Metal seat frame cutting my upholstery-looking for protection

The metal trim on the bottom of the seat spring has already cut through the upholstery fabric. I am planning on filing it down a bit, and then applying something so it does not continue. I think I am looking for something like this edge trim product, but I do not need $154 worth. Any suggestions? Another method? Thank you.

Cheaper than TRIM Lok
I like the idea of carpet - the exterior surface would be softer than these other edge products. This nay work too

Hi everyone,
I’m sure this has been asked heaps of times before, but I’m stumped. I’ve got a couple of issues and I’m sure they are connected.
The car’s a 1924 Touring set up to run on coils and fitted with a solenoid (not that this should matter, but it’s the only non original item). The coils all test okay on a HCCT.

They buzz if the key or face plate are tapped, so I'm not sure it's a voltage issue. I only use the battery to start the car when it's cold.
Anyone had this experience? Would replacing the inner contact lever address the issue? thoughts.....
Try doubling the battery voltage. You won't burn anything out because the magneto goes up to 30 volts.

Back curtain for 1923 runabout

Mark Osterman » Wed Sep 16, 2020 7:52 pm
First post
I am installing a Classtique top kit on my 1923 runabout. I opted for the additional (not factory) roll up back curtain. One problem is that the two straps that are to be tacked to the back bow will actually cover the two windows when the top is up and they hang down. I’m wondering if the window spacing is too far apart. Is there anyone out there...

When I install a rollup rear curtain on a later car, I move the straps out to the inside edge of the rear quarters.

Any place that sells individual pieces of wood? I'm just needing the curved piece of wood that goes around the top back of a 1923 touring. The rest of my wood is fine. Thanks

That bent rail is best made from steam bent timber to avoid the short grain across a cut curve. You can do it yourself by laminating strips of plywood using the body as your former.
Hope this helps.

You are absolutely correct John. Usually the rim is drilled for the correct Ford position for the valve stem hole, rather than the wheel felloe. We have a set of 4 on my son's 10 cwt Duncan and Fraser lorry. They are 1/4 wider than T rims, but that suits the 4.40 x 23 oversize tyres we have on it.

If your radiator is an original or and old recore you can spend time and money and still have a radiator that gets hot and boils over. It might get a little better after a clean up but it still won’t be like it should be. You can fill the radiator to the level of the core and that may help some but it’s still will get hot.

There have been a few times that this has been mentioned in this web site, so I ran across this case and took some pictures of it. There are four pictures of drive shaft splined ends and couplings for a Model TT truck drive shaft. One end is an early drive shaft that came off a Model TT rear end. The early rear end in one from 1918 rear end that...

Thanks for the reply Steven. I suppose there are some secrets these old girls are just not going to give up. I've read most of the posts on this forum about TT rear ends, including the discussions about the numbers on the clamshells. My theory is that Ford began production of the TT intending to serialize the trucks via the rear ends but soon...

How difficult/expensive is it to cosmetically fix something like this repair solder weld on a brass radiator?
Last post
Solder is softer than brass, so judicious use of a buffing wheel with rubbing compound will slowly remove the solder. In any event, all that excess solder on the surface is doing nothing, what counts is the solder in the crack, itself, so you can polish away the external excess without damage to the repair if the soldering was done correctly.

You can do what Erik says or leave the tires on and just put the wheels on and on a flat surface such as a concrete floor, take a square between the floor and the wheel. Leave enough room for the tire, but measure the distance between the rim and the square at several places. It is not unusual to be off a bit. I will use a wheel which is less than...

First post here from a brand new T owner - just purchased in July. Has anyone ever seen an oil leak coming from the exhaust manifold? Its a 1921 Roadster Pickup conversion with 1924 engine that was supposed to be redone. Noticed an oil leak on the engine right side, thought it was coming from the breather, but after I cleaned it up, the oil is...

when the connecting rod goes into the pan, it throws oil up in the cylinder. The faster you go, the more oil is thrown up. If the rings are good, you shouldn't have oil going all the way up into the top of the cylinder. If the rings are new, there is a possibility, all the ends of the rings line up with each other and that would cause it to get...

When I receive new points from a vendor do they need to be cleaned in any way or prepped in any way before they are installed?

Ask the vendor and then post their answer here.

13T,
The 13T hit the road for the first time in a decade today!
My grandpa, Roger Hull, passed the 13T to me and it was a blessing because of the countless memories I had with him and the T. He took that T on all sorts of adventures, tours, jamborees, etc. She wasn’t a beauty queen but she always got the job done. He loved the MTFCA community...

The clutch pedal on my 26 has excessive wear on the cam. I'm building up the surface with weld and then filing it to shape.
Does anyone know what the ramp angle should be on these cams?
The photos are as found when removed from the hogshead.

Dan,
Thanks for the two pieces of information. How to find the factory number was the piece that I was missing. I see that the Model Aers have an online search index, I wonder what it would take to get the T index online or even better, the DWG online to purchase? I think I will broach that with the HF and see if I can get some interest.

Can any of you smart members help identify the year of this T Touring? The couple sitting on the running board are my maternal grandparents before they were married. They were married in 1920. The fellow in the driver's seat is my grandfather's older brother. Chaperone maybe?

The position of the windshield hinge appeared in later 1917. The bow sockets look square which along with the previous comments would make it 1918 or non-starter 1919 (maybe :D )

Anyone else have the exhaust deflector sold by Lang's installed on their T? I installed one with my new muffler/pipe because the idea of reducing the amount of black soot accumulating on the spare tire+license plate+rear of the car was too appealing to pass up given the price of the mod, but the resulting arrangement has my rear differential/rear...

My Holden bodied Tarrant tourer has the fuel tank hanging under the spare tyre carrier at the back, so I have even more to keep clean. I welded an extension onto the rear muffler end. It hangs vertically, low enough to clear the back axle and everything else. It looks a bit like the dangly bit under a stallion, but it does a really good job....

I would imagine/hope that every T driver has this wrench in their tool kit in the car. I knew that it was for the spark plugs and nuts for my demountable wheels, but since I've been restoring my 15 runabout I've come to realize how useful it is for other areas of the car. I even used it today to remove the gascolator from the bottom of my gas tank...

Wjen reassembling a transmission after a rebuild, is it just personal preference to use oil vs assembly grease or bearing saver on the bushings and mating surfaces? Maybe potential long sit time for he parts warrants a smear of grease?
Last post
As this will 'hopefully' just be a week or two before it's assymbled and installed on the car, I'll just go with regular or transmission fluid so everything has a smear of oil.

When doing research on rebuilding my transmission, I read a reference to a home brew method to concentrically grind tripke gear pins. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Last post
Ford Service Bulletin, Nov. 1924 describes the use of the 'AR' part suffix triple pin, as opposed to the factory pin which can't be reused if punched out as the hole in the flywheel is now enlarged slightly.

I recently acquired this 5Z314 clutch drum puller at an estate sale of an elderly Model T enthusiast.

It came with two 3/8 bolts and corresponding castle nuts as shown in the photos.
However, these bolts are too small for the threaded holes in the puller.
The threaded holes...

Usually the extreme tightness is caused by a burr that was thrown up during assembly. I've found that to be the case on about 1/3 of the transmissions I've worked on. Nearly all of the drums in this scenario get wrecked during pulling; it's smart to be sure you have a good one on hand as a replcement before you start.
Incidentally, my Ford puller...

Kathy, that sounds exactly like the policy I have on all my T's. With the company with which I am insured, that is normal for ollector/historical vehicles. there is no extra charge, so it must be built into the premium. It is good to know that someone offers this benefit.
