Installing running board support rods

Do you bow the support rod to install them?
Last post
Bob, I try to fit them as best I can, and note how much more I need to be able to get them into place. Then I use a die to add that much thread to one end. This enables that end to go further through the eye and lets me fit the other end. Purists might not appreciate the extra bit of thread.

I know my T was brewster green (varnish) and have been told the fenders were also green. But I am painting the fenders, splash shields and running boards black and only the body brewster green. Safest way to haul a coupe on an open trailer

A friend of mine is hauling a '23 Coupe from Texas to Michigan. He'll be using a open car hauler. His question is whether it would be easier on the car to haul it facing forward or backwards on the trailer? It has a sunshade on the front that doesn't look too substantial for 70-75 mph winds. I also wonder about the fenders flapping. Any...

In 2001, I hauled my ‘26 coupe on a U-Haul open trailer from York, Maine to Bartow, Florida. I winched it on with an electric winch with the front facing forward and tied down the wheels with the webbed wheel tie downs as well as cable come along on each axle for redundancy. Not too tight as a come-along can damage the axles. I removed the hood...

I have run one like it. This style does line up with the Ford hot air pipe. The valve at the bowl is an enriching needle for starting or as needed for richer mixture. As far as performance, my OP is they mirror the Strombergs but not as common.

Magnets are helpful in the garage too. Have a magnetic bowl to hold nuts and bolts from rolling off the bench. And one of those magnetic sweepers on a stick to find stuff dropped on the floor!

Can anyone recommend a battery charger that will last? I had one for 30 years, it finally died. The last two I bought didn’t even last a full year.
Last post
Look for one of the new ones that has an anti-sulfation or Recondition feature.
Repeated heavy discharges and recharges will kill a battery that is not made for them, very quickly.
Take a look at the CTEK brand. Made in Sweden, and has excellent reviews.
I bought a CTEK one for my motorcycle batteries, and now I use it instead of my regular...

From the MotorCities National Heritage Area FB page today:
On July 27, 1917, Ford Motor Company introduced its first truck, the Model TT.
At the time, most trucks were modified cars. Henry Ford realized he could profit from pickup trucks, so he took his Model T and lengthened the chassis, stiffened the suspension and changed the gear ratios....
Last post
The vehicle in which the girls are loaded does not appear to have the heavier rear wheels of a TT. To my eyes it looks like a car chassis, with an extension, perhaps to accommodate an accessory transmission, and this allows for an extended body to boot. I was under the impression that the first TT's were 1918 models.

If it starts well cold then it's probably not a manifold leak (which would give a lean mix). I suspect that the needle valve in the carb is leaking a little or the float is set too high causing a rich mixture, or the mixture adjustment is too far open.

While you're at it, take an old ring gear and bolt it down with the teeth up.
I cut a hole in my bench top but you can also just bolt it over the edge of your bench.
Handy as a pocket in a shirt for holding the assembly, removing ring bolts etc, tightening them etc etc.

Ur right on Rich!! I finally saw one pic of the earlier version where the lip had that slight outward flare. Rare as hens teeth it seems to find. Just as the correct front fender irons are. I bet the majority of '13s have the later version due to all the bang ups these poor cars went through, and since that style was so limited, the only option...

I have a speedster with the column mounted monocle, but the passenger has nothing. I was wondering if anyone had made any type of double monocle arrangement (like a swing up mounted to the steering column). Any ideas?
Last post
This double windshield setup was on the speedster when I bought it, so I am not certain what was used to make the passenger side. I figure its probably a converted windwing, more for looks than function, because it doesn't provide a whole lot of wind deflection for the passenger.

Oil pressure system question
by
Catbird » Mon Jul 27, 2020 7:21 am
Just purchased a 1927 Speedster with an oil pressure system. I have a few Model Ts, but my first with this system.
When I open the upper petcock a quantity of oil pours out. I notice that the oil filter in my car is higher than the petcock.
Is there any difference in checking oil level than a T that does not have a pressurized system?...

We took the Speedster out the other night to see if we could see the comet. We just caught the tip of the crescent moon setting on Loveland Peak. This was around 11:30 pm. It doesn't get really dark around here until near midnight. Didn't find it but it was a nice night to be out in an open car.

I completely missed that Charley. Also the front fender irons are the eyelet type to hook the top straps to.

Over the course of the last three years I have worn out two tires on the right front wheel of my 26 coupe. In this time I drove the car maybe 2,000 miles. The other three tires are still completely fine with plenty of life left. The right front wheel has a slight bit more wobble in it than the other three, about 1/4 . Maybe this is my issue? I...

One very quick way to check out the entire alignment of the frame and axles would be to measure from center of the front spindle bolt at the bottom of the axle to a point on the opposite rear side. Such a place as the bolt where the rear radius rod bolts to the rear backing plate. Then measure in the exact same manor the opposite side. The...

Hello,
after a while i am back in the forum. I am working at my spareengine. I have 2 Hogshead here and how can i see if they are for the larger brake drum?
Is there a measurement between the pedals?
What parts do i need to restore a complete Hogshead incl. pedals?
Thanks a lot and greetings from germany
Stay healthy.

MAC's isn't the only source for the parts you may need - they just had the best diagram. Prices vary by supplier (Mac's, Langs, Snyders, Bob's, S&J, Chaffins, etc). Good '26 Slow Speed & Reverse pedals may be difficult to find if needed, Brake pedals are more common as some are replaced with ones needed for outside brake systems like Rocky...

It begins. I have it in the 20 ton arbor press with some force on it. I've read the guides. I am not in that big of a hurry. Anything I can/should do to facilitate the gear removal? Heat it? I am not likely to reuse these axles as the key ways are worn out.

You know that if you teach a man to fish then give him a 20 ton arbor press he will spend 2 days smushing random things before getting down to business.
Similarly, if you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for a day. If you set that man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.

I spoke to Steve at Lang’s and they have none in stock and little chance of new stock. They have some of the tooling but they believe it’s incomplete.
So does anyone have details of the design so I could have a set fabricated. I looked at the picture on the Lang’s web site and I’m not quite...

There is a gap between the frame and the engine support arms. Is this acceptable or might the weight of the engine pull down the frame?
The best I can measure, the engine support frame hole is 21.5 on center.
There is a block of wood inside the frame rail. And their is a bolt through the side rail, through the wood and into the arm.

Jim: The single stop and bumper in the pic is pretty beat up, the coupe had a 1943 plate on it when I got it in 1967. I think the T spent its life on gravel roads in central Wisconsin.

Between #256 & #265 , the company started installing a side door. This in the summer of 1922, so yours is a very early production body, Bob. When the doors were added, there were several versions. The size and construction differed. This from info supplied by Jarvis Erickson years ago. He may have pinned down the serial number even more by now....

It's a very interesting carb for that early. I couldn't see it well on my phone, that glass float bowl may interchange with some of the early Stromberg Glass bowls.

I wanted to save a couple rusty transmissions from the dump. There may be some good parts there if I can get them apart. This week I spent building a pan that fits the profile so not as much penetrant will be needed. In this case I'm using ATF and lacquer thinner.

Get some glass fiber reinforced packing tape. It doesn't stretch. Carefully apply the tape on the flat part of the inside perimiter of the steel felloe next to the spokes. Cut the ends of the tape so they just touch. Remove tape and re-apply on a flat surface. Measure the length and divide by PI. (3.1416). That will give you the diameter.
