Check the Ruckstell Bronze Thrust Plate

Hello T-people
I'm in the process of rebuilding my Ruckstell axle. I had to align the Bronze Thrust Plate and rework it slightly. Now I can't find any information about a dimension (picture) that I would like to check.
Does anyone know this exact measurement when new and can help me?
Greetings from Switzerland

Mark that’s a good tip, I can’t find the thread but I believe it was Dan McEachern that gave the tip of putting a scoop on the ring gear support Bell Housing (P159) to increase lubrication into the differential housing. Dan please excuse me if that’s not correct it was years ago but it was really easy to do.

Old Detroit Photos

Not T-centric. In fact, I think I saw more Packards. There is a shot of the storefront on Bagley that replaced Ford’s home along with a photo of a twenties Coupe on the street.
It also reminded me of Mom telling me to catch the DSR bus. The trolleys were gone by the time I was born but they hung onto the “Street Railway” for many years.

Greetings,
I recently acquired a January 1915 centerdoor (and yes, it’s really Jan ‘15). The upholstery is pretty good original, but the window riser straps are salvageable scraps of cloth, the original leather pieces are completely missing. Is there anyone who could make me a new set, or, are there plans and specs available anywhere?
Thanks....

Hey Guys!
So for 3 years I've lived with a ting ting ting ting ting coming from the front of the engine. The noise has continued after a recent Texas T Distributor removal and E timer installation. Have you checked the front bearing on the generator? It could be worn.
A problem I had with one of my T's was a ping ping at idle. No noise when going above idle. This was caused by the pin which goes through the crankshaft and pulley being loose and moving up and down at idle. When running above the idle the centrifugal force would keep it from...

I never us Loktite on bearings that fit as they should. In this application, the spindle is worn. A ferrule fitting creates a shear line. Compression rings are not a good fix. I have seen copper lines break off @ the ring edge. If using a steel line you may not shear the line, but I dont take the chance.

Checking for a newly revived TT’s owner, does anyone make floor boards for the TT commercially. If not does anyone have any plans with location & measurements? The owner said he’s just about wasted an entire 4x8 sheet of plywood trying to get a good fit. I have to admit I did chuckle. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, I installed the 1924 cab on a 26-27 chassis, and lowered IMG_1235.jpeg IMG_1237.jpeg ] the roof so it will fit in a standard garage. All original running gear with some modern upgrades for safety & convenience. Tried to use up surplus T parts before they end up in the scrap heap.
The truck Henry Ford should have thought about producing.

I'm hunting for a front left fender for a 1927 T and have been offered a fender from a 1926.
Anyone know if this will be a matching fender for the '27?
Many thanks,
Joe
Last post
Wow, I'm surprised that there are so many large and small differences between fenders. I'm going to get my 2 front fenders out and compare them with each other to see if they even match each other.
What a can of worms to sort through - or maybe just bolt on a replacement fender and call it close.....
Thanks for your feedback,

If I was to have that corroded head welded and resurfaced, I would have the large hole between 2 and 3 which has no counterpart in the block, welded shut. Mine and that of a New Zealander required this when both warped between those cylinders. Perhaps that's where going Going south originated
Others have not had the same problem.

Tight steering

First post
Happy Easter.
I've only driven the car in and out of the garage, about 50 feet forward and 50 back. When backing up, I tend to stop at the garage door and then push it back in because of visibility and close proximity to my other cars. The steering is very tight. I cannot move the steering wheel when the car is sitting still.
Is this normal?...
Last post
Up to this point, no one has really suggested..Clean and oil the bushings kingpins and joints, not to mention clean and repack wheel bearings. The car may move a little bit better for you.

Is this 25 T or something else? Can parts be found as it currently does not work. Can fabric be added to make it functional?
Last post
Found this number stamped on the shade bar.
Also, it only turns in one direction and does not seem to spring bar as of it wanted to roll back up.
This task is low on my list.

Found washer in bendix.
Found the screw head in the oil drain plug.
Anyone know where they might have come from?
Engine still runs.
Last post
YIKES. That screw is what holds the magnet keeper plate. That means an engine/flywheel pull.
Dont run it until fixed.
If you have a starter, you can remove it(bendix first) & rotate the flywheel to view the magnet/keepers/screws & confirm.
Wont be easy to see behind the field coil. Use a dental mirror. Either way a loose magnet keeper will tear...

Adventures with Me and Henry and the Model T
by
fredtmac » Sun Apr 21, 2024 3:14 pm
Never posted this before but got to thinking about a book I wrote a couple of years ago about my adventures with the Model T. It starts with my childhood interest in Model Ts and comes all the way to current times when I had the opportunity to purchase seven Model Ts including one that was similar to the one that started it all back in the 40s. It...

Small drum, rollers rotate. The way they’re set up, looks like they should/could mesh with a toothed gear. Drums are cast and thick.

Loose Rear Wheel

I see many posts regarding tight rear wheels, but my rear wheel almost dropped off when I removed the nut. How tight should the hub fit on the axle, and when do I know if shims are needed?
That question aside, I think I may need a new axle anyway, as it has .055 up & down play and the outer bearing is only about .003 undersized.
Last post
Phillip - Finger tight? Oh my! I wonder how many reading this also have loose rear axle nuts..... I'm sure there's a few.
A new Model T owner friend of mine was driving a busy (six lane) city street last fall when one of his wheels fell off. We think the nut was tightened, at least somewhat, but the cotter key was overlooked.
Normally very...

My '14 T has a very minor fuel tank leak in the area where the sediment bowl screws in and I'm going to attempt a soldering repair. I have a large electric soldering iron, and the tank is not rusty inside or out, so should I be concerned about a big bang ??? Not going anywhere near it with an open flame, just the soldering iron, solder and flux...
Last post
when you are at an antique shop or a swap meet, keep an eye out for one of these copper soldering irons.
I use the oxygen acetylene torch to warm the copper head up to a dull red. They will hold the heat for a fair amount of time, and are totally safe to use, since there is NO open flame.
And, they are just the ticket for repairing radiators...

I know it's hard to find a good set of rims for the 23 inch TT rear wheels but if you were to find a nice pair with the silver still looking good and no rust or damage, what would you expect a fair price would be?

Thanks for your help with this. I was thinking they'd be a little more expensive so this is helpful. I have also paid less for the more common rims at auctions but for the less common stuff I am lost and want to be fair to both buyer and seller. The TT rims from what I understand are a little tougher to find but I believe the 23 inch are not as...

The less run out the better. Zero is ideal. It's a good idea to retorque all fasteners after running the car a hundred miles or so after having hubs off or wheels respoked or demountable rims taken apart.

Also, the Mag Coil ring needs a notch on the left side to clear the starter bendix drive. Unless the previous owner was planning on a starter at some time later, more than likely the original flywheel and mag ring was used.

How many volts output from generator?

My generator wasn't charging so I cleaned the armature and got it going but was surprised when I checked the voltage. I was expecting made 9 volts but it was bouncing between 12 and 14 before the cutout and just over 6 after the cutout. Is it normal to get that much juice out of the generator?
Last post
Jeff can be contacted at www.modeltstarters.com . 6 volt negative ground voltage regulator for Model T generator
Or just message me at jeff@modeltstarters.com.
I will say that I'm also making Diode cutouts that are able to handle 60A which is 2x what the NuRex cutouts handle, and are $8 less expensive. Honestly I wouldn't waste time on cutouts...
