Dont the early steering column shafts have a different steering ratio so the pins are in a different location or are the gears just a differnt size for the later columns?

I loved the idea of the hub cap force amplifier for removal of a hot radiator cap. I watched the video too! I would caution everyone concerning reaching across the steam path for removal of the cap. On the recent T towing thread many folks commented about removing key so you don't lose it. Having some near misses ourselves, my father has started affixing our keys to the firewall with a length of chain. Enough slack to allow for use. And solid enough to prevent unintentional loss or the key 'walking' away once parked. A modest suggestion for...

Here is a little free information regarding Stromberg OF carburetors.
Not all OF's were for Model T's. There was also a version made for Overland cars. The major differences are:
1. The mounting holes are slightly further apart to fit the Overland manifold.
2. The mounting holes are not threaded as the T version of the OF is, they are are...

Mark, I just avoid them. I have so many OF bodies that need parts I spend time on those.

Tim, the RFs are great carbs, I just wish they hadn't used crappy Aluminum to make them. The brass welds to the Al and they can be impossible to get apart....

I agree with you on the red for the acetylene gas hose.
If you look at the last photo I posted, the gas line hoses appear

Model T oil pressure tech question?

First post
Recently acquired a Model T Speedster. It has an aftermarket oil pressure system. Don't have a clue about the Builder.
I started it and zero oil pressure to the gauge. Oil is as supposed to be, upper petcock. The pump and filter are above the Model T sump could it needed to be primed? 3.jpg

Share some answers to my original question.
Drained the oil. Then pulled the filter (There is a bolt on top that drops the filter housing). It was seriously clogged with crud. Cleaned the housing inside and out. Filled the housing with fresh oil, then added fresh oil Non-Detergent to the engine.
Pulled one of the oil lines that feed the engine...

How many different stock T wheels are there? Looking through videos and have counted at least three including the wire ones.

There were a few different wheels used throughout production. First in 1909 you had the very skinny spoke wood felloe wheels with the smaller diameter hubs. Next you still had fairly skinny spokes in 1911 with the larger diameter hubs. Around 1913 the spokes got a little larger in diameter and I think the felloe got a little thicker so I would...

I think a cutoff touring made into a pickup is very cool! Mainly because that was what was done back in the day to do what was needed to be done. Same thing with tractor conversions, I've always wanted one. Dave

“Wearing in” anything like this is essentially going to be displacing or wearing off metal that is an interference fit. Does that “worn away” metal just disappear? NO! Luke,
Thank you! That’s exactly what I need. Thanks for including the reference dimensions back to the mounts.
I appreciate you making the journey to measure your car.
Mark, thanks for the 25.4 reminder. I still have my metric scales from the Ford ERIKA project and speak millimeter fairly well.

Ok, silly me I thought that there were only 2 variations of the drive shaft (ha,ha,ha) every time I get to thinking something is going to be breeze, I get pulled up short with a wrinkle....or 2.
There is an inside hardened race that is pressed onto the drive shaft for the Roller Bearing that doesn't seem to appear until 1911, so my question is,...

Stephen, was this babbit bearing cast into the spool? or were there 2 of them and pressed in for both sides? How was it lubricated (babbit requires lubrication)? Was there a grease cup on top where the locating plug/pin is now, or an oiler? Or did they rely upon the differential juice to splash up and lub it that way?
Thanks Larry, that's what I...

I was on my way home yesterday thinking it was a nice day for a drive in a 106 year old car. Then I got to thinking, the majority of the car is from 1914, but I assembled it over many years. I bought a frame and axles for $75 when I was 14 and shortly thereafter found an engine, a 1914. Now it was an original engine and aluminum hogshead, but I...

Good point Rich E.
After a while a lot of people could go out and buy a nice T. But also a lot of people wouldn’t have the time or money and maybe not even enough nohow to build one up from parts.

Trying to finish up this 11 torpedo roadster I have a new gas tank bought 25 years ago. Right in the center of the the end it has a pin hole or maybe a little bit bigger than a pin hole leak. It is about 1/16 in diameter. I found it when I have removed the paint. The gas has been out of the tank now for 48 hours. Looking for suggestions on the...

One time I had a tank with a punch hole in it and a guy cross town said he could fix it. Just pull it off and take it to him, he'd need maybe 5 minutes..
I was intrigued.
He sets it up, takes a swat at it with his air sander...
Grabs something that looks like a gray Tootsie Roll and tears off a chunk...
Mushes it in the hole and then took his...

I have a pinion gear with one tooth gouge on it pictured. I wonder how it happened? I don't actually need it because I am changing to a higher ratio of 3:1 but I would rather not just throw it away. It is otherwise good. Other than put it in the box of bad parts what can I do with it?

It would be immodest for me to divulge.

Just for your information, the picture shows a 10 tooth pinion and a 40 tooth crown gear, a 11 tooth pinion and 40 tooth crown gear, and finally a 13 tooth pinion and 39 tooth crown gear. The 13:39 is going into hay wagon to speedster project.

With a 3-1 gearing you can get a little more top speed with the Ruckstell and might be good in flat country. We have quite a few hills here in the San Diego area and a few years ago we had a national tour here. It was headquartered in Barona, an Indian Reservation which has a big hotel. In order to get there you had to climb a grade for about 10...

I personally would install an accessory wishbone brace instead of using a later wishbone with the earlier perches. As has been mentioned before, the holes in the wishbone are tapered and will not accept a flat nut. The earlier perches won't stick through enough to get the full nut on and you wouldn't be able to use cotter pins. With a wishbone...
