After that I might have to drive to Indy and then Boston.

I totally agree with the above red circle. New York City charges double tolls Northbound and none Southbound. If you hit NYC before about 6 AM and after about 9 PM, the traffic is usually manageable. Between those hours you don't want to be there.

I have heard all my T days that 26/27 shells are different than 23/25.

What is right? Why did Ford say they are same if they are not? Thanks Dan.

For Jerry, an early shell with square on sides is for a low radiator car.

Yes no mileage limit. The closest thing I have in the car for distance measure is the Langs yardstick gas gauge anyway. Perfect for what I do and the price is right.

When you heated the hub, it expanded outward and inward. Then when you quenched it with water it will shrink more than it was before you started. Since it is a double-sided surface similar to a pipe, the outside diameter gets smaller, and the inside diameter gets bigger due to the wall thickness shrinking from two different directions. That is why...

Neatly done fellows. Much neater than the dash I saw in an original 427 AC Cobra I saw in a museum in Sacramento. I have this 12 tooth made by Ford that doesn't roll nice on either a 39, or 40 tooth ring gear. You can see it's smaller than a 11 tooth, weird. Then I thought maybe it's made for a 44 tooth ring gear, but the ratio is 3.66, so why do that. You can see it's cut like a 9 tooth.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Could it be NRS?
Last post
It was the first iteration of a 4:1 set for the new heavier 15 sedan. Very short lived until the 10 T pinion was developed to work with the normal 40T ring gear. Thusly not requiring a full axle tear-down to change the ratio.
The ring gear is special cut to match the pinion @ 48 teeth.
Neither can be used with the normal 3.66 gears

I have had string-packed water pumps leak air in at higher engine speeds and not leak water out when stopped. That does a great job of simulating a boilover with a non-pressurized system, even when the engine never actually reaches 212. It's also a good way to crack a valve seat.

I took advantage of the Christmas time off to play with my '26 touring. The longer cable may be called for if the speedo drive is mounted on the other side of the car to the speedo. This is sometimes necessary if the swivel joint runs in the opposite direction to normal for a T. Swivels can be LH or RH rotation.

Jimmy Carter was born in 1924. He entered a world full of Model T Fords. In 1976 he beat a man named Ford to become the president off the Unted State. He was an honest man and a man of faith. He served his country as an navel officer. He served humanity for all his life. He was a man of peace. He will be missed, but well remembered.

Regardless of what you think of any of the presidents-past, present, or future-they deserve some modicum of respect for taking that hellish job. They are the Commander-in-Chief, as well.
To make this vaguely Model T related, it occurred to me that I restored my 26 Coupe when Carter was president.

How hard it is to mount them will depend some on how warm the tires are, and how they are made. Wards Riverside tires have ribs that go up the sides a ways and, in my experience, are harder to install than the Blockley tires that I installed on our 1911 touring car.
The HF tire irons work well, as long as tire spoons shown in this link below....

This included replacing the acetylene headlight burners with halogen bulbs that draw a lot of power and require a full size car battery for extended usage. I put the battery under the rear seat with a fuse box and hid the wires in the body and frame to keep it looking...

where can you order new tires without having to take out a mortgage to pay for shipping?
Last post
correction on shipping cost, on earlier post I stated less than half cost, that's doing math quickly in my head ,not 100% accurate, Langs was $140.00, Lucas was $82.00 still a good savings that I couldn't turn down, same tire same price.

Hey, everyone!
The National Aviation Academy in Clearwater, Florida is looking for a KNOWN CRACKED CRANKSHAFT, for instructing students on crack detection. Cracked aircraft cranks are EXTREMELY RARE, (I have been working on aircraft for 49 years, and have only seen 2 actually cracked aircraft crankshafts in all that time, the last one probably 25...

John Maxon;
They probably have an old Magnaflux unit they are using. These are common in A&P schools. We had one in the school I went to back in 1976. These are students just starting out, so I assume it is just to give them the opportunity to see what a crack indication looks like, versus uncracked.
Once I got into the field, I found they...

My key fits nicely into the ignition of the switch plate but doesn’t move the tumbler. I’m afraid the pot metal is swollen but really don’t want to purchase and install a new one. Has anyone had this ignition challenge and overcame it ?

Yes; I was just answering your “rectangle piece is operated by the handle to control the lights” by stating the headlamp lever actuates that square piece. If you’d lift that G shaped central component in your last photo, you’ll see the cylinder and the 2 points at 9 and 3. The cylinder (#58) slightly moves with key #58 but those 2 points prevent...

Merry Christmas!
Every evening I use my 1927 Model T to haul milk and farm products the 1/2 mile from my barn to my store. Here is a video from my Christmas Eve run 2024. It was just about freezing and some combination of slush and ice. You can see the elevation of my driveway if you look at the barn light at the top of the hill. The top section...

Hello -
The previous owner of this 1926 Roadster fit it with a distributor and, while out driving one day, the spark linkage came apart under the hood. The linkage arm was found disconnected (I think the nut fell off). Here’s a picture of the linkage pushed back together without a nut

I’m thinking of repositioning my floor starter Switch, on my model T. The way the cab is configured, I am always hitting it.
My bench seat has a location on the face, to place a switch. Has anyone relocated their switch and if so, could I have some pointers , such as Photos etc.
Thanks in advance George
Last post
Hi George,
I once made a little hinged flip over cover for a guy that had that issue. With the cover over the switch you couldn't press the button just
flip it over with your heel to start & back over to prevent accidental engagement.

I just acquired a mint original 3Z pack nut wrench. I doesn't appear to have ever been used. What is interesting to me is the paint. It appears to have been primed with an orange primer prior to the black finish coat. I've not seen anything like this ever. It's definitely very old, and not done recently.

I don't recall ever seeing painted Z tools. I think the paint job is probably an aftermarket addition.

The rubber grommets used to make the tail lamp wire bushings dried up and fell apart after thirty-some years of service, so I replaced them with new ones of about the same size.

Here is my interpretation and how I have fitted the insulating supports for the tail light wire on my 27 Roadster.
The extra wiring loom carries the turn indicator and brake light wires.
I attached the tail light wire separately just because that's how it came from the factory. What can I say, I'm a futz with this kind of thing. Some people enjoy...

I don't know what I'd do if I lived where it snowed like that and to think it lasts for months. One day in January 1949 it snowed in Montrose where I lived as a boy. Only lasted on the ground for about 3 days. That is the most snow I have ever lived in. My dad took me to school which was about 3 miles. I was in middle school at the time. We stood...

So, I have this magnet recharger on its way.
Besides adding a switch which is easy enough, where would I put a meter? Does it matter which leg it would go on between the switch and coils?
Sorry about having to use the full listing from eBay, could not get just a single image to load properly.
I had gotten more information from the seller that...

Got the charger, no photos yet, but looks well-constructed. Tried it with a battery charger on 12 volts, ya it's going to need more power than that.
I would try it on the lowest DC setting on my welder but no place to plug it in right now.
RE the push button, got one that should be more than adequate for the job.
So, need to revamp the...

In the initial photo posted, the early car is RHD. The 20's something tourer alongside is LHD.
The later photo in Luke's post has been reversed. OK, there were LHD and RHD early cars, but by the 20's LHD was universal, so the first photo is the correct way around, with the 20's tourer showing as LHD.

Hello all, my electric failed at church a few weeks ago. I successfully crank started it and got home. Now it behaves oddly and I am perplexed. If I take the footswitch battery to switch cable off and put it back on the electrical comes on (horn works, coil boxes buzz) and press the foot switch I get one small rev of the starter then everything...

I think it was 2 problems which made it difficult to figure out. I think the + battery cable was subtly loose at the lead battery cable tie down and probably the switch was bad as well. I am ok with changing out the GM cable because the new Lang ones connections look much more solid. This isn't the first time that this has happened, but it had...
