Keith, thank you for correcting my error. I got carried away with the idea of number stamping a strip of tin/copper and affixing it to the frame. With a little tarnish/paint it would look much more authentic than a repro data plate.

That tag on the frame is a modern tag, you can get them for $6.50 at amazon and stamp anything on them you want. Probably something that was done in one of those difficult DMV states to reduce the red tape. Not Ford, not model T.

Assume you mean oil cans, supplied with tool kit.

Here's an exercise in a poor use of time! Value recieved vs. effort expended is way out of whack ;) Still though, it was an interesting endeavor. Tack welding a shaft collar to a stressed part like a drive shaft is just plain bad engineering!

Those clear lens are 'round' and are about 1/8 thick. The round fit best with the 'clip' style retainers in the headlamp rim. Those are early style steel rims.

If using the H lens style rims, those are made with little tabs that rest against a squared off edge on the glass. That is a feature of the fluted Ford H lens. So your clear lens needs to...

I think the Planitor shifter is the same design as the shifter for the 3 Speed Rocky Mountain drive line transmission except the RM one has provision for 3 locking positions whereas the Planitor shifter only has two. I sold my RM trans and shifter to Jim Burns down in Texas last year. Possibly Jim can check the shifter and report back. I sort of...

For 24 pitch, one turn = 0.0417 , 1/36 of a turn 0.001157 so yes, 10 degrees of rotation is just over one thou, if that is still the question, best,jb

Is it just me, or does the second crank journal photo seem to show a crack running diagonally across the journal surface?

We started our metric conversion in 1966 with decimal currency. Since then, all weights and measures have come over. It takes time, but it is of great benefit. It is much easier to measure and cut a length of timber to .370m than 1 foot,2 and 9/16 inches. About the only conversion this 73 year old has not got his head around is in measuring...

One interesting tidbit is that the very last of the Ford windshield braces that went from windshield hinge to front of the frame were not the usual steel tubing with the thin brass casing but were in fact just black enameled tubing - no Brass on them at all but still went from windshield brace to front of frame. I have been looking for a long time...

Some grease has a clay base and over time it will seperate. I use the red tube grease but i add and force the old out once a year.Trucks have ran on oil for 50 years now. :D Bud. :D

I use Fastenal store to store shipping I shipped A 1952 Lincoln tranny,radiator, box of misc motor parts etc from Rochester NY to Columbus Ohio for $150 all you have to do is bring it to the store and they ship it for you It all has to fit into a pallet no overhangs

Definitely A worthless accessory if your crankshaft and fan pulleys have the correct crown . However I have them on 5 of my T's. 3 are homemade. Most ones are this variety that Jay shared with us years ago. I plan to improve my pulleys as time permits.

The spokes were garbage after closer inspection. All needed to be taken apart anyway for the respoke. Makes for a lighter box and cheaper shipping. Going a slightly taboo route on these. More to come. The steel fellows will be up for sale soon. Some surface rust but no major...

Alot of tapers are 3 and1/2 degrees on each side. 7 total, although I've never checked a steering shaft. It would need to be in a lathe and indicated in.

Most likely some sort of a road draft tube that hung below the engine in the stream of air under the vehicle to create a slight vacuum and keep the crankcase fumes out of the car.

Joe, If you fly in plan to arrive early or you may get diverted to a satellite field and have to ride the shuttle in. This will be my 46th consecutive visit to EAA Airventure at Oshkosh. First time I flew in as the copilot of a WWII B-25 Bomber.... I've flown my own plane in several times but for the last 20+ years have preferred to bring a camper...

I think the biggest problem you'll have is the multitude of choices.

Except for the fender bracket, the optional 1926-27 Model T and the standard Model A 1928-29(early) model A, drum style brake/tail light assemblies are basically the same.

Neat picture. You have to really look to see the driver as he blends in with the shrubs behind and with all the white you can just make out the three ladies each holding a child.

Are you sure his brakes didn't fail and he ran thru the flower garden :roll:

I have sure Mic in my 15 touring. My father found this crank in a busted block in the late 50. I just had the motor rebuild 2 years ago by Pats Restoration and it still usable. I don't drive much over 35 mph.

It will run a heck of a lot better if you increase the compression ratio. Take the time to CC the head - I think you will find the CR to be under 5:1 with stock pistons.

If a extra 50 bucks is not a problem for you ,you are a blessed man.
No real reason for a T radiator to be that much higher than a tractor or other car radiator.

My previous post got me thinking about Ruckstell values. I remember when $150. was an outrageous asking price for a Ruckstell. And walking past them at swap meets shaking my wondering what the heck the guy was thinking! Back then you could find good ones for around $100. of course gas was
.19 to .25 cents a gallon!

Ford warned about about using the side blocks in Trucks, that the frame twisting broke crankcase arms, and pan twisting from holding the arms to rigid.

So, I have never used them on cars since I was in my teens.

Don't believe it! Take your floor boards out, and install the side blocks and bolts, the way they should be. Take it, still without...

The Mag only powers the coil box, so that would not be a problem for a T engine with a generator.

An early T engine that taps some of the mag voltage to charge a small battery could or might mess up LED lights.

The racers were all classified as non stock in one description, so I wonder what T was used, and if it was modified.

I believe that information is in the service book.

If you can see the glue lines after you put it back together you could paint more lines on the globe to make it look like crazing which is common in old pottery.

I guess I was lucky then the 1912 crank went all that broke on the block was the timing cover we added the out side oil line in the rebuild.

I heard Tim give a talk about Model A town cars at the Model A Day at the Gilmore a couple of years ago. That talk was his swan song - a trouper and true hobbyist to the end. We lost a good one, there.

There are lots of ways to retain the plug but I used 1/4 - 32 threads which should tighten up very well and not unwind themselves. It is also easier to whittle a plug if you do lose the turn plug and easier to send out a replacement.

At one point 60 years ago I was working for Northern Tank Lines hauling crude oil out of the Medora, North Dakota oil production treater sites. That would be the least important place to put another spring. It would not keep the ends of the axle from bouncing, but might actually make the ride harder because your fulcrum will be right in the center. Hassler's would be a better choice, however I personally don't think either is necessary.

They were available in the ‘90’s. Townsend also offered Bronze main caps for A crank conversions and also block extension castings for these conversions.
I guess if you go back through old Vintage Ford magazines you can get a more exact time frame

I believe the 1912 gas line along the frame is about the same as the 1911, however by 1912 they had begun to use the cross-over tube that was attached to the radiator. From the cross over tube to the lamps would just be the red rubber hose.

Terrific story. And as everyone says, West Peterson is a terrific photographer. I find it very hard to take a good photo of a car. He is a master.

I don't what to start a big discussion, but I run a 160 degree thermostat in my thermosyphon system. All plugs run the same color with no fowling. Also using an IR thermometer, the head temperature has practically no variation from rear to front.

Paint codes are listed here PPG does cross reference the Windsor/Ford royal maroon. BTW, it is the same color as Model A Windsor maroon. It is the color I used for my 26 Tudor. Not cheap, but available.

The test was to see how they worked as stand alone brakes, for example the driveshaft breaks or transmission goes in to neutral, not for everyday use.

I agree, just clean the rust up and use as is. Drums are fairly cheap new or to find good used ones.
