Whatever Happened to Valspar Project Perfect Paint ?

...in aerosol cans? This query isn’t ‘OT’ because that was the very best for painting Model T small parts. The I’Net says that Sherwin Williams bought Valspar for $9.2 B but they don’t carry this product. The I’Net also says that Lowe’s sells Valspar Project Perfect cans... but calling 2 stores I was told it was discontinued. Now we’re left with...

Sherwin Williams wanted Valspar for its sealant, stain, and varnish lines. That sounded like propaganda at the time to get past anti-trust but bit by bit as each month goes by, more and more Valspar former products seem to not be available from any of the good sized stores.
I was but half way through a project that would call for maybe 15...

One of the benefits of cleaning up and organizing the shop is finding stuff you forgot you had.

I'm not going to admit to how many times I've ordered the same part multiple times because I didn't remember that I already had it.
I sometimes order parts months before starting a project to spread out the costs. I keep spreadsheets for both of my cars where I list parts or services purchased with from and expenditures columns. It helps...

Compare the width with a common later hogshead. If the early one is that one inch narrower around the flywheel area, it is '09 into late '10. If the early one is the same as the later one, it is later '10 into early '11. The engine pan/lower crankcase also is narrower on the earliest cars.
There are good reasons why the narrower early hogsheads...

We have been making the plate nuts for the radiator mounting kit for years at 2 3/8 long, in the past I have seen on this site that some feel it is to long, the originals were only just under a inch long and I think that was on early cars but no one liked them because they would spin, we have made this length for years just like the old...

I found the same thing with square nuts and bolts while restoring the 8in1 truck body. Not only off center holes or shank but the whench would fit the nut or bolt one way but a 1/4 turn and wrench was too large or too small. Charm is what I call it.

All I want to do is regulate the amount of gas going to the headlights. Right now, I have no gauge at all and just crack the valve until I think I have enough going to the lights, then light them and regulate them. I want something that's vintage looking.
That's been to chancy for me.

-Up & down movement of the camshaft is .005 .
Are these measurements withis tolerance or do I need to looking into finding a new front bearing?

Bill, I think you covered it in your description, a bigend rattle is the connecting rod on the crankshaft, with the wear in the cam bearing you get a rattle that will drive you nuts. Like you say, an advance rattle. The later cams are easy to make a good fit bearing if a new one still gives to much end play, I take the early longer bearing and...

As for the lube/don't lube argument about the lube attracting grit, I've heard that same argument from back in the '60's from farmers regarding farm equipment. Trust me, ANY lube is far and away better than none, rust and dry parts will eat up components far faster than oily grit. Been there, done that. ;) Dave

Does anyone know if auto industry from the 1920s used any kind of connector or plug in any of the cars? I’d like to add a couple connectors into my headlight wiring harness. I bought a “lot” of model t parts from eBay and there was a wiring harness included but it was hacked up a little bit and the headlight wires are too short and I’d like to...

Any connector is a possible source of failure. It is easy to extend wires by splicing the two ends together and soldering the joint. Heat shrink is your friend to insulate the joint. Sometimes I have even cut the existing wire shorter to make the joint where it cannot be seen.

Until the ignition switch jostles over to mag ...
It just makes it easier to tow, subjects the drive train to less reverse stress without having to pull it over on compression, and reduces the heat generated from said compression...
I'm still trying to figure out how leaving the plugs out when towing it would create a huge oily mess......

The drain plug is large zerk size. The plug was a Allen wrench, flat plug.

Hi everyone,
I was cleaning my radiator today (1915 brass) and it suddenly developed a pretty substantial leak. Upon removing the radiator cap, a steady stream of drops started pouring out of the overflow tube at the bottom of the radiator. It is definitely coming from the tube and not anywhere else, since plugging the tube with a finger stops...
Last post
Quick fix is to shove a piece of rubber tubing over it that just fits snugly. If that fixes the leak, then the overflow tube has some internal perforations and should be fixed correctly by a radiator repair shop.

When it's time to take out your lantern, remember to oil the pump cup on the tank's pump plunger at least twice a year with a light machine oil. This allows the cup to seal against the inside of the pump barrel and insures the pump will work smoothly and push air into the tank properly.

I bought a Model T at Hershey and in some of the boxes were these items. Just curious, what are they and do they belong on a Model T.

I'm sure something has already been posted, but has anyone ever hooked up the emergency brake system to assist the regular service brake. I'm thinking a connection from the pedal to a cross shaft with rods and slots connected to the E brake rods. Bruce

I just use the hand brake to stop the car, no need to connect up the pedal.

There are some wonderful pictures folks have posted of their cars, but there should be more. There's only one 1910, and for a lot of years there are fewer than ten pictures. If you haven't yet posted a photo of your Model T, why not make that a project?

Hi everyone,
My uncle's speedster has a Bosch high tension magneto on it, back in june we were on the SCVMTFC endurance run and broke down cause the car started missing, which we thought fouled plug. After checking plus on side of road, the car would not start. Quick check revealed weak spark from the mag. It was 100 degrees out side that day....

Dan,
I talked to him last night. He has a bunch of mag parts but hasn't check for a condenser. I will pass that website on to him.

Our 14 has only been out 3 times this year because of i can't seem to crank it.It seems as if it binds up and is very hard to crank.I leave it stored with the lever forward and use 5-30 oil. People have often asked me why not just put a starter on but i would rather not use it than pimp up a nice survivor! I have jacked up a rear wheel and it has...

I'm collecting data for rear windows for 1913-1927 tourings and roadsters. I'm only interested in cars that have the original tops supplied by Ford. I need the size of the window, (light), and the spacing between the windows from 17-21, and 22-24. For the purists out there, if you have ever been anywhere where there is a group of Model T's, it's...

Mike and I are working on this together. Two years ago, I did quite a bit of research on the subject. Some of those old prints are difficult to read. Once again, the reason for this post is, the next time you go on a tour, you'll see what I mean especially the 22-24 rear windows.

I picked these up at an antique store. Their shape fascinated me and the price was right for me to satisfy my curiosity. The hook portion of the brackets hook perfectly to the front axle wishbone on both my Model T and Model AA.
Are these brackets used for lifting or towing a Model T/Model A? Does anyone know what these are for?

Paint gun discussions are like ''the best oil'' discussions. No answer is really satisfactory. All painters have different abilities and different experiences. A lousy gun can give excellent results with a good experienced painter. On the other hand a great gun can give a very poor job depending on who is using it. I have 2 MBC Devillebiss guns. I...

If you got the car to run again on mag gently move the key while it’s running on the mag position and see if engine runs better or more erratic. Then switch it on battery and do the same thing. Could be something is not making contact in the switch like it should.

horsepower do humans have compare to Model T engine?
by
Quickm007 » Mon Oct 21, 2019 9:48 am
Its been said that the human burns about 100 W just standing there.
A person can do 200 W of power easily when working. a Good athlete can sustain a 400W effort for a while. Instantaneous efforts like jumping or throwing can generate even higher short term power.
A HP is about 750 Watts, for comparison.
So humans can generate in the range of...

See picture below outside facing in, is the big notch in the rear door jamb of a 22 touring body normal?
Last post
I do like the outside door handles!
Yes, that is a bit excessive. Probably due to some issues with the wood, or possibly frame sagging. I am imagining that at this time you do not wish to do a total restoration.
However, you really need to assess the conditions and try to determine just where the problem is. There is likely a simple adjustment...
