I was driving a new to the family Model T today and the right front wheel collapsed while making a left turn in a busy intersection . Thankfully no one was hurt and the car was not damaged. The wheels appear to be originals that had been “restored”. This incident could have been much much worse! Make sure you are checking your wheels or better yet...

From following some comments and post there appears to be a few new to the Model T posting. The trend is to achieve speed, speed that at the time the Model T was constructed could only be achiever on a Board Track. That is 40 mph plus. Today it is easy to achieve 40 on smooth highways. But at the time of the T's introduction the speeds were much...

I'm trying to help a friend get his new (to him) Model T ready for the Michigan Jamboree next week. We had to pull the head and in doing so, became suspicious of the head bolts.
They are obviously not original and we question whether they are shorter than they should be. The car is a 1922 with what I think is a high head. How long should the...

IMO, 55 lbs/ft is very max. and could lead to stripped block threads.
Mfg. of Z head doesn’t recommend extreme tightening.

Touring top pads

The top on my 1914 touring is in pretty good shape but the pads are shot. Some parts suppliers carry the pads. The pads are attached under the top material, as I understand it. I really don’t want to remove the top to install the pads. Is there another way?
Thanks in advance.
Last post
If you remove just enough tacks to insert a new pad and you do one bow at a time, it should be possible. Definitely would take 2 people. The straps are the most important part for holding the top in place and you are not changing those.

My car idles pretty good for the most part, but I notice that on hot idle, it will idle smoother if I open the dash adjustment a little past what does best for running on the road. That seems odd to me. To get the best slow idle when hot, I move the spark lever up part way. Opening the dash adjustment then gives a near perfect idle. Is this...

Your fuel level is not correct. Fuel level needs to be raised to richen idle. When properly adjusted, the carb needs no tweeking, unless changing altitude. The float setting dimension is a starting point. Its a trial & error thing to get right.

When in close quarters, such as pulling into a garage, or backing up, I put the lever in neutral . On a closer look, the main leaf does not look like it belongs to the rest of the leaves. The two outboard bends are way more shallow than those on the tapered leaves. The windshield support rods on the two Ts in front look to me to be bowed out a bit suggesting rear folding windshields making them 1914 model year Fords. They all look fairly new as well. That would mean the photo would have been taken no earlier than late 1913.

Some drums are a bit beyond balancing by removing metal. If the casting is poorly centred at the time of manufacture, it may require so much material to be removed that the part is compromised, as it was in this case. The best answer is to find another drum. The new ones are much better balanced, being CNC machined.

just so you know, a cut-out is a cut out. A voltage regulator is a voltage regulator. The VR was a very popular product as it detected when the battery needed a charge and when it did not, thus keeping the battery from abuse at the speeds we drive.

1921 Center Door Gas Tank Mounting Question

I need some help figuring out how to mount the gas tank located under the driver's seat on my '21 Center Door. Does it sit on top of the floorboards and be held in place by the driver's seat and if so how is it bonded to the car's frame? I can't find any photos online or an explanation on how it is attached? If you can post some pictures that...
Last post
How (or is it) bonded metallically to the frame or is it isolated? Seems like a risk of static discharge without an electrical/mechanical bond to the car's frame.
It would be grounded through the supply pipe that feeds the carb. If worried about grounding and using rubber connections, you could mount a ground between the seat frame and floor...

Just for a theoretical discussion I'll make up some numbers. Let's say 50/50 antifreeze keeps my Model T's operating temperature down to 190º. Some folks claim that Product X will lower that to 180º. Is that better? Why? A related question: How cool is too cool?
Last post
180 to 200 is fine. Running cooler than 180F invites sludging of the crankcase and carbon deposition in the combustion chamber. A well-worn engine may operate a little better running around 180. A tight engine in good tune would probably rather run about 190-200F, and could be expected to stay cleaner and provide better fuel economy at the higher...

It is a simple matter to bend the forging with the bolt out towards the ramp a bit. One crescent wrench across the arm, another across the first wrench to work as the turning lever. Inserting the bolt head down will help, providing a wider contact on the cam.

Sorry, I didn’t take any pictures and the car isn’t here. I just put the hub in the lathe and scribed a line so the bolt circle stayed concentric. I used 1/4-20 slotted screws and made the standoffs long enough to clear the wheel. Basically the same as a wood wheel.

So a TT made between Jan-July 1925 would have been a 1924 model year truck.
No. The 1924 model year would be August 1923 through July 1924. The 1925 model year is August 1924 through July 1925. The model year usually comes four months before the calendar year, not behind it. This November 1925 truck is a 1926 model. That's why it has the 1926...

Hi everyone,
I need to make the wooden mount blocks but the ones that were in mine basically were sawdust and some were missing. Has anyone got a photo of them installed and has anyone got the dimensions of the blocks and the cutouts so I can make some? Were there any under the running boards?
I have a 1926 T Coupe.
Many thanks in advance,

Don't have a clear photo, but D and F are a sandwich that goes up into the subframe rail. Provides support for the longer bolt that goes from the turtle deck into the frame. Enlarge the link given and the captions provide more info on placing D.
Here's a runabout with original blocks, but doesn't show the rear blocks that go deep into the frame...

The front tires on my 1924 TT Truck are 5.25 X 21 . What is the proper tire pressure? The rear tires are 6.50 X 20 and say 50 LBS single and 60 LBS dully. Thanks Mark
Last post
Tire pressures recommended by Ford on the T cars and TT trucks, for the 21 balloon tires.
Text above the chart reads to be safe and add 2 or 3 more psi ;)

Have been trying to remove the universal and ball covering from 1907 Model N.
I removed the grease access screws from each side and note there is a slotted screw head bolt.
I can turn it but it does not thread out.
Is it a pin that needs to be driven out?
The ball is damaged so would like to repair or replace.
Any suggestions???
Fred

I'll second what Trent said. You should be able to line up the pin to the holes and drive it out with a punch. I've never needed to drill the pin out on an NRS or a T.
