I understand there was once a memo published that said begin offering wheels to customers in color. Use the following colors, vermilion, casino red, straw and emerald green. Stripe to match.

Even body striping would help.
Reading on, it appears the reference in the McCalley book is exactly what I was looking for.

I know it's a little late for this question but if you remove the elbow from the side of the engine block will that allow all the water to drain out, or at least enough that you don't have to worry about cracking the block when the temps get below freezing?
Just before I picked my engine up from the rebuilder last November, he ran it on a dyno,...
Last post
While it's true the plugs were a production feature, it's also true that they will get pushed out if water freezes in the block - whether it saves the block from being cracked is a wild card. Sometimes they escape damage, other times not.

On the way to dinner yesterday, the T started running rough. Parked and removed the plug. The ground electrode was bent flat. UH OH.
Changed it just to be sure. Yup, I have a broken #3 exhaust valve.
So, I've got some work to do. Not entirely sure how to go about it, but I should be fine. How difficult could it be, right?
Last post
Well, the T is back on the road.
It did have two piece valves in it. For want of a more permanent fix, I only replaced the exhaust valves as they were the most severe. I left the intakes alone.
As far as the half of the valve head that broke, it was not in the combustion chamber. Must have blown it out the manifold.
Still runs a little rough,...

Dash Clock Repair?

Hello Everyone!
My 1914 Touring has had this Eight Day clock on the dash for as long as I can remember. It’s also been right twice a day since I can remember. My dad recently took it it a clock repair ship near his house, who told him he could not fix it.
I’m hoping someone has a recommendation to THE clock repair person who could fix it....
Last post
Greg,
The very best antique clock and dash clock repair person is Mike the owner of Time Mart in Pasadena Texas.
281-487-6645 and 281-487-6156. He has fixed several dash clocks for me that couldn't be fixed and he is
very reasonable and prompt. He actually make many of the parts in his minature-ized machine shop.
I am sure he can take of you....

Herm - I'm not that much of a machinist, and certainly not an engineer, but in reading this whole thread, it sounds to me like besides making certain that replacement pins are the right diameter, it sounds as if the surface finish of the replacement pins is also much more important than one might realize!

Generally speaking, somewhere out there may be an exception? However, generally speaking, any gear sets that fit in the standard Ford rear end will fit and work in the Ruckstell, and visa versa. The spacings and offsets were designed to be absolutely compatible.
The high speed ring gears are offset farther to allow for the larger pinion gear...

It makes sense to me that a pipe run from the oil fill neck to the carburetor intake would suck air through the engine's crankcase, probably warm the air some too. But what does the fitting in between do, what does it connect to?

This would take some looking in to as the oil filler cap only acts as a vent to relieve crankcase gases created by what gets past the rings. There is no inlet system so you could not suck the gases out.
I have a hole on each side of the block which the throttle rod goes through. If I clean the engine and rinse it with a stream from a water hose,...

Ford dealers were doing in car recharge back in the day. With the plugs out, even if you are off a little the field will pull the magnets into alignment. The magneto coil ring does not have to be in contact with the magnets. It is the field that is built up in the coil ring when current is applied that would be doing the charging. Not much...

Any asbestos that may be in those is largely encapsulated, bonded and soaked in whatever the black binder material is. I wouldn't worry too much about it. However, I would probably not be wild about grinding it or cutting it by abrasive means.
All that being said, they have no use in a Model T transmission.

Got my latest issue today. On the cover is a beautiful 1914. Why is it so many people with '14s mount their horn upside down. Is it ignorance, or they plain don't care? At least 50% of the '14s I see are that way. Strange. Some '13s too.
Last post
I don't find that stating the a horn is 'upside down is very helpful without including a picture or a description like bell up or bell down . Since different types of horns were mounted differently, then upside down depends on the car year and horn type.
Since on LHD cars, multi-twist horns were mounted bell up, and single twist (as referenced in...

Sure when the stopped production the last one was stamped 15,007,033 but that was engine numbers not cars. They continued to make engines until 1941. Then when you look at the numbers in the Model T Encyclopedia there are gaps in the engine numbers. Some of...

Great Packard, just the way you like to see them. Wonder if it sold? Sure looks kinda lonely there nearly by itself in the building. Was this after vendors had packed up to go home? Final reports/thoughts with pics of your treasures welcomed.

Another thing to consider, is the bell crank. The 1925's used the bell crank up until around April, and then switched to the 1926 style. However, the two holes for it are still there. For those who are unfamiliar with the installation of the patent plate, they use the same exact rivet used for the hood lacing.

Where do you guys with 09 and 10 Tourings get your top kit from? I have the irons and wood bows but need everything else and would like to try to put a top on it before we go on tour this summer to keep the sun off my wife.

Purchased mine from Mike at Classtique Upholstery. Nice product and super nice person. I had ordered the wrong back window section and contacted him and he sent out the right one with no problems. 0503181346.jpg

Does any one have a template for a Model T ski ? I want to make my own out of wood. I'm also looking for the spindle that attaches to the truck and the ski. I believe they are calling it an L shape spindle? I have a 1927 TT Truck. Any pictures or ideas would help. Thanks Jared

When I rebuild rear ends I install a drain plug, not correct but, may come in handy.

I toured the River Rouge assembly and steel plants in about late 1965. They were building Mustangs, and the steel plant was hot! A great experience. I'm glad that I did it. I drove from Massachusetts to Detroit (Yup, I mean Dearborn) specifically for that purpose. A wonderful memory. BTW: Spel check wanted to change Dearborn to Airborne.

Alright, so I just bought a stack of glass plate negatives, supposedly all from Ford Motor Company. I figured the group would be interested to see them and help me figure out what I'm looking at here. Most are Model T Era. Here are a few, I'll post more in just a minute.

I drained my oil this evening and this part came out with the old oil. Had to wiggle it to get it through the hole. I've had a brass rivet and some small pieces of metal come out with the oil before but never seen anything like this. It looks like hardened steel, maybe a bushing? Bearing race? It's possible it's been in there for a while and just...

Good point on the magnetic plug. I have one, and this chunk was waiting at the drain without much sign that it's been grinding through the gears. I also have a magnet in the transmission screen. It found the tail of the zip tie I dropped while replacing the bands-- the little metal ratchet was enough metal to catch it.

Major Flooding On MO. River,Any T People Affected?

I think there are some T people located in or around the MO. River flood plain. Another Major flood is going on, a dam on the Niobabra River in NE.upstream from the Gavins Point Dam at Yankton SD. failed, just one of many problems. Lots of damage all along the river. I hope everyone is safe. Dave
Last post
Gavins Point increased releases to 100,000 cfs for a time to evacuate the Niobrara flood waters. The Gavins Point reservoir was at records levels even with the next upstream dam, Ft Randall, reducing releases to zero. The Corps of Engineers said they've released enough water in the last couple of days to empty reservoir over 2 times.
We're just...

Hood pinstriping

First post
Does anyone have a clear picture of what the pinstriping on the hood looks like on the early T's? I would like to pinstripe the hood of my 1910 T, but would like to see what one looks like. I realize they differ from car to car, but a basic solid red rectangle inside each riveted area is what I'm looking for.

It's great to have the period photos to refer to when a person is interested in restoring with authentic accuracy. One thing you rarely see on restorations, old photos show most of the striping was a hairline - very thin. Few modern day practitioners can pull a line that fine, and if one must rely on masking, it's pretty much impossible to stripe...

Model T humor popped up frequently in the late teens and twenties. Here we see Joe Keaton (Buster Katon's father) on the left and Joe Roberts in a scene from Neighbors . Buster tried to use his father in films when he could. Both Joe and Buster did their own stunts and injuries were frequent. In this film Joe plays the boy's father (imagine the...

So I adjusted my fuel level down and it did a bit better.. of course it was warmer today .. I think I'll take it down a little more and see what happens.
