Today I went to work on the 1923 touring that died from a shattered low drum. All I've done so far is take the magneto parts off the flywheel, clean up all the parts, and remove all the shredded band lining.

My real interest is the drive shaft spool that holds the pinion bearing assembly.
What would be used for flat washers or shims between the end of the Hyatt bearing and the pinion nut.

It's run from a cam on the throttle shaft similar to the one on an OF but the RF cam does not have a slope and just runs parallel to the rollers on the arm. A long time Model T-er and I are going to attempt to re-magnetize my 1915 magneto without removing the engine by using a compass and three 12 volt batteries, ...or maybe the voltage from his welder. Knock in the engine. At first it sounded like the center main. Removed one shim on each side. Then it sounded like number r cylinder. Pulled one shim each side.
Now it sou vs like number one cylinder.

Ideas as to why it seems to be migrating?

Why did Ford switch from 4 holes to 2 on the handbrake quadrant? Is there any design benefits from the change or dimension changes to the quadrant?

All bushing tolerances for the Model T Ford transmission are .002 for a new job and .005 for a repair job.
Wasn't assembly at the factory the only new job? Aren't all transmission overhauls now repair jobs?

I can not get the micrometer on the tail shaft to get an accurate measurement. I am told that the end of the shaft is normally square but mine has a rounded off face. Not much but maybe an 1/8 rounded end. I can get the micrometer into the shaft be not far beyond the rounded off end.

So I have a front wheel with a lot of side to side runout. I found a very nice looking wheel I want to try.... but it looks like the hub is out farther than my others and the spokes seem to be bowed the same way. I see no evidence of it shifting. The clear is not showing any marks.
Can I loosen the hub bolts and push it straight and retighten ?...

I recently purchased a little ‘26 coupé. Nice car, but the previous owner made certain “updates”.

Most notably he changed the electrical system over to 12 volt. Now, since this car has no magneto, the coils work splendidly on 12 volts, but I really worry about the way that the Bendix crashes into the ring gear when I press the starter button....

I saw a pic online of this neat homemade tire stretcher. It is made from cut down motorcycle rims attached to vintage car jacks. Your could easily make something similar using junk T rims too.

The rear side side windows on the 1924 Tudor are longer than the front windows and I only see the upper door window rubber for the fronts. Any leads on where I can get replacement rubber that is long enough?
