Number five.
Front fenders maybe non-Ford, and about 1930ish vintage. No model T engine pan, no torque tube. Might be a small engine in there somewhere? Maybe connected by pullies/belts the rear axle behind the seat? Or maybe nothing to run it? Could be a push-car for the grandkids? Likely put together during the depression.

What's everybody's personal experience with Autolite 3095 spark plugs for a Driver T ? What's your experience if you've ever used Older Firestone E-40-F plugs in your T ? Also Champion A25's ? (not the take apart type).

I believe Model T spark plugs were always half inch pipe thread, from the beginning. I don't know about all the pre-T models. The Model T parts dealers have adapters that let you use other sizes.

Recently, I have been working on a few Model T generators. When setting them up, I had some trouble with setting the brushes to the neutral plane. The general procedure I’ve been using is
1. Raise the 3rd brush
2. Loose the four screws that hold the brush rigging

4. If the armature shaft turns, rotate the...

Speedy, this morning I tried your (Ron's) method of setting the brushes at the neutral plane. Setting the brushes using my method I measured 0.145 volts at the armature. Then I set the brushes using your method and measured the voltage (had to use my setup to measure) and got 0.865 volts. This is really close, maybe one of two segments different....

I know there's only supposed to be 1 bushing in the steering shaft support bracket. However, 2 will fit. Who has used 2 bushings? I believe I have in the past, but too long ago to remember. I can't think of a reason to not do it.
I ask because I'm replacing the bushing, (or bushings?), on my Touring right now. Apparently, .025/.030 is too much...
Last post
Well, as it turns out, once I really cleaned up the bracket, I noticed that the middle section, where a 2nd bushing would go, is relieved. So if I were to push in a bushing there, it would fall into the void and be near impossible to remove!
The lesson here is: ONE BUSHING ONLY! ;)

Skinny block cheby exhaust valve stems are 11/32 0.030 oversize stem. they do not require a hardened valve seal although that is
recommended. If you use the stock valve spring retainers the installed height of the spring is a little long. You can buy special keepers
that correct this.

Have you considered brush painting with marine considered paint? They have a single part paint that flows and levels out very nicely as often boats are repainted by brush instead of spraying. Apologies if this topic has been answered before, I searched and did not find this question already discussed.
I am in the gathering parts stage of an engine rebuild. I will be using a Scat stroker crank with the larger than stock main bearing diameters. Different vendors sell various main caps for use with A and Scat stroker cranks. One vendor...

The Scat large and small journal crankshafts for use in a T block are all machined to the same journal lengths and are the same as a Ford T crankshaft. As above, only when installing an original Ford A crankshaft in a T block are the main cap lengths different from the caps that would be used to install a Scat T crank (large or small journal. With...

Lang’s 26-27 roadster top bow wood set

Anyone bought these straight pieces from Lang’s lately? Can you relate how long they are and possibly how long the dimensions are supposed to be? I’ve researched it pretty hard and the consensus seems to be 36.5” front iron and 35.5” for the back pair (that’s length between iron, with an extra ~2.5” on each end to fit into the iron).
Last post
While we’re talking measurements, is the outside to outside measurement on the front top irons (at front, just before the curve) the same as #2 and #3? Or does it go a little narrower or wider?

So I picked up a parts car with a Ruckstell a few weeks ago, and just got around to swapping the Ruckstell into my coupe today. Unfortunately it had a few issues, just wanted a second opinion before I order a few parts.
The Ruckstell itself is in excellent shape and shifts nicely, so no issues there. But there's a really bad clanking/knocking...

So did you check the D.S. also?
A shattered D.S. bearing inner race and/or bearing will exhibit the symptoms you are experiencing.
My plan now is to pull it completely apart and check it out, the axle bearings seemed a bit worn. When I install it I'm going to use my known good driveshaft off my original rear end

There is this old, old car,
Often does not go very far,
When we do get it started,
Sounds like that it farted.
Skinny tires are bare,
Hold only little air,
One wheel out of round,
Hub cap can’t be found.
Trans band more like fuss,
One coil seldom buss.
Carburetor drips some gas,
Radiator is made of brass.
Ripped top is out in back,
Nice seats...

I am in the midst of building the rear and for my speedster. I got out the rebuilt u joint I had on the shelf. It’s a Golding t parts one I bought years ago. There is a sticker on it saying that it being stiff is normal and it will get better with use. It is pretty stiff. Has anyone got experience with these? Should I look for a different one?

Fix a Rough Engine with a Ground Strap?

I've been dealing with a very rough engine for quite a while, now—much too rough to drive the car. We've tested everything, tried borrowed known-good coils, borrowed a known-good carburetor, replaced the ignition harness, spark-plugs, spark-plug cables, changed timer three times, rebuilt the coil-box, tested the compression (and thereby the...
Last post
The timer grounds the low voltage side of the coils so would not cause a jolt when you touch the body. Also grounding the engine to the chassis would not take the jolt away. Your problem is the high voltage side of the coils, that is the side which connects to the spark plugs is grounded to the chassis on one of the cylinders. You get the jolt...

Black era engines, I never paid over $50 for complete engine/transmission within these years.

That head does not look at all like a Green head. The Green head did not have a squish style combustion chamber, see We attempted to run one on a dyno 20 years ago. The contour of the chamber caused the valves to get wedged with only a 280 cam. You would have to relieve that area to run one.

My go to is sausages in sauerkraut. I use sausages like Adele’s or Evergood that cook easy. It’s important to have plenty of moisture so the sauerkraut works well. Our cooker tours usually have about an hour driving before lunch.
You shouldn’t try to cook raw meat and hard vegetables like potatoes should be precooked pretty well.

If it's locked up or, missing stuff, I'll deduct from there.

I think I would too, hard to go wrong, and if nothing else, a good block to practice on if it is boogered. And you never know, it could be alright.

My new to me T has been modified I am told such that the mag is set up to charge the battery. It also has been modified with the later hogshead/starter. I wanted to share a recent install on my 1913 Touring. I had to drill a second set of holes in the master cylinder bracket to get the cylinder level. I used the Harbor Freight bleed tool to purge the air from the system.

I agree with what Gene said - Also, if your wheel spokes are bad, any amount of braking is bad. I have many thousands of miles on disc brakes and think I only locked them up once....with no ill effect. The main advantage I see is that the disc brakes are an entirely separate braking system. They don't put strain on the drive train or overheat the...

Is the firewall to frame brackets for the wooden firewalls a left and a right?
The reason I ask is the pair that were on this speedster are exactly the same and the person who built it put one flat side to engine and the other flat side to coil on the firewall which seems to put the firewall at a bit of an angle.
I would think they should be...

But the rear crossmember was trimmed and there are many holes in many places on the frame so without a diagram of frames marking what holes are what and where they are located it's a daunting task. Some holes are square, and some are round. Little was attached to the frame so I would not know what was attached where....

Mark that’s a good tip, I can’t find the thread but I believe it was Dan McEachern that gave the tip of putting a scoop on the ring gear support Bell Housing (P159) to increase lubrication into the differential housing. Dan please excuse me if that’s not correct it was years ago but it was really easy to do.

Not T-centric. In fact, I think I saw more Packards. There is a shot of the storefront on Bagley that replaced Ford’s home along with a photo of a twenties Coupe on the street.
It also reminded me of Mom telling me to catch the DSR bus. The trolleys were gone by the time I was born but they hung onto the “Street Railway” for many years.
