I'm putting my transmission back together and gave an Almost new slow pedal clevis connector. The 'foot' of the connector that goes through the arm on the slow pedal is quite loose. The connector foot isn't worn at all, so assume the hole it goes into is wallered out a bit. How much is too much? Wish I had taken a short video of it. I know this...

Carb was rebuild a couple years ago. Runs great pulling hills but idles a little rough. Is there a way to make it open more? Thank you

Keith, thanks for the tip, I'll pass that on to my friend. Running the screw threads over a cake of bees wax is also helpful when installing screws.

I presume this has been discussed before but I can't locate a thread. I see my throttle stop and lock screws are #8-36's on my Holley G carburetor. It looks like that is also the size used on some later Holleys. Has someone found a good source for these or are they re-tapping the arms with #8-32s? #8-36 is UNF which is pretty much obsolete now...

New 8-36 screws arrived today. These are cad plated and will work nicely in my Holley Carbs. All of my Model G's used 8-36 and all but a couple of NH's have them. I believe the 2 with 8-32's were rethreaded. A 2 screw Holley also has 8-36 but with filister heads. So I believe 36tpi was standard for Holley and 32tpi was what Kingston used. No one...

John and Ken, I can see both of your points, however, if the crank will turn at more than .020-.020, I think a turned crank would sell better, unless the buyer has the knowledge and machine to do it himself.

Model TT Rear Leaf Springs ... How many Leaves?

How many leaves are there in a Model TT rear leaf spring set up? The truck I have, has nine on each side. That seems like too much, because the leaves are very tightly compacted together under the cross member and there is no movement what so ever where they attach to the cross member. The leaves have been oiled and are not rusted together.

Our cars are Canadian sourced, and I have never seen spring leaves cut square across without having the corners clipped off. I can't recall any make having square ended springs. Many trailer springs are square cut though, and these could easily be substituted into a T assembly

Ford equipped the more expensive Coupe closed cars with a deck lid support but not the lower priced open cars....

Rob, As the model K was raced, was the car used in the races a special , or was it one that came directly off the production line. Reason I ask, the post I presented from India indicated that the American cars used in races were not what a customer could purchase. The race cars, such as the Model K, were carefully built to compete as a stock car?

I have seen this subject discussed here in the past, but was surprised at how yellow a white tire can get, upon seeing the attached photo in another thread.
Is there a way through bleaching, scrubbing, or some other method, to return white rubber tires to their original bright white color? How about the spray-on white-wall tire cleaners available...
Last post
The white tires I’ve seen on early cars such as a T weren’t really white but more of a Ivory color. Were they really ‘white‘ when new like the whitewall tires of the 50’s? I don’t think so but just asking.

I have top bows that are new repo's.
The ends are squared that need to be sanded to fit the irons.
The question is, is there a certain length that goes into the iron or do I just arbitrate 6 inches or so.

Several years ago i replaced the window channels in my 27 Tudor doors. I found the channel sold by the vendors was too narrow to fit the existing safety glass. A news article from the India circa 1910 about the construction of specials that are to be stock and compete in races. 1913 was the last of the 2 piece driveshafts, and in 1914 the ball and radius rod connection are one piece, this allows the bushing to move further forward to between the radius rod mounting lugs. This places the bushings support nearer to the U-Joint. Also worth mentioning is the U-joint pin plugs changed in 1918 from the dome type typically...

All of those bushings I've seen have that slot in them, I even asked the question of Lang's as to what it was for, the response was to clear the woodruff key , which is why I'm showing it. Do you know if Ford's original bushing had that slot in it or not?

Removing Rust from Manifold
Replies: 9
by
BLB27 » Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:58 pm
First post
I plan to soak the manifold in Krud Kutter-Must for Rust to remove rust inside. The product is phosphoric acid, will it damage the cast iron? I have been using it on steel and it really works.
Last post
Cast Iron is rather porous, and will hold the acid in the pores, leading to its degradation.
As for Metal-Prep and other products, read about your paint first, as some work better on plain untreated steel/metal (DP Epoxy primers are one example). I would use glass-beading on the manifold with careful cleaning afterwards.

I'm reassembling my engine and about ready to put the head on. Current head bolts have a 3 1/4 shank. The shallowest head bolt hole in the head is 15/16 deep.
If I put a head bolt in the old head, with no washer, I'm left with 9/16 to go into the head .. and that's with no gasket in place. With my almost NOS WH head, I am left with only 17/32 ....

Kevlar vs. Cotton, How To Tell The Difference?

I have a set of transmission bands that were taken out of a running car that stiil look usable. I was told that one of the three bands is a Kevlar band and the other two are cotton. since ther is no name on the bands that I can see as they are installed on the metal bands, how does one tell the difference? What do you look for?
Last post
I have used Kevlar bands from right back in the days of Custom Friction Company composite bands with the cotton and later synthetic backing. The only trouble I had with those was drilling the countersinks for the rivets heads in the linings. Then came the woven Kevlar linings which are fitted to the bands in exactly the same way as Scandinava/Ford...

I have a SSECO HCCT that I am having troubles getting the spark to jump the ring. It has a rebuilt Weston meter on it and will fire the coil and make the meter work, but it will not spark on the spark ring. By hooking up a test light to ground and then touching the spark ring it will 'spark' the test light. This is a SSECO HCCT, but the spark ring...

I removed the fan assembly from my 1927 coupe. The surface area where the hose fits over is corroded. Will this result in leakage when the new hose is installed? Another question: The other parts of the assembly look good. If I reuse it, how likely is it that some grease will leak and make a mess? Maybe I should upgrade the whole unit as available...

Clean the surface by bead blast or sand blast and lay a coating of JB Weld on the pitted area. When cured, sand down to surface and you will be good for years. JB Weld can be used to surface deep pitted sheet metal. I have used it with great success many times. Ken

Brad, thanks for the reply. I will give you a call tomorrow (Monday). And yes I would very much like to see some photos under the seat in someone’s closed cab. Also photos of the underside of the cab around the gas tank to see what the panels look like. Thanks! Anyone else?

My clutch pedal cam is worn way too much and I need to change it. It is a cast iron hogshead with starter. Norman is correct. On LHD cars, the two components can be bought separately. On our RHD cars the adjustment is internal and the pedal ramp needs to be built up. Sorry for the confusion.

If you decide to buy new axle shafts from Chaffin's, ask them if they have a good set of side gears that they can press onto the new shafts for you before they ship them to you. Saves you the hassle of pressing them on yourself. :)

I use 265 cubic inch small block Chevy pistons in my T. They are 3.75 inch bore pistons with off-center wrist pins giving more torque at low RPM. Minor machining required to the piston crown to the same shape as T pistons and bronze bushings to be made to compensate for smaller wrist pin size. The 265 cid engine was introduced in 1955 for the...

William, I neglected to describe removing the donor piece from its column. If you wire buff the tabs it should reveal the dimples of the spot welds. If you drill these dimples, the channel will come off with the holes needed for mig welding through. It would be difficult to just break the spot welds while keeping the tabs in good enough shape to...
