Here’s the oil pan that goes with the 22 dated engine I bought at Luray. I bought the block with pistons, crank, cam and head plus this pan for $100
I used an inspection cover I redid from Hershey, and replaced one pet cock and the wishbone studs from my stash of parts.
The cover is really shiny from a spray bomb, sanded between coats.

A little here and a little there. It takes time but well worth it. Pretty soon you’ll have the chassis together. How is the babbitt in the block. Sometimes but not often blocks show up with pretty good babbitt. Use to find those years ago but not real often these days.
I haven’t checked yet but that’s next on the list. I completed the parking...

Hello all,
The carb restoration took me to pay attention to the gas tank and after cleaning and sealing it, I have found that the sediment bulb wont fit. The PO has installed a brass bushing in the outlet and had screwed in a brass elbow leading to a copper line to a flex hose to carb. There was no sediment bulb.
I'd like to restore it to...

Good find, Allan.
The wood handled Model T screwdriver was sure a lot handier
than it's replacement, the plier/screwdriver combination.
Interesting that a screwdriver was furnished once again starting

Eric, squashing the spring down will be of no benefit. You may shorten it, but that will mean it will be less likely to completely drive the band off the drum, contrary to its purpose. If the longer springs can be fitted, that is the way to go.

The 1917 wrench has survived in vast numbers, and most of us have it. You can adjust your bands with it, as intended.

The 5-Z-829 ratchet is much easier to use (quicker). You don't have to turn it over multiple times.

One can only speculate as to what happened here. The car was disassembled who knows when in a space that you almost couldn't work in. Guessing the hoarding developed over time as the car sat and became unaccessable. Plenty of $ stuff there but plenty of junk too.

Colin, the tip on the Lang's driver is forged with the square blade side on the flat. The T driver was made bu forging the tip with the square of the blade turned so that the corner of the square was worked down. This gives a different shape to the actual driving tip of the blade.

Lightweight Model T Hauling Trailer?

ivaldes1 » Wed May 12, 2021 11:28 pm
First post
I am intrigued by this purpose built trailer that looks like it was built specifically to haul a Model T. Are there plans available to build something like this? My van can only do 3500 lbs towing capacity so a hefty car hauling trailer is out. The one in the picture looks lightweight.
Or can these/have these been made into a T hauler?
Last post
The single axle trailer works with little drama if loaded correctly. For the 22 Texas T Party we used the 54 shown earlier in this thread along with my 53 as the vulture wagons, each with a single axle trailer. The 54 pulled the trailer from the beginning of this thread and my 53 pulled a similar trailer. Balanced loading and a matched tow vehicle...

Yes. I believe it is one and the same. It was rusty when found with no carbon deposits. I believe it was never installed. Do you still have the patterns? It looks like it would work great with a very aggressive high lift camshaft with a little mill work.

Thank you to everyone that has posted.
When I first came across this manifold in a lot of parts, the only thing that kept me from putting it in the scrap bin straight-away was the MADE IN CANADA on it. After hearing from some members more in the know on Canadian parts, while yes it is somewhat uncommon here in the States, not so much in Canada...

How's your fuel level? With the tank below the seat, sometimes if it gets low, it does not flow very well to the carburetor. Also, with our modern blend of fuel, sometimes if the fuel is more than a few months old it will begin to jell and clog up the line and carburetor input. Try running a wire between the ends of the fuel line to clean it out....

Cutting out the plain area of the mat around the pedals would make installation easier and would eliminate any interference by the heavy, stiff mat material with the pedals. Cheap option. Get a 1/8 mpt x 1/8 fmpt fitting in brass. clean up the threads as little as you think you can get away with J-B weld that
( if you must) then screw the petcock into that fitting , it will have a hex on it so you can back it up with a wrench.

Hindsight is 20/20, but the Model T could have had direct magneto ignition from the outset. All that was needed was a simple magneto, driven off the engine, and connected directly to the...

By adjusting the control rod longer or shorter, one can make the hydramatic shift more agressively or at a lower rpm. The timing has to be set perfect to get it to shift correctly. If you start out mellow, it will continue shifting at lower rpm all thru the gear changes even if you decide to hasten it up with the pedal.

I'll second the thin pinstripe.
Everything I've seen supports blue fenders and splash guard up to 1912, black afterwards. There is a chance the running board itself was black on the earlier cars, based on color illustrations in the Ford Times. Haven't checked an original condition car for that detail though.
Generally speaking, it's wiser to...

What is the size and type of these bolts that hold the 26-27 pickup bed to the frame? I’m thinking hex head and fine thread, but size and length? I know they have to pass all the way through the frame and the wood blocks up in the frame…. Thanks! IMG_1423.jpeg

Hey fellers, drove my car around today and all was well. Battery was charging and no issues. Came home and tightened up my 4 bolts holding my switch and ammeter and hooked up my battery and saw a little smoke starting to come from my ammeter- it was hot?
Here is my wiring- anything look out of place? A little puzzling to me.
Thanks,
Jim

Use a different ammeter with an ammeter adapter.

I have wooden bands. I have not driven my T in a couple of years and am getting it ready to drive. I’m sure the bands are pretty dry. Does one have to allow the car to sit and idle while the bands saturate themselves with oil before driving? How long would it take for the car to be running in idle before the bands were sufficiently oiled before...

One of my t's has wooden bands and I only get to drive it once a year. Never had trouble with them sitting, by the time you get the car started and ready to go they're well oiled.

Not anymore. My starter-less ‘13 starts on the third pull, regardless of temperature.

I recently acquired a used 5055 solid state cutout from Fun Projects - I'm assuming it's basically a diode with some sort of crowbar circuit to prevent a runaway condition. It seems to have a diode drop in the forward direction and a high resistance in the reverse direction. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to further test it to make...

After rehabbing 20+ armature cores today for a big order I'm working on, I looked up a name stamped on a couple of old generator armatures. They had clearly been rewound at some time in their life, but no time in the near past. These looked OLD.

It turns out that ARMEX was a stamp used by a company named...

The T armature was another T part that was copied like so many other parts were. Did the company mentioned do any starter amateurs? If not them probably someone did. Rewinding armatures wasn’t exactly making a reproduction but probably fall under rebuilt like rebuilders do today for water pumps, short blocks and etc but I’m guessing. Ford started...

Make a stamping guide out of scrap angle iron or strap steel and drill mounting holes to mount guide using water inlet bolt holes. The following pictures of Ford assembly from around 1918-20 are taken from a Ford made movie on Model T assembly.
A guide made out of angle iron is exactly what I had in mind, even before you posted this.

Driving on a road where 50mph is allowed, which is the case on almost all the roads connecting villages, is not very convenient. In no time you collect quite a lot of vehicles behind you and when they start overtaking, it can be quite frightening. So I think of some kind of overdrive to be able to drive 45-50mph without overrevving the engine....

Has anyone, besides me, noticed that half of horns on 1913 and 14's have the horn mounted upside down? Look a Rootlieb's ad in the Model T Times for verification. All one has to do is look at a factory photo!
Last post
You thought right, bell down is correct.
Upside down and right side up is relative. If the horn is designed to be mounted with the bell down, then mounting it with the bell up is upside down , but if your reference is prior horns were mounted bell up, than the 13-14 mounting looks upside down , but is right side up.
