Crazy question, just curious after I get done with my T model restoration, all I have to store her under is a metal carport with open sides and back. My car is a touring and I do fear for the wood. Anybody store in a similar situation? I'm in East Tennessee as well mild to minor winters and mild summers. Thanks

A few things about storing in a carport. If you have strong winds, it will get blasted by the wind. And if you use a car cover, the wind will whip it around against the paint, so if you are expecting strong winds, remove the cover. Rich, I debated doing anything to the top as you have to be 7 feet plus just to see it unless you use a ladder. I was just going to use it on fair weather days but in Florida a fair weather day can turn into a downpour in a flash and why have a closed car if you can't use it in foul weather!

It depends on the conditions of use and the quality of maintenance (or lack thereof). Just guessing, but most fully used Model Ts in rural areas probably saw five to eight years of continuous...

Using a flathead V8 oil pump. To alleviate any confusion about oiling the transmission, the transmission shaft has a hole down the center and a side hole and is fed from the rear main bearing. At the beginning of December, a 16', green/blue covered car trailer with a 1915 Model T Roadster inside was stolen from the Golden CO area, from a former member (Paul Walter's) house.. his daughters are devastated!

My question: Reading up on the job in the Ford Service manual (p.175), there is a special tool shown for pressing the races into the hub - a Bearing Cup...

Sometime ago I posted a few questions about the setting and the repair of a few (4) Kingston Coils.

In the attachement a few photos of the job on the coils.
Two of the four get other high tension coils. There for I took good coils out of regular FORD coil with bad wood.
All four coil get new points and new capacitors.

Hi i am in australia i have a 1925 coup the body i imported from the usa .
I had all the mechanicals here.
I have found out the body was built by briggs.

My question is is there a way to find out who it was sold to when new.

I have the body number that briggs put on it but no original engine number

The body number is 388651B

You are probably right as to year of car. If it has the wood door frames it’s probably not a 25.
The engine that you got along with the other parts might be the original engine and a late 23.

FL is fairly easy for antique and custom car registrations, of course a title from previous owner is needed, or a current registration from a non-title state. The motor number is recognized as the 'VIN or vehicle id number.

And if you have a FL titled antique car, and need to change the engine, it is a self-attested form to change the engine...

I need to run my throttle rod through the cylinders but the casting webbing is solid there. However there is a recessed portion about 1 squared that seems like it was made to be easily knocked out.. can I drill through it or drill and chisel that area to pass my throttle rod? I've read that it was on this date that Ford launched the first moving assembly line, thus reducing the production time for a Model T from 12 hours to 2.5 hours. This, IMHO, was a most significant change that altered a lot more than the time it took to build a car.

Saw a video removing a starter from a car with magneto. They removed the Bendix first and then the starter. They said you should remove the Bendix before removing the starter in a car with a magneto. My car came with an Atwater Kent distributor. Would I be safe to just remove the complete starter from my car?

I'm a new T owner and I'm wondering if someone can tell/show me the differences between metal wheel rims I have a 26 and 27 and need spare tires to mount on the rear. What is the difference between 21 inch, 30 inch and 30 1/2 inch; between non-demountable and demountable and clincher rims?

I purchased a headlight assembly and it looked like it had never been opened. The bulb has Ford H print on the glass which I have never seen. Just curious, is this a repo bulb or could this be period?

Also the bulb adjustment screw has a cotter pin. Not sure if the repos have cotter pins?

I’m putting wire wheels on my 1924 touring. Does anyone have a good way to mount the spare on the back? I guess I could use a 27 carrier. Has anyone converted a wood wheel carrier to a wire wheel that might share a photo? Maybe I’m just over thinking this.

The bracket is not needed. That is just something the previous owner attached.

The wire wheel attaches to the gooseneck in the lower picture. No other parts needed. There originally were three thin
nuts to attach the wheel. I just used two extra lugnuts and the locking lugnut to hold the masterlock.

I am currently installing a new top on a 20 touring. So far I have the pads and the straps installed. I am in the process of stitching the pads, then will install the windbreaker and the rear panel and finally the top.

Have any of you developed a tie down system for a Model T for an enclosed trailer that works without getting in the front of the trailer. A friend has a 14 ft enclosed with a remote controlled winch. I just wanted to share my “ new ” 3-piece Bendix cover that I just got. It only has a small dent in it that needs to be straightened out. After I get around to doing that I will have to send it out to get zinc plated.

Definitely not aftermarket. The 3 piece cover was only used from late December of 1918 until mid-April of 1919. Not a rare part, but also not a common part either.

The ones shown above with the top down slots cut in them, could be from the firewall that has slipped down and was riding on them. That would be approx where the edge would be. I looked at the ones on my 25, the back end is hidden by the firewall and body so can's see much except a little bit of the end sticking out past the body.

How to adapt early fender hangers to a 25-27 frame pictured with the frame turned upside down? The second picture is an early front hanger with the bottom hole aligned to the frame hole. I can possibly weld a washer or 2 into the hole to close it up and re-drill it. Is the bottom hole for the hangar in the correct position? This is a labor of love...

Thanks for the tip, it looks like I only have to drill 2 holes, no welding. :D

Normally the bottom hole in the fender bracket is lined up with the hole in the front crossmember, that hole being in line with the radiator stud mounting hole in the top of the rail.

Last week i went in for a cardiac stress test. The nurse hooked me up to all the sensors and looked at my EKG. Stress test cancelled. Turned out I have an arrhythmia. The upper chambers of my heart were working fine The lower chambers were beating on every other signal, pulse 38 bpm. Ignition problem.

So, yesterday I had a pacemaker installed....

In the Nov/Dec issue of Model T Times Dan Treace mentions an accessory ratchet pawl spring. Is this available or do you need to make one? Is it made from a commercially available spring? Thanks all.

The handbrake lever should ALWAYS be squeezed when the brake is applied, no matter how stiff the spring is, or isn't. Same thing goes for any other similar type of ratchet type of system. Learned that by being around farm equipment over 60 years ago. Just makes sense. Dave

Getting to learn to drive you T is challenging enough, but when your key is loose in the coil box and falls out on the bumps.. its even harder! Haha. Looking for suggestions on how to make the coil box key hole friction fit have more friction.

What is inside the cowl area between the firewall and the windshield pillar to attach the inner upholstery panel to?

I'm specifically referring to the area where the dashboard is to the rear of the firewall that you would attach to.

Thank you. You have confirmed what I suspected all along. There is nothing for the top of the kick panel to attach to. It only attaches in three places: Pillar, Floorboard riser assembly and the cowl frame assembly.

I bought a rim to use in building a new rear wheel and came across this stamping. I know what the 30 x 3 1/2 means but does the other tell anything about it's origins?

Fellows - the wheel in question has the cutouts to accommodate Hayes rims. If I were home I'd take a picture - as it is, I think I will photo-document the wheel now that (thanks to you) I know it's history.

When I bought my car no two wheels were the same. I've been trying to remedy that problem so that at least the fronts and rears match....

Hi, I have a Model A Ooogah horn. I have to frequently turn the adjusting screw on the back to make it work. Is there a way to fix it so that it works most of the time?

A screw was loose on the back side of the wire hookup. I tightened it up and it works a lot better now, thanks all!

Good advice Allen. Especially if you have large cylinder bores. My 27 is bored .080 OS and I beveled the pistons to achieve clearance on a Ricardo head.

Noticed the main bow for the top on my '27 touring is bent at the joint following the final tour of the year. The car had sat for several years before I took position last year. So the joints are very stiff and difficult to move
My thought are to take a piece of angle clamp it to the bow and then use another to pull the bow to the angle. Better...

Now that the car is running well, and the days are shorter (**sigh**) .... I'd like to install a dash light. My switch/ammeter panel has 3 holes ... looks like 2 were likely screw/small bolt holes for mounting, and the middle for a wire. I'll be looking for one, and if need to, order a new one.

I have LEDs for all the other lights ... head...

I had one of those illuminated ammeters from Fun Projects. Just found it the other day. Apparently, I bought it in 2016! I never put it in, and just installed am ammeter look-alike that is really a speedometer, from John Regan. Works great! But .... It doesn't have a light.

I do want something I can see motlre than just the meter, though.

Occasionally you see people on FB post a video of starting up an engine they've been working on. But they haven't installed the radiator yet and there's no coolant. It makes me cringe. How long can you do that before the damage starts?

What size replacement cast iron pistons were available from ford back in the day? I pulled these from my 27 TT engines while back and just got around to taking the rods off them when I noticed that they were oversized. My 3-4” micrometer is out of commission at the moment and I can’t tell if these are 0.025” or 0.0025” oversized. Someone educate...
