Your Opinion On Tire Brands….

I have always used Firestone on my T’s and A’s but see from different sites some brands are out of stock. For the 21 x 4.40-4.50 are there any brands you would NOT recommend? This is for a ‘25 Coupe where a previous owner added the ‘26-‘27 wire wheels. Thanks

Most modern tires are of much heavier construction and most carry a higher volume of air. It only takes a very small amount of air to restore the pressure on the T tires. Modern pickup truck tires take a lot more air to raise the pressure the same amount. Still, I'd rather they'd go month or so rather than about a week. I usually air up the T...

Acetylene gas lights - any alternatives?

I would like to bring my 1912 commercial Roadster closer to original condition. However, the idea of using Calcium Carbide as a source of illumination gas seems daunting and messy. Are there any alternatives to the original set up? Is it possible to use either a Prestolite tank or Coleman camp fuel to serve as a more viable and workable solution?

Battery Life using coils

If I was to run a T motor using the 4 coils and a 12 volt battery, no generator and no mag, about how long would the battery last before needing recharging ? Then throw in LED headlights and tail-stop light and charge life would be reduced but reduced less if ran in daylight hours without headlights. Would it last 6-7 hours without using a starter?
Last post
In your case, carrying a second, LI type cycle battery as a reserve would probably get you through 3 days. They seem to hold a charge very well over time.

I don't think the front spring for a pickup would differ from that of the passenger car. Keep in mind, the 1926-7 front springs are eight leafs, and set one inch lower than the former 7 leaf springs. These springs were used in mid to late 1925 models too.

Another common cause of dragging bands is bent pedals. When the transmission is in high the clutch pedal should be about even with the reverse pedal. If it is not, you can heat the pedal down low at about the point where it bends vertical to come up through the pedal slot and bend it back so it's even with the reverse pedal. Most are bent forward...

Easy way to find a short that has worked for me for 45 years is to disconnect one battery cable, it doesn't matter which one, connect a test light between the cable and the battery terminal. Replace any bad fuses. If the light comes on, there is a draw on the battery, so you disconnect one circuit at a time until the light goes out. That...

My '26-7 car seems to have an appetite for timers. It is equipped with a New Day type timer and has a modern oil seal on the cam. The engine runs well, for the most part. After driving the car several months, probably a thousand miles or so, it began to run ragged on battery. I decided to look at the timer, which had a fair amount of metallic dust...

The car now runs very well, and the timer, after 200 or so miles, is holding up. One of...

Since the horn on my 1916 T has lost it's brass part sometime in the last 105 years I now made a cone by myself as I did not find an original part.
From the 'bay' I got a fairly cheap trumpet and cut off the cone with an iron saw.

It does not have the perfect shape or diameter but does look fine enough for my taste....

The horn looks great, but I would second the comment about brass rivets. I have never encountered any sort of chemical fastener (glue) that will stand up long-term to constant vibration. It may be six months or six years, but in my experience, you are going to lose that bell as it is presently secured. I have even seen FAA approved bonding agents...

Hey Everyone
I finally got to the point with my new to me 1915 Touring that I feel comfortable driving it without thinking what to do. My car has a KC Warford and up until today I was driving in 2 or standard gearing at speeds around 30 mph. I dropped it into 3 or overdrive and got my T up to about 45 and to be honest that speed was a bit scary so...
Last post
As to the original question. Cruising speed with the Warford is the same as without. The bulk of performance accessories for the Model T are to improve hill climbing where the lack of power is really evident. What the Warford does is to give you an overdrive to lower engine rpm. With the lower rpm comes less wear and tear, noise and better fuel...

Update. My friend Gene ordered a new mag post from Langs. With it installed, the magneto works fine. We're not entirely sure what caused the failure of the original but we have some ideas...at this point we're just glad it's working. Thanks again for the info and advice.

I have seen the over steer on a 1926 with worn out slot, but my 1921 without the slot, 30 or 21 wheels, I never encounter any over steer. What sparkplug are you guys running in your high compression heads?
Cheap 1 piece champions, champion X & autolite platinum long reach 14 mm.
If you need different heat range, go 14 mm. Datsun Z plugs are a good length for adapters.

But on several braze repairs I have made over the years, I have coated the brass with plain Epoxy glue. Just a thin coat of simple clear Epoxy. The Epoxy sticks to the brass pretty well, and the paint adheres very well to...

As the AACA event is on, near, and around the Hershey entertainment centre. I wonder if this statement from Hershey (Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company) applies:

26 fordor rear fender question

Are 26 fordor rear fenders the same as coupe, touring and roadster? I am going to hershey and hope to find some but need to know what i am looking at. Thanks in advance
Last post
When I was looking for ‘26 sedan rear fenders I found the right rear fender was often available as NOS. The left fender was always the difficult one to find. I have discovered with Hershey, if it’s in your hand and you need it, buy it. After walking back to a spot to reconsider, the part was often gone.

Early crank pulley removal help

Bill Elliott » Tue Sep 21, 2021 6:39 pm

I'm trying to remove the busted crank pulley on my 1910 T, but I can't seem to get it far enough to remove it from the engine because the narrow engine snout won't allow it. There's got to be another way to get this off other than removing the pan. Any tips would be appreciated!
Last post
Bill, an early one is worth saving. I have some black pipe which is a little bigger OD than the centre of the pulley. I bore out the old damaged centre to fit the pipe. Usually there is a radius left on the back of the pulley into which I run a full circle weld. The pipe is then machined back to length and bored to suit the crankshaft snout. If...

I have reproduced the factory warranty label for Weston HCCT meters.
Any remnant of the original label is lost during refurbishment.
These are made on anti-tamper property tag labels.
Once installed, they can not be removed.
To date I have refurbished about 30 Weston meters for the HCCT.
Anyone who has had their Weston meter refurbished by me...

Does anyone know where I can find the non conductive black paint for the tops of ignition coils? Searching through the old forum threads didn’t really come up with anything.

Was it paint, or was it ink or black stain? Don't know that I have ever seen any sign of black paint on any of the coils that I have worked with.
original is always a difficult question to answer.
Answer to non-conductive paint
Don't use Acrylic Paint
So can acrylic paint conduct electricity? Yes, despite being plastic and water based,...

Hello all!
My dad found this car being sold from an estate and we hope to have some fun with it. It was a runner when parked so far as we know, but has sat for at least five years. A complete spare chassis was included that appears to be in fairly good shape, so we have plenty to mess with.

I can't figure out how to post a picture, but I saw one of a brace the had two bump outs for the headlights. How do they mount, use existing riveted holes replaced by bolts or would you have to drill holes, (I wouldn't)

Later '14s came with the front bill. The LF fender definitely has no bill and is also beat to crap!
Who knows which came first on this car! But one was no doubt replaced due to probable damage.

Generator over charging?

My generator seems to be charging too much. I don't want to burn it out or damage my battery. It is putting out 9.3V and 13A on the dash gauge at a high idle. I've moved the 3rd brush all the way away from the engine (opposite generator rotation) and it seem to make no difference. Am I missing something? I have a solid state cutout and a 6V...

The high voltage reading is still telling me there is no battery connection(open) or possibly an internal battery problem. Keep picking @ it. /// ....................//// The voltage will run high if there is a poor connection anywhere between the battery and the generator, including the entire ground path. The same is true if the battery is in...

Mystery Hill Climb Medal from 1909

Here's a mystery to me. I thought someone here might like to see it.
This little medal came in a bunch of parts from 1911 Ford I bought years ago. The metal appears to be dated 1909, so it obviously predated that car, which I later restored and sold, and the medal got thrown into a can in the shop, which I am trying to now clean up.
The date on...

Magneto Horn Questions....

Got a question, is the battery horn's diaphragm the same diameter as the magneto horn and can it be used as a replacement? I know this seems like a stupid question, but I need to ascribe a part number to the diaphragm and the only one I can come up with is the one for the battery horn.
On and one more thing....on the magneto horn, this picture...

Actually Steve, all I needed to know is the diameter (across the crown of the threads) of the screw shaft. My suspicion is that it is probably a 12-32, would be .185 which would indeed be an odd size today, but more or less common back then. But you can buy said die from any machine shop supply house for under $12.00...they come in both right and...

Ed did three engines for me all of which are still running fine after many, many miles without so much as a rod shim having to be removed. He was a master T mechanic and a really nice guy. Before the days of Skat cranks he managed somehow to find a standard EE crank for me after the original crank in my '10 joined the two piece club. A real loss!
