Very little Fordson parts are same as T, I am aware of only the coils, and timer fitting a T. The Fordson engine was larger than a T and had a transmission with three fwd and one reverse and no brakes until the much later models.

What voltage should you get with an analog A/C voltmeter at the mag pickup point when cranking? I’m looking at a non running car that has sat for years and wondering if mag is functional. There maybe other simple test, and open for ideas. Thanks
Last post
Just checked. Looks like just over 2 volts with hand crank. May not be a good mag, but likely is a functioning mag. Thanks

I have tightened the nut holding the muffler to the engine, the threads seem to be fine but when the TT runs it vibrates, loosens and eventually unscrews. There was a part in the 2015 catalogue, (thanks Tom) 306IL Exhaust pack nut locking clamp that is not online it seems. What have you done to keep the brass nut from loosening?

Hi folks!
I own a building in the small town of Jefferson, SC, and we have this old picture of the town that everybody cherishes... I wish I had a higher resolution scan but this is from a postcard... if you click it it should get larger. Anyways, this picture is always listed as being from 1925, but I have reason to believe it's from earlier...
Last post
It looks as if there was a lot more going on in that town 100 years ago than there is now. :)
Unfortunately you're very correct. It was a cotton town, and up until about 2000 was still doing quite well. The factory shut down 1000 feet or so south of this intersection and dried up the entire town. Things are starting to look better though!

Since you say you replaced the pistons and valves, I would start there to find the problem. First thing is to do a compression check. Another potential problem with two adjacent cylinders not firing, would be a blown head gasket between the two cylinders. That would also cause low compression on those cylinders. All cylinder compression should be...

Still learning the Model T. My '15 engine needs rebuilt so I plan to put a '17 engine in for a while. Are there any issues doing that i should be aware of? I heard the '17 had a higher head. Will that cause any issues connecting to my brass radiator?
Appreciate any experienced input.

The high head might not fit under the firewall. A lot of brass car owners notch the firewall a little to clear the high head for whatever reason they want a high head (sometimes modern high compression aluminum heads or other after-market heads, sometimes simple availability). As for connecting to the radiator. Personally, I dislike notching out...

Hello Fellow MTFCA members,
I think that my 1924 Touring (w/ 27 engine and drivetrain) broke its crankshaft on the National Tour in Buellton CA last week. It made a horrible solid-metal-on-solid-metal sound while cruising in high gear. I immediately pulled over. The engine had already shut itself down. I pulled the spark plugs and am able to turn...

I believe Derek is correct about Dave Szumowski being the person you are talking about. His dual overhead cam model T is just evil . He also made a small run of Rajo 4 valves and maybe even some 8 valve heads.

Things really didn’t line up right either . Does the body bolt directly to the frame or should there be some type of spacer like a rubber washer? Thank you for any input on this.

The special body bolt I referred to above, is also used to hold the taillight bracket on 26 fenders. It really isn't a square head, but has a small 3/8 hex head. The nuts are square however. I gave out bum information above.

This weekend I removed the old top and bow wrapping on my 1915 runabout restoration project. The bows had what appeared to be original wrapping, and I felt like I was unwrapping an old Egyptian mummy. The front bow wood had 30 lbs marked on it. Does anyone know if Ford, or whomever made the top bows for him in 1915, use recycled wood for the bows?...
Last post
No, it wasn't wound around the bow. The fabric just look old, like you would see on an Egyptian mummy! The fabric on all the bows was attached the same, and looked similarly old. The middle bow had been wrapped with black fabric years ago when a new top was put on. That top was also old, my guess 50+ years.

About 2 months ago I wanted to drive the T to a place I had driven the 26 T to a year or two before. I knew that after the weather turned warm it would be impossible to make this drive because of the soft ground so time was working against me and I was just getting over major health issues that kept me inside for the entire winter. March 7th was...

Does it even get cold down in Florida? Around here a day with a high of 35 in the winter is a warm day. :)

I have the AC brakes and the set made by Richard. I was wondering if you can install the AC brakes in a wire wheel that has a small drum and a large drum in place. I have looked over the pictures of the brakes and still am not sure how they are installed. Any chance someone could take of picture of the parts laid out in the orientation they go in...

Given the fact that many people dislike lawyers but always seem to have one on retainer, combined with all the ways to improperly terminate a cable, I suspect liability is the primary cause for no supplier stepping up. Even the mfg of one kind of aftermarket brakes will not sell any actuator with it and insists it's for display only...that is a...

I’m having my crankcase pan sandblasted. Is it ok to paint the inside when I paint the outside?
Thanks Tom
Last post
Norm, Sure motor oil will protect the bare metal providing you clean the rust off the pan, assemble the engine and put it service right away. Most T's are projects that take long periods of time from beginning to end, things like condensation can aid in the deterioration. While we are debating this subject in the amount of time required to do so...

Has anyone seen Time magazines 50 worst cars of all time list? I don't know how to share the link, but it has 1909 Model T second on the list.
It describes it as the Yugo of it's day, a piece of junk.
Maybe someone should give the author a ride in an 09. I don't mean this post to be political in any way. Just concerned about miss information...
Last post
I read the fifty worst car list with the Ford Model T second a little bit ago didn't know it was Time magazine as i read it online. If I remember correctly his issue with the Model T was that it was so successful it started the country and the world on buying automobiles for personal transportation instead of using trains and the like. This rise...

I did not notice during disassembly that the carriage bolts holding the steering column flange to the firewall have two different size heads. They all seem to fit everywhere. Anyone know how these should go, and if it matters?

All Four of those bolts are the same. Many times when I run into a similar problem, I take an unknown bolt and put it in the lathe and make it the right size.

Correct me if I'm wrong...
The spindle/wheel bearing threads are Rt hand on the left and left hand on the right.
I have a loose kingpin bushing on the left and found everything I need to replace them.
I also found a spindle that looks like new, bushings nice and tight with a NOS kingpin.
I plan on just swapping spindles, this one has RH threads,...

Yes, be sure they know they have to take it apart to recore. I was quoted a price and they came back and said they wanted more. Make sure they understand it cant be twisted and the mounting holes have to be right. Just some issues I had at a highly recomended shop. That said, You wont be disappointed with a new core or radiator. Best money I spent...

Kevin is correct in his assessment of the different types of distributors made by Bosch. However, all through their production run, they only used 3 different rotors as shown in the photo. Hello all,
Still learning my way around here.....so excuse what may be a easy answer.....
I just purchased a 1921 model T Center Door.... decent shape original interior that needs to be replaced....as well as the tires. My understanding was they had split rims ...my mistake.
So how many different type of rims did the T have - How do I change...
Last post
Nice Centerdoor! Looks like a '22 to me as it has the ratchet window risers and no visor. My unmolested '22 has Kelsey rims. Someone added side lamps at some point and an after market cowel vent as well. Lots of cars were modified like that. I like the look! 28640EDA-596A-445C-A2F8-19027525E91A.jpeg
