is that cleaning the leatherette with a rag and soapy water should suffice.

Hello.
In my garage I have a wooden cover for my Internet stuff. It has a width of 870 mm (= 34 1/4 ) and height of 540 mm (= 21 1/4 ).
I would like to glue a poster on it, Black & white is also fine, but I could not find something in sufficiently high resolution for printing in this size.
Should fit to 1916-1920. Something like a Ford...

What you show indicates a March 1917 body date and the other numbers would be the body serial number.
Note: the month and year are usually separated by a dot and then there is another dot followed by the body serial number. If you do see a dash, that most likely is a nick or gouge that occurred at later date.
In any event, because the body is...

How can a LED operate on AC without constant flickering?
John,
There's a long answer to this, but let's stick to the short one for now ... AC LED lamps will typically contain a rectifier, and may also contain a capacitor and driver. These things effectively change the AC to DC, allowing the LED to operate as you need.
With particular regard...
