Richard, my apologies for a bum steer in some of my response. our RHD cars have the starter switch on the opposite side, so the cables and looms have to switch sides under the car. Hence the different route for the wire. The insulators and the 3 hole fibre piece are likely the same, but will be in different locations.

I had a similar rattle and found it was octane knock caused by my Reeder aluminum high compression head. I went to 91 octane gas and used a little less advance. Rattle gone!

I am so pleased to see young people being involved in the hobby. My old boss found this hat at the local Country Club. Club opened in 1924, he just had to buy it for me.

At first I was thinking maybe it was to hold something besides the canteen/water. But with the ability to turn it to pour. I figured it must be for water. Evidently the strap over the top which is now rotten would hold it from turning while driving :-)

I have built up a collection of 8 point sockets in 1/2 drive. Some are two different vintages of Snap-on. They are very handy when working with coach bolts and square nut when building wooden bodywork. I paid US$13 for a 9/16 Snap-on one on ebay. You can guess where that one gets most use.

I'll second the Optima red top recommendation. I share one between 3 cars. Set up with wing nut terminals, it is easy and CLEAN to transfer from one car to another. Because it gets used, it rarely needs to go on a charger, but I have one on standby anyway. Spendy, but well worth it.

Have always had problems with Grosse, seem to stick open or closed for any reason, most for me is from gas setting a while, other times from additives in todays gas that dry and deposit on the ball. Maybe too is these are china made, balls can be tiny bit out of roundness, seating poorly. :shock:

High compression pistons stock head and cam, advanced 5 deg. new snyder rods with babbitt I did balance the crank flywheel rods and pistons, should have also balanced the drums. 15 million plus Model Ts were made. All that were built with electrical systems were 6 volt. I could care less what you do with your car's electrical system, but if your T isn't running as it's supposed to on 6 volts (and the magneto), there is a problem. My approach would be to find it. Got my 1926 Touring nearly a year ago. I've been working on 60s, 70s, and 80s Fords and Mercury's since I was 15. Own 7 of them and two non-Fords now along with a 52 Farmall H and a couple of ATVs. I have a Stewart 160 in my '25. Russ did it too. It has never been a problem. I greased all the links a few months back, and the chain and housing were as clean as they were when I put the car together over 10 years ago. Perhaps you should think about changing brands of speedometers?

I have pulled down engines with odd pistons in them, you have to remember at one time nothing was availible, I have seen plenty of Ford 292 or 312 piston in them that may be what you have. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replys and advice. One thing I forgot to mention (due to a slipping clutch in my brain) is that the rear exhaust port on my block has seen some repair in the past and therefore I will use a new manifold. Don't want to risk any more damage to the block.

I think I discovered the problem. I had some errant sparking between the back of the spark ring and the ammeter. So I put a spacer washer behind each of the four insulators and that allowed the spark to choose the ring instead in that area. Also filed out the spark ring mounting holes a little to allow better centering. So now I need to figure out...

Do you have the MTFCA book on differential rebuild? Well worth getting that and it covers setting clearances and provides advice what to do. Mine is in the workshop across the year and I can't recall that passage by heart...

Generally the clearances in the TT are not so touchy as in the T....

The free start is always sweet, though the Mrs. doesn't always share my jubilation. The sign of a well tuned T. I get quite a few, though I can't take any of the credit. The T came to me well tuned.

Follow-up: I did an in-car magneto recharge, and I think I'm in okay shape. Before recharge output was 15 V; after recharge was 26 V and the bulb blew followed by a new bulb that blew at 24 V. I had the same problem with a new aluminum clamping pulling on my '15.

The pin hole is slightly too far back in the pulley. I decided not to try to cut the center out deeper using my lathe as it didn't look too thick in the back wall.

Just a follow-up to my original posts. After most leads on making new or having originals went dry, I made my own. Material the right thickness was purchased from McMaster Carr, a 22mm drill bit from Ebay. Fortunately I have a large heavy duty floor drill press that did just fine. Having an original to copy was a tremendous help. So approx. $100...

There's an army command you don't hear much any more, the sergeant yelling, READY----PULL!!!! . I sure wouldn't want to be the poor doughboy who's T didn't start. :lol:

Try shining a flash light in the magneto post and look for a piece of metal caught up around the contact pad on the coil assembly. When mine failed, the removable magneto post was clean. The piece of tie wire was caught on the side of the magneto contact pad inside and could just be seen with a light then pulled out with needle nose pliers.

It could be so many things it is hard to know where to begin. Replacing kingpins and bushings is only a start on a front end inspection and rebuild.

ball socket in pan
bal sockets on draglink and tie rod
tie rod pins
steering arms (tie rod bushings)
steering arm parallelism
steering arm loose in stubshaft (1 or 2x)
pitman arm loose on steering...

Be very careful when you buy a swivel. Make sure it is tight with no slop and the right ratio! You can make very expensive purchases on ebay and car shows ... that are mistakes.
