I am just finishing a long and difficult restoration of a 1936 Ford Cabriolet for a client in the Seattle area. Have always had problems with Grosse, seem to stick open or closed for any reason, most for me is from gas setting a while, other times from additives in todays gas that dry and deposit on the ball. Maybe too is these are china made, balls can be tiny bit out of roundness, seating poorly.

Lack of sidelamps is a giveaway on the 1919 or later date. It's of course an artist rendering which can often complicate more precise dating. Your guesses appreciated.

15 million plus Model Ts were made. All that were built with electrical systems were 6 volt. If it's a slow crank, a voltage drop test should be...

Thanks for the replys and advice. One thing I forgot to mention (due to a slipping clutch in my brain) is that the rear exhaust port on my block has seen some repair in the past and therefore I will use a new manifold. Don't want to risk any more damage to the block.

I am building the speedster engine. I think I just dodged a bullet today ... Today I was riveting the ring gear bolts in place that hold the ring gear and the 16 spools that Im using for oil slingers. While riveting the bolts one of the triple gear pins fell out. I thought they were in good shape. No wear at all and no signs of looseness. So today...

Autie, Sounds like you are making progress. If you cut the retainer ring in four pieces and label them as to where they originally were when solid and then install them in that order on the flywheel , I do not think weighing them will be needed. As an added protection I also used locktite on the screws Dan supplies. His ring is really a nice...

1913 Touring - Location of Side Curtain Fasteners

I’m trying to finish up the top for my 1913 Touring and need to know the location for the side curtain fasteners on the inside of the car. The top that was on the car had several curtain fasteners attached to the inside of the lower edge of the top. That may be correct, but I’m not sure and was wanting to ask the question. Anyone out there with a...

Dan,
I will take some better pictures for you and measure from a point on the top that can be found on other cars to locate them. Also I loaned out my side curtains to Mike at Clastique over the summer so he could confirm they are original and make a pattern and start reproducing them for people like you that will be looking for them. I guess...

Attention, NOT FOR THE PURISTS
My car had a cast iron FSB with the brass valves. I used valve lapping compound to try to seat the valves (both the shut off and the drain valves) to no avail, could not get the #$%* thing to stop dripping. So I went to Tractor supply and found this bowl for a Massey Ferguson tractor, half the price of the one from...

Scott you are so smart. You are absolutely correct about a $50 dollar part. For an aircraft, parts are much more expensive. The fuel bowl is the same design on my Cessna 120 with a glass bowl. On my Cessna 150 the bowl is also glass but a little different in design and as you said not a $50 dollar part. Tractor carburetors also have many enter...

It was made by the Youngblood Sales and Manufacturing Company Atwood, Kansas. Anybody have...

Hi all, It seems to me a shame that there are so many nice cars with for sale but no buyers! The 14 touring I have for sale here and on HCCA could not be much more original and as mentioned here several you couldn't paint it for that Most younger guys are either completely anti internal combustion (ridiculous) or they want 2200 HP not 22. Or you could just rotate the ring gear 90 degrees. If you go the frugal way you’ll need to mark the ring gear and flywheel so you don’t put it back in the same place, oh make sure you put the ring gear on the correct side. Don’t ask me how I know to check that.

I know the vendors sell...

Guys, I wish I could post photos from my phone, but I can no longer log in on it. I have a way to satisfactorily mount a warped manifold so that it does fit and stays fitted without leaking.
I lay a straight edge along the two centre ports. This will tell you how much the front and rear ports are warped down.
Then I cut SIX gland rings from...

Usually a closed spool will not fit a 26-7 axle housing because of the shoulder on the rear end of the spool. Axle housings to accept the closed spool are machined so the shoulder goes on over the machined rebate. The later axle housings have a tapered shoulder, preventing the closed spool from seating. An open spool will fit early housings but...
