Found a little info on Buckeye jack manufacturing. Founded in 1904 in Louisville OH. Moved to Alliance OH in early 1910. Struggled through the depression, closed in 1934. This may help to date the early jacks with Louisville on them.

I don't think your engine is BACKFIRING it is most likely firing forward and the explosion is in the muffler. You most likely have an erratic ignition problem and the unburnt fuel is igniting in the muffler.
Or is it backfiring through the carburetor?

I would like to bring my 1912 commercial Roadster closer to original condition. However, the idea of using Calcium Carbide as a source of illumination gas seems daunting and messy. Are there any alternatives to the original set up? Is it possible to use either a Prestolite tank or Coleman camp fuel to serve as a more viable and workable solution?

On my '14, since the rivets were sound and there were no housing cracks, I left them alone and just mig'd over the inside of them. It's been almost 20 years and still no leaks from any of the rivets. Odd High Speed Clutch Problem

Hello! Once again I come to the MTFCA gurus for help.
We are having an odd problem with our T and would love some fresh thoughts.
The car:
- 1927 touring, with a 1923 engine.
- Fresh rebuild of rear axel and engine. Didn’t fully open up the transmission, but did install new kevlar bands, and the clutch discs were all cleaned and inspected....

Clutch discs hanging up on drum lugs?
This is it! While I wish it was as easier fix, I suppose at least it is fixable. Ernie says in hind sight those lugs were somewhat chewed up but he thought they were good enough to work. Clearly not. He took the clutch fingers clear out so all we had was low, and the car runs with no issues. So that is...

I have a non electric 23 roadster that has 30x3 square fellow non demountable wheels on the front and 30x3 1/2 on square fellow non demountable wheels on the back. What should it have to be correct? Some say 30x3 1/2 steel fellow non demountables all the way around…..boy the wheels on the car look like that have always been with the car. Opinions...
Last post
I personally appreciate this new information on these scarce wheels - parentage & availability.
Was not aware of the electric car wheel option of a non demountable.
They have been a wonder. I chose these for my 14 as a safety improvement over wood fellows & not wanting to go to wires.
They look really good to me.

I just discovered a large Model T auction this Saturday September 11 in Knox PA 9:30 am by Rankin Auction Service. Many cars, hacks and tons of parts. Engines, frames, wheels, rear ends etc. It's worth going too the auction site just to see what is shown in the pictures.
I have no connection with this auction I just wanted to share what I found.

Thanks. What speed do you drive your car at in overdrive?
Speed depends on road conditions. I don't use it to go faster unless on very good surface with plenty of sight distance. Mostly use is to lower RPM for any given speed. My car does cruise well at about 40 mph on a good road (clocked by another car) whether in overdrive or not. I don't...

So my left rear fender is tilted. Is the hanger causing this? It seems like the end should be parallel to the ground. If so do I bend the hanger by hammering it on an anvil or some other method? I tried to bend a front fender hanger before, it did not go well.
Last post
The fender itself may be slightly warped to one side. I had a good pair I had bought for my 21 Touring and after painting them before final assembly I noticed the right one slightly warped. I slightly bent it downward and it’s pretty close now. I should have caught it early before painting. I guess I should have looked closely first.

It is on! You do have to back out the U brackets all the way to get them on. Getting the cotters off, backing the U's off and putting them back on was work but the cool factor of the tire carrier is off the charts. Lang's is out of the lower stud so I am using a rim bolt temporarily.

This one has an Allen manufactured flywheel, not a Ford flywheel.
I believe this was sold as a complete HCCT.
Allen also sold a HCCT kit to which you would add a Ford flywheel/magnet assembly and a magneto field coil.

. Cap shown in the picture that I received from Dave Huson.
. Grease cap shown in the picture that came with my Touring.
Are all of the above ok or is there something in particular I should be doing?
Last post
The grease-cup version is a period accessory or a modified original cap
taking too long to put an APCO cap is a new one on me... :?

1915ish Coil box switch wiring? Lights?

Hello all, I have just started wiring this coil box. The top row of contacts is for the commutator, the second row is to the spark plugs. I assume that the third row of 2 contacts is for switching and maybe lighting? I don't know what they are for. How one might wire and the driver turns on and off lights on a speedster mix such as this? Guidance...

Thanks for the wiring links. I'm not an electrical sort but these may be helpful in figuring out the hodgepodge of wires on my non stock electrified '14.

Mystery Body Tag
by
20touring » Mon Sep 13, 2021 11:27 am
This tag is located inside of the door jamb on the drivers side rear door of my ‘20 touring on the bottom sill towards the front. I thought it had to do with daily production but according to Ford records 2850 were built that day.
The tag seems to be a soft material (lead?).
Have any other members found a similar tag on their cars?

Here we are fitting the steering bracket for Hay wagon to speedster project. It is a bit off. The front hole in the base to the frame lines up, see the bolt and nut is on red circle. The other is somewhat off (red circled) and the top one is definitely off. What might be the problem? I realize that I need to put the base flange under the rail not...

Yep... this is what I cautioned you about last year when you were seeking firewall brackets for an earlier firewall on a ‘26-‘27 frame. At that time I offered a correct earlier frame for $50. This steering column bracket quandary is an example of T parts not being totally interchangeable.

This is the front spring shackle. Should there be the gap where the red arrow is pointing?
Last post
We could buy off-the-shelf 2 long bronze bushes to suit T model front and rear shackles. A set of those could be left just long enough for that shackle to work well. Good original forged shackles are likely better than the repops available. Yours may not even be for a Ford, but they are likely better than others you will find.

In 1996 I purchased the below 1920 touring. My father having had 2 model T’s on the farm back in the ‘30’s was I think surprised when I told him I wanted a T and zeroed in on a touring that was the same as what he had. We went to look at it and brought it home the following week.

An interesting overhead no doubt... and have no idea what it is. The Roof 8 valve heads had 3 exhaust ports, and definitely had a water outlet in front. I suspect that the wad of paper towels stuffed between the rockers are plugging the upper water outlet...?

I found this tool, with Model T parts, I purchased last week.
The name on the side is very faint but it appears to be ( New Britain VL-200 ).
Any clue, what it is?

Yep thats a valve sring compesser. They make them in all sizes from Briggs & Straton to big truck. I prefer them to most made for model T's they give you more room to install the pin in the valve stem. You can add washers to the yoke if its to small for what you are working on (up to a point)
It's allways great to get bonus tools.

How long can the T run on battery ignition ?

joe.wal » Sun Aug 29, 2021 8:27 am
First post
What is new to my T is that it sputters under acceleration (even on level ground).
I opened both outlets at the bowl and carburetor - fuel was running freely and was clean.
After that for a few miles everything was fine, regular acceleration power.
Then again sputtering (I hear 'patch patchadipatchpatch' from the carburetor), letting fuel flow,...
Last post
What I found out is that there is no stuttering when I move the throttle veeery slowly and steadily down to accelerate ///// This suggests a weak ignition system. It may or may not be a battery voltage problem. If you can run on mag most of the time, a good battery will last a long time, assuming you use the starter very little. Besides a problem...

I see a very easily fabricated sheet metal piece, cut into 3 pieces, inserted and then tack welded together again with a carriage bolt captured in the center. No big deal.

Story in today's Wall Street Journal.
but the car had been rotting for years. The wooden pickup bed my grandfather built was intact. But the rest of the car was in terrible shape. The front seat was stuffed with horsehair, and rodents had had a field day. Some of the metal was damaged through the years, and the whole thing stank to high heaven.

His grandfather biught it new in 1918. It was shipped knockdown? by rail and assemble at the ND farm. It had been sold 40 yeas ago end ended up being stroed outside, This man hunted it down and restore it. It has been a tourig when new and his grandfather built it into a pickup.

The old man steps up to his car,
It is a very old one with narrow tires.
It has a crank handle out front,
And he grasps it with his right hand.
He puts out a wire loop on the left,
And pulls up the crank four times,
then steps around to the left side
And turns a key and a buzz is heard.
He returns to the crank and takes hold,
He spins the crank...

This is the ending I was going to use for my poem.
The old car is an old, old friend,
He has owned in for a long time,
The old man gets in the old car,
And drives down the road for one last time.
