I am sure this is not the answer you are looking for but my opinion is the only way to transport a T is in a fully enclosed trailer. I use straps on the axles with microfiber cloths around the axles where the tiedowns rub on the axles. I never cross my straps, keeping them parallel to tle ling frame rails. Has anyone ever found what the dates cast into the early low heads mean? I have some that only have 2 numbers. Like a 10 then 28. Then there are some with one number above the other 2 numbers. Has anyone ever found anything at the Ford research center about these numbers? Thanks Dan

Weren’t heat treated as my SawsAll wouldn’t have been able to quickly section, like cutting through butter, this freeze cracked

I like to use the original sound wood where possible.
This is the back of the dash. It was broken in four places with one piece of wood missing of the four. I made that piece and glued it all back together.
The two bolts are too long but they were all I could scramble together.
I need to find a Stewart model 160 speedometer to go in that...

I have a 1926 Touring with front Hasslers and bought a nice set of bumpers only to discover the front bumper will not easily install with the Hasslers on.
Which would you choose? Remove the Hasslers and install bumpers or leave the Hasslers in place.

Is the rear seat back cushion secured to the body in any way? I noticed that it does take much force for it to tip forward. I have not seen any hooks/brackets on the wood frame to which the springs/upholstery is attached.

Decided to try my hand at gluing up, bonding, reshaping.
These were replicated by Don Booth, but when I sent them to him, the pointed corners were missing, so he replicated what he had. Upon receiving them, I promptly 'found' the missing pieces in the parts pile for the car.

I have some Kelsey loose lugs that are unmarked and some identical Stone lugs marked 44 C. I understand that the Stone lugs are aftermarket. Does anyone know if these are correct for the Kelsey clincher rims on my '22 Centerdoor. The car is in Florida and I am heading down there next month so I am not sure if what I have will work. Thanks

I checked the one I assumed was aluminium. If it is zinc, as some have suggested from documentation, it is not simply polished. It is nickel plated. That plating is pitted like plating on diecast door handles etc. Otherwise it is just like all the other Canadian hubcaps, including the random letter embossed under the Ford script.

Removed a nice looking working mag feild coil,it has a small place where the wrap is gone about 3\8 square no damage to the coil winding,just wondering if I could put some epoxy or something on it to repair?

Since you posted your mag ring it does look like the insulation is hard and brittle which means age and heat has caught up with it.
Sort of like a radiator question. Should I try to repair an original that ‘looks’ good or buy a new one and be satisfied for sure.
Replacing a radiator is easy compared to replacing a mag ring that didn’t last....

Most new top boots I've seen have no welt top or bottom. If you will kindly post a picture of what Mike makes for you, I'd like to see it. You may wish to supply Mike with the correct fasteners too, as the modern ones just don't look the same.

I'm refreshing my 1926 engine. Today I checked the camshaft end play and found it to be 0.029 . This seems on the long side. I don't know what it should be, but I had expected less. On the one hand, any flat is a bummer. On the other hand, I'd rather have it at home than out on the road. As soon as the car was moving, I noticed it pulling to the right. Here's why.

Steve, the worst part about that is the crater looks like it would be a dodgy proposal to fit a replacement original metal stem. There's not a lot of rubber left to clamp on.

My 26TT rear end is stamped P1001 Hall Scott. All I can find is that Ruckstell worked for Hall Scott so is this a Ruckstell rear end?

I went to put on the original apron that I removed over 50 years ago on a 26 coupe. When the crank hole and screw below hole is aligned up, the 2 tabs that go over the radiator studs are about a 1/2 above the frame. I don't remember anything between the tabs and the frame, am I wrong. I'd appreciate a diagram of how this fits together.

Need to replace both spindles on the front of my 26 TT. Project. There are several choices of individual spindles and a couple of pairs on ebay, all 1920 and later. Will these work to replace mine? I am assuming the TT front end is the same as the car.

Thanks for the replys George and RojaRacer. I had forgot about thread direction. I did have T Haven find a passenger side spindle, bearing and nut. Seems that this TT trucks rt spindle was replaced years ago with a 26-27 left side spindle(notice right hand threads). This explains why the threads are wore down.

I have a Phinney Walker Brass clock. It runs great, but the slivering is all gone. The face is brass. The numbers and lines could use a little touch up with the black wax. Here’s my question. Have you used/ done any of the slivering face before? Results? which kit did you use?

If it’s actually brass .. polish the brass first. Then make a paste of silver nitrate, calcium carbonate and either potassium cyanide or sodium thiosulfate. Rub this onto the brass and it will deposit pure silver.

27 fan pulley

The fan pulley has about 3/16th in and out play on it. I just rebuilt it last winter with all new and fitted parts. I would like to remove it to find out what’s going on. Can I sneak the pulley by the radiator without removing the return neck? Or do I have to drain the antifreeze and remove everything?

I am enjoying the U&J carburetor recently rebuilt by Stan. Love the 0-30 mph range. The only fault I have experienced is in the upper end. Seems to sputter when I’m in the 35-40 mph range. I was rebuilding some coils for a friend the other day and found this inside one of them. I thought it was really neat. I put it right back where I found it when I got done. I left the nails out so I could show it to him when I give them back.

Had a great morning with the 1920 Roadster. I had the top up, then folded it down so that I could roll the T under the carport.
All was going well when I couldn't figure out why the T wasn't rolling any more.
Looked up and realized I hadn't folded the windshield, either.
The carport doesn't have much give.

Tried to do the glue on oil seal trick on a fellow
Club members car. I got the seal from langs
Split it every 1\4 inch or so flattened it out
And put it on backwards but it is too thick to allow the pulley to go on. Is there a thinner

I guess I need a refresher. Not sure how, or best way to adjust the transmission brake band when you have rocky mountain brakes installed.
I have done it but can't find the procedure. any help appreciated.

My experience with this is that the rocky mountain brakes nearly not working when you go backwards.
I tighten the drumbrake bit by bit so it was just function in reserve, not more.
If you brake in forwards drive and you can still feel the rocky mountain brakes all seem to be correct.
Any way thats the way I did it, but maybe there is...

It is clearly NOT a Ford, and it clearly has a custom body on a heavy truck type chassis
My guess is close to 1920 ? Location is Salida, Colorado, and the small narrow gauge
locomotive may skew one's sense of size of the vehicle in question....

Shorty and I drove to the tractor show at the fairgrounds, a round trip of forty miles. The car did well except when a couple of the take-apart Champion X spark plugs worked loose. A wrench fixed that and I drove home with no more trouble.

I just got this radiator in it is nos from a very old aftermarket
customer who had this says he had owned it since the 50's and he got it from a farmer
pictures not the best because its sitting on a white pad very clean
the neck and shape of the tank are different as well is the inlet and outlet
very similar to a T

Key detail is the raised ‘collar’ or rim around the backside of the hub. That provides locking system for the special Ford hub bolts. Also most have a small depression in the casting on the backside of the center with Ford script.

The answer is 23, at least in this case. After the car has run a few miles the grease may be spread around to make more space.

I'm getting ready to align my headlamps per the Ford Service manual, but before I make the up/down adjustment I notice the lenses on both lamps seem to be tilted top outward from the centerline by 5 degrees. This isn't rocket science, with the drive assembly straight through, eg high gear, the clutch fingers should be just clear of the push ring. You should be able to wiggle the fingers.

My theory about the acetone is that acetone is a material that is a airomatic { might be the wrong word] such as pb blaster or other penetrants that have minty fumes. this carries into the rust and caries the oil with it. The best penetrating oil is pure peppermint oil Try it some time.

This one has me stumped. My 1913 Roadster runs great. No engine noise when idling, revved up or driving the rear end with the rear wheels off the ground. Can increase the speed with no appreciable noise. However, when driving the car on the street there is an appreciable pounding noise with a relative constant rhythm. It gets worse when revved up...

The bodies seem to have the same kind of opening side windows i.e. split horizontally with hinges on the outside as the one at Mount Pleasant.could well be from the same builder.

I have a 1918 touring car. It has a coil box with the switch on the front of it. With the switch cover off and the switch set to battery and maybe on Magneto as well, and when energized, there are a lot of extra sparks dancing around the lower portion of the switch. QUESTION:::: There seems to be like cardboard insulating at that area., over time...

Looking for a right side door for 26 Model T Tudor, I understand a 28-29 Model A truck door is the same for 26-27 Tudor. I spoke with Snyder's and a new door is $1,350, not cheap but may be only option if I can't find a used one hat can be reworked.

I am planning on driving my T from Milwaukee to OCF. I carry a tent with me and am wondering if you are allowed to camp on the grounds overnite, or if I need some other place to stay?

I have a question on running board step plates my Model T Coupe has had a pair on it at one time the hole spacing is 10 1/2 in across I have a couple pair of Original Ford ones they only measure 7 and 3/4 does anybody have a clue of what kind of Step plates may have been on this at one time that would have measured 10 and 1/2 in acrost

My Dec. 1921 touring I have had since the 1970s is all original and has holes in both running boards that look as if there were step plates at one time.
Thankfully they are not on the car as I find that Ts with shiny step plates draw my eye to the plates and not to the overall look of the car. I love unadorned and original cars.

I just had my 27 Roadster painted and the body was removed from the chassis. I have the body mounted using the original wooden blocks but now the drivers door won't shut correctly. The gap near the lower hinge and door is closer than at the top. The inside edge of the door is hitting a mounting screw at the bottom on the hinge side of the door....

Norman clearly has done this before. No car body is as rigid as we like to think it is, a little shimming is always required to get things to fit right. Some naturally fit better than others, and some require a ton of work. Read Norman’s post a few times and be patient
