21 inch split rim a bit bowed, how to straighten it?

This 21 inch rim seems a bit pretzeled but otherwise ok. I've tried straightening it by hand but it still off. Is there an established way of straightening these in this axis?
Last post
It can be straightened with a press & lots of patience & thought.
A customer had a tire shop try to install new tires for him. They pretzelized one & gave up.
I didnt have an extra one to sell the guy. Nothing to loose. Straightening took over an hour to get right.
I started by getting the rim to lay flat, then tweeking it to round.

Agree. I think I will have to slope the front edge a little for the front fender. I think I am going to do the 3/4 inch thick. I re-measured and the interior of a running board to the edge is 3/4 inch and the wood blocks from Lang's are 3/4 inch. It is only the lip width that is 1 inch.

So I've been doing some more reading about clutch fingers. When I put the transmission together I adjusted the clutch fingers so that the clutch spring (I used a new one) was 2 inches all the way around. Now I learn that there is also a 3/4 inch measurement taken under the clutch spring as well. Would this be 3/4 if the spring is at 2 inches?

I think that the clutch disengages adequately because it doesn't creep forward.when warm.

I need help in clarifying the mounting of the cowl to the sides of the body on my 1924 Touring Car. Attached are photos of the Driver side and Passenger side cowl mounting holes. They are above where the two Stanchion Bolts go and coincide with a projection protruding from the sides of the body. My question is what size screws or bolts are used...

Looking at this photograph, you can see how the bracket on a 24 body is attached to the wood. At the point where the instrument panel and cowl and bracket meet, is where the rivet is located.

23 roadster headlight reflector

Do you have to twist and lock the reflector in place? It seems like the pressure between the spring and the headlight ring would hold it in place. It just seems very fragile to press against the spring and then trying to twist it in place. Thoughts? Thanks..Tommy
Last post
Yes, twist to lock the rectangular slots or notches against the flat flange of the headlamp bucket. The circular spring fingers provide tension to the reflector with its rope gasket to push against the rim and lens to prevent rattling or lost.
The reflector if left in the exit/entrance position will impede the rim rivets tabs from locking to the...

I posted on another of Ignatio's threads that a better process for treating rims with moving parts/clips is electro plated zinc. It is likely to be the original process used. Something in the electro plating process sees the interface between parts acting as a resistance to that plating, leaving the joint free of plating and still free to move....

Hi, I'm trying to get my great grandpa's 1926 Tudor running up to snuff and the Holley vaporizer has a lot of vacuum leaks so I ordered a rebuilt one from Blue Oval classics. I got it yesterday and while changing it out I noticed that on the rebuilt one, the air damper/dampner? was spring loaded somehow to about 25% open. From many of the forums I...

Yes, it would be the air flap. Its between the choke butterfly and the throttle butterfly. In the original I have it is free floating, but in the rebuilt one I just received it is spring loaded at about 25-30 percent open. Should i go ahead and try it or call them and see if they have an explanation why they rebuilt it this way?

In our RHD cars, the standard shifter is left handed anyway but it is still not much help because the throttle lever is also on the left of the steering quadrant. I recently acquired a 1914 touring car. This car was previously owed by a friend and member of our local club who took excellent care of it for the past 23 years but unfortunately died this past December following a bravely fought battle with cancer. As the new custodian of this T I am looking to maintain it to the high standard of the previous...

I always had flawless, perfect, see yourself in the brass of my 15. I thought I had cracked the secret to good brass without white or green ‘corners’. For 10 years folks would comment on how good my brass actually stayed!
Then he went off to college....😂😊😂

Got the motor back from the builder and I can't set the commutator rod to the timer that now looks like a football.
To make matters worse the motor won't fit with these 4 extra cylinders, any input would be great.

Many street rodder owned Model T's have Model T's that think they were really born as Chevy's . Model T's that self identify as Chevy's require small block Chevy engines. Have a good April Fools Day.

Where can I buy the tire mount talcum powder? Where I live, no one has even heard of talcum powder.

New flaps and tubes from Lang's come with oil on them. I wonder why and what kind of oil is it? So I did not use powder on them and they go in easily.
Might be something like silicon type lube used as a mold release.

Adding to Rob’s comments on the Model N in the third photo, another indicator that this is an early Model N is the radiator itself. The honeycomb style indicates that it is a “Climax Cooler”. Also note the radiator cap. It is much larger in diameter than later Model N caps, and threads into the neck instead of on to it. This is what is commonly...

There is a wood spacer strip that goes somewhere between the cowl, dash, and windshield. Does anyone know where?

Thanks all!
I’ve tried all the phone dry out methods. No joy. I believe those pics are still in there. Just need to find the right phone guru to get at them.
Meanwhile, back to the original issue. The wood strip in question is about an inch wide, 1/8” thick and the length of the cowl. I think it is meant as a cushion or spacer. The cowl flange...

Hi allan, no the holes are ruff cast, and has a tapper. No sign that it had a spreader bar, but bumper would have acted like that. The adjustable bumper irons are spring loaded and have a solid square block on the end with two bolts to attach bumper. If they were more brass friendly, i would use them😀

I bought a 1922 engine block at Chickasha this year entirely because it had two rather interesting features. This post will cover the first point of interest – it has a casting date. The CD version of Bruce McCauley’s “Model T Ford Encyclopedia” has a list of engine numbers and their corresponding casting dates likely compiled from owner’s cars...

It is correct that Made in Canada Model T engine blocks used casting dates until the end. The block in question is a Made in USA block - you will see the entire left side of the block in my Part 2 in a few days. Remember, Canadian block serial numbers start with a C .
While briefly on the subject of Canadian blocks, I also have an early 1922...

I planned on replacing the entire drain assembly on the fuel tank, but too much force required without movement, and I didn't want to twist it off in the tank. Now I just want to replace the small sediment bulb drain on the valve. It is tight also. Do these have a habit of twisting off in the valve, or will it break loose with some more force?...

The spring should be stout! The spring is what holds the taper valve tight to the taper body of the petcock or sediment bulb. To take mine apart, gently placed the petcock body between the bench vise jaws, and compress the washer on the face of the spring to get out the cotter. Install the reverse, works for me!

T chassis w/ hydraulic brakes on the rear. Front radius rods look a little short to me, and the early spring perches on the 26 rear end make for an interesting rear spring drop. Not sure how $56K US asking price will work out for the seller but. . . . . .

I suppose another way of explaining it is as long as the Bronze Fork inside the transmission isn’t loaded up trying to

For some reason the 25 T closed cars parts are not as available as early/late vintage. It would be interesting to understand if they are soooo different from 24 and /or 26. A simple example is the rubber mat. The only availability seems to be carpet!! Hinge pins--through 24 closed cars and then 26-27. I would like to replace the rubber bumpers...

Hi Dick,
The enclosed cars came from the factory with carpet. The open cars had rubber mats. That is why you don't find rubber mats offered by any of the vendors for the coupe or any of the sedans (Centerdoor, Tudor, and Fordor).
Although Ford sold the enclosed cars with carpet only, they DID offer a rubber mat for the coupe.
The January...

Last post
The hole must be centered between the side rails and also centered in the cross member from front to back of the cross member to make the spring fit properly. Another problem might exist. That would be the frame sag in the center or bent from square to parallelogram. So you need to measure diagonally from same point on right rear to left front and...

The old Ford plate glass was 3/16 . The new flat safety glass I had custom cut is listed as 1/4 , but double check by measuring the actual glass you have and the glass you purchase. You don't go to nearly enough auctions if you had to go buy a cold chisel. Glad it worked. The drill press down pressure is the trick.
I should have said if you have the old seat out you can easily grind it to fit the tapered slots, chuck up the tool in your drill press, down pressure and a wrench and it will come right out.
I don't have time...
