Thanks Guys, I did notice that when I took the (in this case) nuts loose, there was hardly any resistance. I did re-torque the head once but after this I will re-torque it a few more times. Does this odd looking bumper make the car look taller in front or is it just my eyes playing tricks on me? Look at the clearance between the tires and the front fenders. Or is it just the angle of the picture?

What Richard E says is quite true. And, there is one other thing. Looking closely at the front axle, that car has the tower spring shock absorbers on it. Some of those (including this set) hold the front spring about two inches higher than the standard issue Ford perches.

Well here in SUNNY California we were blessed to be advised by the weather man that we may a dusting of snow- well last night

First off I'm new to Model Ts. Totally ignorant. I have the remains of a roadster body that I was told is a 23. The firewall is missing and in trying to do some research I find two width firewalls. One 23 and three eights wide and one 28 wide. When I measure across the body opening I get 27 inches. How does this work? Thanks.

Ran across this adv. for replacement tail lamp for the Late model Fords, '25-'27 so maybe this aftermarket one uses the Bakelite thimble connector and bayonet socket for the bulb?

I have a quick question, about a compression test on a T engine. I have several picture of the engine as it sits and wondering if a compression test can be done as the engine sits.

Mark those #'s are pretty good. I prefer to take the low compressionT engine comp test cold as it gives a better indication of cold starting conditions. Take the wet test and see if the #'s rise. It would indicate ring wear. As to a leak test: it might show leaking valves but the air would always leak past cold rings where as the wet test would...

What are the likely possibilities of ever finding a key for a Bauer Steering Wheel Lock?

I know the lock was made by Briggs and Stratton and has an E 37 Key Code showing.

If you trailer your Model T - here are some tips that minimize the risk of having it stolen .....

The past few custom car hauler trailers I have had built
were equipped with 14K adjustable couplers.

Bulldog hitch couplers are not readily available - not many trailers
utilize that type of coupler.

Even a tow truck with stinger would have no luck trying to secure
my slotted channel with chains ( either mine or theirs ) to try
and tow my trailer.

Hi Folks,
This is my first forum post. My name is Brian and I just imported a beautiful 1913 model T into the UK.

The number on the engine plate is 261644 which fits in with the age for May 1913, but unfortunately when I tried to register the car in the UK, our highways department called DVLA, sent out an inspector to see if the car was real....

This picture is from the 1912 Toronto Auto Show as found today in the Toronto archives. It's labelled as demonstrating the electric start! I'm not familiar with aftermarket starters from back then but that doesn't look to me like that's what it is. Anybody know?

Is the steel washer that goes in between the outer hyatt bearing and the outer felt seals supposed to go inside the axle housing tube or rest on the outside edge? One thing to note in the video - the washers for the radius rods go between the plain nuts and the back side of the driveshaft flange, not under the front castle nuts. :)

I am a new T owner and just purchased a 13 Touring car the person i bought it from used a 12 volt battery for cold weather starts. Should I use a 6 volt or 12 volt to fire the coils for cold starts? Would the 12 volt damage them?

just so you know...that's perfectly normal. The thermosyphon system will not tolerate a whole lot of stationary idling. So long as you can drive and climb hills without overheating, you're cooling system is operating as designed and is fine.

I have brought back one Model T from the dead and have three others that I am working on. Many in our club have done the same. What say you. With us doing that, does it make the values go down or go up ? I know that it made the value of mine to go up. To me it is more about the people I meet and to enjoy some of the usta life.

I picked up a bucket of old tools cheap at a garage sale, and this tool was in the bucket, does anybody know what it is?

Originally, I thought it was some kind of nut splitter, but the end of the plunger has a triangular cross section, not a wedge like a nut splitter would have.

I just found out about this. T thought I would share this with ya'll.
At the Grand Gulf Military Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi, is a one-man submarine that was powered by a Model T Ford Engine and used during the early prohibition period to bootleg whiskey and rum from Davis Island to Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The Cooke City Highway (Highway 212)provides a great Model T route from Billings to Yellowstone and you can proceed to Yellowstone or turn off of that and go toward Cody, WY on the Sunlight Basin Road (Highway 296). The Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody is a great stop. Both roads are very scenic but you can encounter rain and snow anytime of the year....

Slide them back, remove ears and rotate out to the right/passenger side (in this case). Last night while looking for my oil leak(s), I noticed the Oil Pan Corner Supports where not installed by the previous owner who had the engine rebuilt.

How important are these support brackets, on a 26 engine?

Well, i can offically say it is easy to drill a hole in the wrong place . :(
Now I am going to spend few hours trying to figure out if i should drill another 7/8 hole, and what to do with the one that is currently there.

I have a 1927 Roadster Pickup. It had a messed up incorrect dashboard which I replaced with a proper 1926-27 dashboard. Everything fits perfectly except the steering column seems about 1/2 to 1 too low where the dashboard clamp would attach. I would need to pull up on it pretty hard to attach the bracket. hi I have the engine out of my 26 coupe when I rebuilt it last year I put in a reground 270 cam I did not get the power increase I thought I might see I set the valves at 18 as per the shop I got it from has any body tried different setting at all if so what did you set them at and how did it run I have hc pistons in the new rebuild thanks mike

I am seriously thinking of going to the Billings tour but I also want to go to Yellowstone. My tentative plan is to see the usual sites and maybe a few dirt roads off the main highways. Is anyone interested in going in a group of Model Ts after the main tour?

It's a trivial question, I know...but it's the first thing that pops into my head when I see photos of these cars....

How did they keep the forward-most rod bearings from dying due to lack of lubrication while they constantly drove around with the nose in the air like that?

And, for that matter, how did they keep fuel flowing?

I found a nice aluminum skinned door with all hardware and original paint. There are no dents or tears in the aluminum It is wood framed. Many years ago Bruce (RIP) told me that the front doors and the Coupe door where identical. However the early Fordor were made of aluminum whereas the Coupe and later Fordor were steel.

After checking to see if I had brass thrust washers, I rebolted axle housing and drive line. How easy should the driveline axle unit turn? It seems to be pretty stiff when I turn it with a large crescent wrench. Should it be almost a free spool?
What could the cause of the stiffness be?

As long as the sleeve is not spinning on the driveshaft it should be ok. BUT! One overlooked thing is the area is where the bushing rides on at the other end. The shaft can be turned down and polished and a custom undersized bushing installed. Chances are that with the condition of that bearing at the pinion end, it will need attention.

Never have ordered or used Model T Fel-Pro set, but just looked at the set on eBay, and it isn't complete. Missing the front plate / timer cover gasket. And no felts for crank gear, but for me, I use Model A rope style. Think the Fel-Pro vintage gasket set is really overpriced for what you get for $150!

Thank you for posting. The driver is the late Elmer Bemis. It's a 1907 K Roadster #808, originally sold to the Storz brewing family in Omaha NE. The car met and piloted the German car from Omaha a ways west during the NY to Paris race in 1908. It now resides with the former Towe collection in CA.
