I drive open cars and find I am comfortable down to 50*F with a heavy coat, gloves, and wool cap. Below that I need a balaclava covering my face. I don't drive below 40* . When I get bundled up to drive below 40* I can't move very well and driving is not fun.

Perhaps some photos are needed.
The Side curtain rod is 7/16 stock. The hole in an unswaged 7/16 grommet is smaller than 7/16 because the tapered press makes it larger after it passes thru the washer.
Here is an original Ford groomet on my 26 Runabout.

Going thru some more boxes from the auction. Found these two bearings. One is an original Ford bearing and the other is the modern replacement for it. The bearing is approx 4-1/2-inch OD, 2-3/8 ID, and 7/8 inch thick. I did not have a mic handy so I just measured it with a ruler. The picture shows the original part number with TT and Ford script....

212 is the original side thrust rux bearing #. Current # 7212. 6212 would be the same dimensionally without side thrust.(never use in a rux)
As far a s TT, I know nothing. I would not guess them to use the same bearings. The alphabet behind the number indicates cage & seal info.
Its rux sized. 60x110x25mm

For almost 50 years, I have known of a 1926 coupe that has a well worn sticker on the bottom left corner of the windshield. From what I recall, it was a notice to the customer about break in speed for the first 500 miles, general care, tire size, etc. The car has never been apart; it may have been “brushed-up” in the 1950s or 1960s. I am assembling my gearbox after having replaced a couple of wheels which loose a tooth and made my roadster pick-up to a high gear only car.
Now when I managed to catch the 3 pins in the flywheel the transmission is somewhat tight. I can move the drums by hand but not freely.
I believe there is only one way the three triple gears and the center...

At what point during the assembly does it get tight to turn?
I assume you are using the original pins and used gear and bushings the face of the bushing touches the flywheel. There should be about 0.006” clearance between the gear and the flywheel.
I assemble the drums on a flat surface, then put the triple gears and driven gears with the “U”...

brake fluid reservoir location

I repositioned the brake fluid reservoir to a position that is below the brake mechanism.
Does it matter that it is below the mechanism? Must it be higher for gravity feed or is there a negative pressure (positive pressure?) that sucks the fluid into the brake lines.......
Thank you in advance.

I installed a 1914 gas tank under the seat of this 1912 Torpedo. The reservoir fit perfectly under the seat high above the master cylinder. But due to the gas tank I have to find another higher ground.

David,
If 3084 survived into the 1950s as a running fairly original car -- it most likely is still around barring some major disaster such as a garage fire etc. An early May 1909 car would have been very disirable then as well as now.

Any help is appreciated.

Steve's idea is great & loosely based on a rim removal wrench illustrated in the Ford Service Bulletins - simple blacksmithing involved without the need for a hinge. I've had good results with the headlight off the car on a piece of rubber belting on the floor so I could use my weight to force the rim down then twist.

Apart from the roll-up centre section of the back of the top, that car could well be a twin to my first real T model, a 1922 standard Duncan and Fraser tourer. Note the canvas top, the full length wooden hood bows fixed to a flat iron one man mechanism. By 1923 the tops were fitted with socket type bows.

Last post
Hasslers, most H&D type (made by many different companies!), and Float-a-Fords , are generally fine both front and rear.
But the ones that hang the Ford's front spring from a coil spring held up above from the axle? On the front end? NEVER!

Hello Fellow Model T-ers,
I am hoping that some of you might help me mount my gas light generator correctly on the running-board. It’s going on a 1911 Touring Car.
For example, I would like to know;
1 & 2). Where on the 45” x 8” running-board should it be mounted, both front to back and across the short 8” width. And/or it’s position relative...

Steve,
Your tank is a bit different than the one on our 11 touring, but here are the dimensions of where the bracket that holds the tank are on the driver's side running board:

I was out and about in my 26 tudoor today. It seem like it was running so well then it happened. Started popping and missing like crazy in traffic. I managed to get into a parking lot and called my son to bring the trailer. While I waited I pulled off the valve cover because I had a suspicion. My suspicion proved to be right. A valve retaining pin...

Model T tappit VS Ford Y block tappit

Posting this for FYI. T body is 7/16 . Y block is 1/2 with a divot in the top for push rod. Foot is the same size. I understand why this conversion is convenient for OHV.

I used the Y-Block tappets in my Model N engine rebuild. Just ground the tops down till the cup was gone.

The buyer of my Roadster Pickup has asked me a very interesting question. We will be taking it back home on an open trailer. We will secure the convertible roof but he is worried about the windshield on highway speed. I have never transported my T’s in the open. What should I do to protect the windshield?
Thanks

I've been a prevalent question-asker recently and I'm back with another one.
I have been a new T owner for about 5 months now, while driving my 25' Coupe on magneto and at higher speeds of around 30MPH, it will begin chugging like it wants to quit. This happens only on rare occasion, and it may be due to improper spark adjustment on my part, but...

John C. If you still have your old ammeter and you trust the readings it provides, wire it in series with the new meter you are trying to sort out. Connected in series both meters will give identical current readings, tho the' Charge/Discharge' indication will be reversed if the polarity is incorrect. If you distrust both meters, proceed as...

This magazine is solely focused on Model T owners, and is an interesting read if not for the many (many!!) ads for accessories but for the articles as well.

Need to fix the front door lock of my '16 Touring

Last week I found out why my front door randomly opens during driving my Lizzy, so this is another work over winter.
The spring inside the door lock mechanism must be either weak or broken , therefore the door easily opens when driving over a bump or when it is a little bit pushed from inner side.
I compared with rear (perfectly working) door...

Thank you very much.
This door lock doesn't appear to be a real problem. The most problem is getting it out of the door without damaging the inner coverage.
Btw:
My car's inner body coverage looks like some kind of cardboard (similar to material of very old suitcase) covered by some kind of thin textile. The borders are covered by a U-shaped...

I have a '26 touring that I am attempting to install a horn in. The problem I am running into is that the car has a water pump so the original location for mounting is not available. I am trying to keep the water pump as the car has lived more of its life with it than without so I feel that it is this cars history. Is there a bracket available...
Last post
My '26 came with a water pump - since discarded.
But I still have the horn hung from the rear of the bonnet (hood) rod via a home-made bracket.
Convenient and looks like it belongs there.

It seems I haven’t gotten anything done on the Mercury in months, so today I set the body on the chassis. Now I can finalize the chassis mounts and design a new fuel tank. I moved the body back an inch and a half for more “Rajo room”. And yes I tried not to think about the paint cost when it was hanging in the air.

Sold for £33,750 Inc premium. I didn't go to view, would have liked to know if the frame was 1909. Still think the new owner might have trouble getting a UK registration. The more genuine 1912 seems unsold.

Consulted the service bulletins last night. I found 2 different published float setting dimensions.
The typical view with a dimension of 15/64 (<1/4 ) Top of float to machined bowl surface.
The second dimension comes in a mention of the vaporizer float. It is stated as 1/4 , exactly the same as the previous carburetor.
Could this be a deviation...

I’ve never been real fussy with the Float Level and usually set it level when the Carby is held upside down.
Never use force to close the needle onto the seat. I’ve seen Blokes push the float upwards to bend the tag to achieve a level setting. This has the potential to damage a standard needle and seat and wreck the Viton tipped upgraded Valve....

I carry a spare resistor and a spare module. You never know when you'll need one or the other, but you WILL need them! The starter solenoid is not reliable, either. It's a great truck, but the electrical stuff is of almost English quality.
