Hi All,
I am researching the history of tires for an article in a UK vintage car journal.
In Europe beaded edge/clincher tyres were dominant until the mid-twenties with straight sided tyres used for a brief period in the early 1920's but both were quickly replaced by wellbase wired tyres from around 1925.
It seems like wired straight sided...

An object lesson. The left reflector is an original silvered one in tolerable shape. The right reflector is one of the aluminum coated ones from Lang's. It's a world of difference, and I'll know in a few days how much difference it'll make. And of course, check that you have good grounds.

The spark coils on my ‘26 coupe were adjusted years ago by Ron the Coilman and work fine, but I have never cleaned them or performed any maintenance. Is there any type of maintenance that should be performed on them to prevent corrosion and wear, prolong their life and increase their performance? Happy New Year. Jim Patrick
Last post
No, don't touch them. If you see some material transfer between the points or you are feeling like a tune up is due then send them to a competent coil guy or take them to a club meeting where you can have some experienced help with the proper tools and tester, but regular owner performed maintenance on coils should be avoided.

Yes, I found the HCCA website and discovered that minor date detail! The Convention starts the day after the swap meet, so there isn't an overlap, except for those that have to trailer their cars from Bakersfield to Stateline, they will have a fairly long day on the road!

Since it looks like cold weather has slowed the progress on most of our T's I guess I will start it this month. I have an original July 1925 engine that has the transmission cover ears and the wide brake drum.
I was surprised to notice the bolts that hold the back plate to the drum assembly had just large round flat screw heads.
A little later in 1926, the bolts were elongated, as the hex head could not turn inside the wider brake drum area.

Word of caution; be aware of free (unexpected) starts when making adjustments to the timer with the key set on “BAT”.
The timer is very close to the fan and I do not recommend doing any work to the timer if there is a potential for the car to start for that reason.

Any idea what these are for? Very heavy, well made stamping with a distinctive shape. I’d appreciate any help. FC2025B0-1572-4D4B-869D-97DCBC68A97D.jpeg

This photo comes from the same family member as the earlier post and shows her grandfather in the TT in 1941. The information we have is that he was delivering ice in the truck at age 9 or 10. He later drove over the road for a very long time in addition to do other work over the years.

Hopping someone can answer a question for me. I'm rewooding my 1924 cutoff Touring. Can someone possibly tell me how the original metal side skin, wood upright pillars were attached to the sills? I'm assuming it may have been wood screws. How many? 1?, 2?, 5? Any particular pattern?
I have no reference on this so hoping someone that has rewooded...

two wood screws...in this picture, one is installed and the other hole is there with countersink. They go into the spacer block behind them. This block stiffens the upper/lower body contour wood to the sill and provides lots of meat for the pillar to seat against.
likely similar to your situation

Im going to try to say this without sounding too critical of Howell’s deck lid skins...
The roadster skin I had from Howell’s was better than nothing, and I was happy to have a head start on the project. But the skin was far from ready to install. The main issue was the complete lack of compound curve in the skin. Because of this, the skin...

Thanks :)
Last post
The problem with altering sleeve thickness, axle diameter & adding shim to compensate for worn Hyatt bearings, is that Hyatt rollers do NOT wear evenly, without taper. When using a tapered roller, because of the differing circumference of each end, one end will tend to skid on the axle & sleeve and cause premature wear. The different...

My wife and I recently inherited her dad's model T. We believe probably an early 20's model. It's a roadster with a single door on the passages side and back tires are 30 x 3 1/2. All the wheels have wooden spokes. It has a zenith carburetor, and a sorta round radiator. The wind shield slants in and is divided. Not for sure if any of this came on...

I have an original '14/'15 style muffler for my '15. But the little tail-pipe on it was missing. It isn't the way it should be, but I didn't have a practical way to do it the way it should be. So, I found a scrap of thin-wall steel tubing that just fit the inside of the muffler end, slid it into place, and tack-brazed it into place. Should work...

I've searched everywhere but I can only find one vendor, Lang's, who sells replacement...

Some fellows on the AACA page have expressed opinions that woven lining works better against steel and moulded works better on cast iron...

Thanks. Ken

My experiance on them is they are harder starting, cold hearted but if you are on the high end of performance they do increase a little bit, The OS stromberg was more of an improvement but did not want to spend the big money to get rid of the sinus drip it had.
