I asked this question several years ago and got several suggestions, but I didn't follow through and buy the tool at the time. Vaporizer fuel bowel vent (M) started leaking gas sitting not run in a couple of days in garage with fuel shut off. Does this indicate a float or needle valve issue?
I am inclined to remove the fuel bowl and clean the needle and seat. Am I on the right track?
Last post
Leaking vent repair went smooth. Removed the bowl and float, blew out the ball valve (thought I had the needle/seat type). Replaced the gasket and re-assembled. All appears well.
Drained the fuel tank, removed the shut off valve and found a couple large pieces of debris in the fuel tank blocking fuel to the inlet valve. Removed the debris and...

I have a 1923 Pick UP that started life as a Touring Car. The back seat was cut off and a bed was put on. I want to maintain the Pick Up configuration and put a top on. There aren’t any places to attach top irons on the seat. Do I need to fabricate something? Can I use a standard Roadster top? I would appreciate any suggestions.

I too have a 26 Ford and have wondered about this. Guys: I am looking to make some special bushings for piston pins also know as wrist pins. What kind of bronze is best to use? What I found on an other forum talked about a CA954 or C95400. They are same thing. Any input would be nice. How does it machine would be helpful too.
No these can not be store brought bushings. Thanks Dan
Last post
CDA954 is aluminum bronze and is probably overkill for anything but the most severe pin bushing application. It would help to know what the piston material is that you need these bushing for. The Ford cast iron pin bushings are probably something close to phosphor bronze.

I relined the transmission Bands for my 1919 non starter touring. It is the first time I have ever done this. I have the engine out and it is on an engine stand. The bands are the removable ear type. How much for a set of the narrow original Ford bands with removable ears. If possible I would like a set that was relined, if not I still would be interested, if pricing is reasonable. Reply by e-mail to: wgoodheart@tds.net

Paint or powdercoat?
Thanks,

The last time I took a wheel in to be powder coated they hung it by a thin wire around the center so of course the powder coat did not stick in that area. I had to paint it. They also coated the part that fits on the hub and I had to sand that down almost back to bare metal so the wheel would fit correctly on the hub. Too bad they really did a...

I want to have some runningboard boxes made and cover them with black covers that snap on. I think the original ones were covered in Fabrokoid. This is that black faux leather stuff that you have all probably seen on trunks etc that is usually shrunken and cracked.
I suppose the closest modern material would just be long grain top material?

Here are some images of the material. By the way Fabrikoid was a nitrocellulose material which is highly flammable.

My grandson will inherit my Dad's '26 TT, which Dad bought in 1942. We've been giving it loving attention periodically as we've been able, but my grandson's willingness bumps up against my physical condition and doesn't offset my surgeries.....

Well that is a gratifying and not-so-uncommon discovery as I can personally attest to. Good for you.
with regards to electrical, Bill has opined correctly that an ohm meter is not sufficient to ensure electrical health in wiring in all cases. Wires which have continuity are not necessarily capable of carrying current. Ohm meters really aren't...

Stromberg OF dripping fuel

I'm having trouble finding the cause of fuel dripping out of a Stromberg OF carb. I've rebuilt maybe 30 of these carbs and this particular one now runs absolutely perfectly all through the load and RPM ranges and might be the best running OF I've ever had except that it drips fuel at the bottom of the throttle shaft but only after shut-down. I am...

I'm not sure how to fix a leaking shaft, other than to try to machine a new bushing to within a few ten-thousanths. Either that, or machine some grooves for o-rings.

Does anyone have a tool box, probably plastic, that smells like nasty old cheese when you open it up. I have experienced this with a couple smaller tool boxes. What's the deal??
Last post
Not a toolbox, but one year I opened my tackle box for the first time of the season and discovered that I forgot to toss the unused catfish bait. I haven't made that mistake since.

Does anyone have experience pro or con with the new production 12 volt geared starter that some vendors carry?
Last post
My model A ring gear was starting to move forward. I did not feel like taking the engine out to fix it so I tapped the ring gear back and installed a gear drive starter. Since it engages from the front the ring gear can not move.
I have used it for a couple of years and it works great but it sure does not look like an antique starter.

When I pull the choke out and press the starter button (with the ignition off) and let the engine roll over only two or three times...if I then switch on the ignition and move the the spark lever until it catches a coil, it'll try to fire on its own and...

Can someone tell me the height of a 1909 touring with the top down and windshield folded, to clear the rear door of a trailer?
Last post
I don't have any measurements to offer. Just wanted to remind all that tops and windshields were not standard equipment for most of 1909. Ford factory offered a few different windshields, and at least two different tops. At least one of the factory '09 tops sat very high in the back when folded down. I have seen photos showing a driver could not...

You're welcome. You might/will have to manipulate the retaining band a bit to get all to fit just right - it does move the exhaust !

My car still has the original radiator seems too cool okay but I've noticed lately that it is seeping a little bit radiator stop leak yes or no could it do more damage than good
Last post
My worry with StopLeak type stuff is not whether or not it fixes radiator leaks, but what it's doing to the coolant passages inside the engine.
Seems like it's designed to work as a clotting agent of sorts. If so, why wouldn't it bunch up in places where you wouldn't want it to?
I bit the bullet with my 24 Touring and bought a new Berg's unit....
