I have had this tool for quite a while and did not realize it was an available tool made especially for Ford Dealers.

$69.95/EA for this one. C $119.99 Approximately US $91.72 for one on Ebay. It made sense for Ford to furnish them although they would have been available through hardware stores or tent and awning makers too. I still use an Exacto knife with band-aids at the ready. Exhaust wrap and a heat shield. Helps a lot.
Just did a maintenance check this morning. Almost no lint in the transmission screen and bands have seated nice with no further adjustments needed. Greased and oiled everything. All set for a nice ride.

Like it. I use exhaust wrap on my T-uner. I can drive around at Interstate speeds for an hour, stop and touch the wrap without fear of leaving my skin on the manifold. There is an advantage of increased engine efficiency in using it too. You get more horsepower (>.1hp) because the wrap will keep exhaust heat in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe...

I'm prepping my rebuilt engine to get it ready to install in my T. I went to put my New Day timer on and have a question. Since the engine came from the rebuilder without a timer, I don't know which way to put the brush on the camshaft. Since the hole for the retainer pin goes all the way thru it's possible to install the brush 180 degrees off....

Recent discussion on the forum prompts a question:
There are a couple things about Model T Fords that do not make sense to me. Considering the fact that generally speaking, Henry Ford took great strides toward inexpensiveness if that's a word,....there might be a good reason that I've just never heard, but why would Henry put 30 x 3 tires on the...
Last post
Harold, You answered your own question. The 1st Ford chassis was mainly designed for use as a Touring Car. The smaller 30 x 3 tires were cheaper than the 30 x 3.5 tires, and the weight on the front axle was less than it was on the back when loaded. With the back seat loaded with maybe three people the load on the rear axle was more. As Ford's...

When the Model T was in its infancy and there were very few motorized vehicles on the road where did you buy gasoline?

When gasoline was first sold it was sold at pharmacies in open containers. Around 1880 the first pumps were developed around Fort Wayne Ind to dispense kerosene for stoves and lanterns. They soon were adapted for gasoline and placed next to the street for cars. The first drive in service station was opened December 1, 1913 in Pittsburgh Pa at the...

I would suggest you check for slop in the ends of the wire that runs from the steering column to the commutator.' If there's slop at either end, your test...

Its probably been repainted back in the 1980's and has splits in the wood IMG_2525.JPG

I am not sure if they need to use paint stripper and take all the old paint off back to the wood or seal the cracks with epoxy?

I used the West System on the 1909 I am restoring. I had many cracks and some complete loss of wood especially around the rear fenders. The only problem I found was that it works better if it’s horizontal, that’s why some of pictures show the body balanced on its nose...

To my surprise the engine was locked up tight. No give, no play, just zero rotation. I gave it a good, smooth pull as hard as I could and...

The description of the lockup was one of hand cranking...no starter involved. It cannot be the bendix if the starter was not energised. There seems to be both crucial information missing from the starting sequence, and large assumptions that the starter was involved during a hand crank - a fact that I do not discern in the description.

What recommendations do y'all have?

Thanks for all the suggestions y'all. I had it off while I put a new cam and reset the valves. There was a bit of 'gunk' sitting in the bottom of the lower spout. I suspect the cores are quite dirty.

This question is asked of those who have a lot of experience under their belt.
How many hours should it take to re-assemble a T short block AFTER all machining has
been completed. I ask this question so as to get a better idea of the cost
involved. I have taken the engine completely apart and will pay seperately to have
the babbitting done. I...
Last post
I usually get all the babbitt work done by Antique Engine and valves etc by Mesa machine shop in Escondido. Then final assembly can take 10-20 hours but I find setting up the magneto can add another 4-8 if it’s difficult. Much easier with a distributor. All depends if the bands need work or if the transmission needs work, that can easily double...

Don’t be in a hurry. If it takes a week to dry, wait a week. If you can smell it, it is not fully cured. If you try and recoat before it is dry, the underlying coat may alligator, which will entail removing all the paint and starting over from scratch, so waiting a little longer may actually shorten the job by you not having to do it over by...

If you want to watch the daily video's go to youtube and type in SweetTing. You might have to play around to see all of them, but they are there. It looks like everyone has made it this far. Now all they have to do is get over the mountains. I think it was the day before yesterday that they drove about 270 miles. Try that in your car.

If it runs in reverse, but not forward, the problem is not in the parking brake. The brake would work in either direction. If you have Rocky Mountain brakes, you might be too tight. In that case the rearward movement tends to disengage the Rocky Brakes, but forward will tighten them. So you might need to adjust them. Another thing, (this might...

The late original Ruckstell shift levers are splined. These are problem Eaton. They can be adjusted anywhere you want them. I would never use the floorboard plate that Dan Posted. Ruckstell never made them. You only need a hole that's big enough for the shift lever.

I'm currently rebuilding my rear end and using Chaffins manual. I'm wondering why there wasn't a shim selection chart ever made so you would know what size shim to install under the ring gear. Meaning, if you had .030 backlash between ring and pinion, what size shim would you need to get .012

If the bronze thrust washers are machined to the correct thickness, there is no need for shims. If the clearance is not that which is desired, it can be altered by shuffling the steel discs from side to side. Once the desired clearance is achieved, the right half and its washers can be assembled, the gap between the housings measured, and the...

Tried to video the chattering that often happens at the last few feet of a complete stop. This didn’t happen when I was seating the new kevlar bands two years ago. It was gradual over a thousand miles. Also get chattering when starting on a hill. By the time it happens in braking the car is no longer in gear and the rpms are low.
Last post
My Kevlar bands were great until my cracked block let some coolant in the oil. I think it was the antifreeze that caused my bands to chatter. It’s been several oil changes now and they are better.

Hello everyone, is there anyone that would be willing to loan out a hub threading tool? A previous owner badly damaged the threads on one of my rear hubs a long time ago, and ended up painting over the threads to hide the problem (quality craftsmanship if I've ever seen it  ). I managed to fix the other side just using a 24 tpi thread file,...

I knew the day would come. The wife and I took our '21 touring somewhere and people were looking it over and asking questions about it. We were both busy talking to them when someone noticed the oil burning lamps. When we went to check out the tail-light the font was missing. I watched the sides of the road all the way back home, making sure to...

My Roadster had wind wings and the right hand side fell off going down the road. I retrieved it without any damage but it fell off again a few months later only this time it exploded upon contact with the street. I don’t know why only that one would fall off but someday I hope to find a match and put them back on.

When an amateur such as myself takes something apart and 5 years later takes those parts to a professional to be put back together, there are bound to be some difficulties!!
My upholstery guy is trying to put the top back on Ole Gert and it isn’t going well. I’ve rebuilt the bows and all seems to be okay there, but the fabric isn’t cooperating....

This video is from Classtique Auto Upholstery, while it is a '23-'25 still very useful for the '26-'27 as its a one-man top with slant windshield.
Just the mentioned dimensions may not apply fully, but real good for install details.
And some photos of of Elizabeth on doing a '27 top, these were taken at a work session she gave at a T...

The fenders on my speedster came from Rootlieb and I am very pleased with them. The workmanship is top notch. It is a speedster so I can not speak to the fitment on an original car, but based on the quality of my fenders would guess they are good. I wanted the front fenders made with no aprons on them so I called Rootlieb and the custom request...

To install turn signals I assume I'll need six volt bulbs, a flasher, a three-way switch, and maybe a pair of indicator lights. Is there anything else? Anybody have a diagram for the wiring?

I just signal with my left arm. No one behind me is looking for lights. They are looking at me.

I ll bet it is too large a pattern for Model T Ford wire wheels ( 5 pattern) and too small for Model A ( 5 1/2 pattern), looks to me to be 1933-35 Chevrolet Standard ( 5 1/4 pattern). Obviously a front hub and without the brake drum ( studs have a short shoulder showing to center the brake drum).

Retired like I am I enjoy spending time working on my T's as well as a Model A and more recently a 1940 Cadillac LaSalle.
My brake pedal was a little low on my stock 1915 Model T so since I have a wooden band on there I thought that was a little odd. True enough they have been in there for 6 or 7 years but I broke them in softly and they have...

I have been to a lot of swap meets over the years and farm auctions and have never seen a worn out, bent or broken bandwasher In the junk box’s I have looked at. Seen a few rusty ones used as washers on old farm equipment but never a broken one. That one is probably a reproduction. Learn something new everyday I guess.

The brass one must be special order as they do not list anything before 1917 on the web site.
Gery made some brass radiators briefly a few years ago but soon gave it up. I don't know if they were ever on his website. I believe Brassworks is the only current source for new brass radiators.
At the Model T Museum the only brass era car I saw with...

There have been quite a few threads recently about caring for soft tops. It had me wondering how many people store their roadster or touring with the top up versus folded down.
As we know, a standard garage door’s height will not allow you to drive in or out of a garage with the top up. So storing a car with the top up would require you to lower...

Sometime in the future I have a customers 17 to work on that has been stored for years with top down and new tires that were allowed to go flat. The tires are shot and that top will never go back up. Too bad for them.

After disassembling and reassembling my headlights to polish them I ended up breaking a lens. Is there a source for these or do you have your local glass company cut them? Thought I'd share the before and after as well. Bottom one is before. Second is after vinegar bath. Third is polished. Turned out pretty good with minimal work.

This may be sorta off topic, but I very recently learned something about gas headlamp repop and modern glass lenses.
