my son and I just picked these up. They are both 26’s. The roadster came as a complete unit just not pictured that way. It also has a ruckstell axle. The chassis does not have a ruckstell but I happened across one for $100. It is an earlier model with small brakes and I would like to use the larger brakes. On the stock side can I just use the...

What is the best way to transport a C-Cab on a flat open trailer where the roof will not be ripped off by the wind. Do you strap down the top of the roof to secure if down further. Back in onto the trailer so the wind hits the solid portion of cab or just wrap...

Sorry, I never followed up with this post.
All 3 bands were installed backwards with the detachable ear on the passenger side.
Turns out the band that popped loose was a generic band and the other 2 were Ford.
We replaced the generic band with a Ford band after removing the HH and now all bands are correctly installed.

Does anyone know what the maximum oil temperature might be anticipated for a Model T? I'm still playing with rare earth magneto parts and 300 degrees F. seems to be the threshold temp. for neodymium.
Last post
I have been fiddling with this for a few years and have made some very successful prototypes. They simply replace the original magnets with aluminum/rare earth pieces which lighten the flywheel about eight pounds and increase voltage by 30 to 40 percent with a mag gap of nearly 1/8 inch. Originally used samarium cobalt magnets which have a maximum...

It's interesting that Henry was bragging that it was not an 'assembled' car.
It is interesting to note that statement, which was fact, not a boast. Although Ford jobbed out the manufacture of components, the Model T was Ford’s concept and unlike any other. To make the distinction, there were not a few companies in that era, eager to get into...

Mike Kosser wrote a simple procedure to verify the timer moves far enough between full retard and full advance.
Basically the timer needs to move at least 0.91 to get full range and best performance on any timer you use.
I stole them and have posted them here.

I tried charging the battery, but it was taking it's time getting there so I decided to try my luck at crank starting it as the coils were buzzing. I got it to 'pop' a couple times and even got a 'free start' once, but it didn't start. The question I...

Excess cranking will heat up the cables, but they should not get extremely hot. With any electric starter on any vehicle, it's best not to engage the stater for more than 10 to 15 seconds at a time. Doing so can overheat the starter windings. If the engine doesn't start within a few seconds of cranking, it's best to stop cranking and find out why...

Last post
If you know what valve clearance is required for your given cam/valves, in some brass shim of that thickness, you could punch out a disc or two to fit into the lifter recess. Then trim the valve stems to suit and the shims will leave you with the gap you want.

Minimal to none.
There are spring steel bearing tensioner spacers available to go under the rear bearing to take away that slop.
You can also drop in an extra generator felt seal in under the bearing that will take out the play.

I purchased a bunch of weatherstrip at one time some years ago and am just now getting to the doors. I found this package without any label or part number on it. So, I took photos for help in identifying it. The weatherstrip looks like there is enough to do the leading edge of both doors in between the hinges. But I really do not know where it is...

The item on the left is what I used for the windshield.
I remember now trying to install the item on the right into the door glass channel and it would not fit. The problem must have been the laminated glass and at the time, I decided to do without. Maybe I tried the wrong item.

A while ago I did my transmission bands, I made 2 mistakes, I didn't put anything on the felt strip as I understand you need to put some shellac or something on them which I didn't know then. The second was I did not use any gasket maker as I thought for some reason it wont leak after it gets tightened a few times and compresses, which it did but...

Tolerable Tolerances

Deep into the rear axle now. Id like to ask for the acceptable range of tolerances as measured on a caliper guage for: 1) rear axle beyond the spindle; 2) axle sleeve; 3) the bearing itself. Thanks.
Last post
This is not a criticism, but an observation: since you are asking those questions, this is your first rebuild, and as such, you are almost certainly not aware of other questions regarding wear/tolerances which are critical to a safe and reliable rebuild. If this is the case, then you need to order a rear axle rebuild book from any of the usual...

Briggs and Straton Switch Panel
by
J1MGOLDEN » Thu Sep 18, 2025 8:58 am
Does anyone know what this Switch Panel goes to, seem like I saw one once on an early fire truck.
The key works and has BASCO on it. The fuse cover is missing, but they are labeled Horn, Rear, RHead, and LHead.
A spare fuse stands on end in the middle.

1926 Radiator Neck Repair

I’m looking for some advice on how to properly repair the neck on my 1926 Depot Hack radiator.
The neck originally cracked about a year ago. I wasn’t able to find anyone locally who felt confident making the repair without risking discoloration to the chrome-plated neck. As a last resort, I tried JB Weld (high heat) — cleaned everything...

That filler neck will fall off again if it isn’t mechanically attached to the tank somehow before it is sealed with solder.
Maybe... maybe not.
It's been maybe 25 years that I've had my Speedster. I bought a really nice, freshly re-cored radiator for it at a swap meet for only $150. When I went to use the radiator, I noticed that the upper...

Is Tom’s radiator service in Kansas still in business? I’d like to have my original 1916 brass radiator re-cored and have heard Tom was the go to guy.

The Model T radiator core was also used in some of the fork lift tools.
There is someone still making them, as an old radiator shop in Baltimore, MD is still redoing the Model T radiators with them.

Do you know there business name?

Over the years, I have seen only a few of these hilarious cops that raise their arms when you apply the brakes on the car. They are quite rare, and I finally gave up looking for one, and decided to make my own, from scratch. My wife blew up a photo of one to full size, and I carefully cut the image out, and temporarily contact cemented it to a...

I've gotten my 1926 coupe to idle smoothly and start up without a hitch. It has new fuel, new plugs, rebuilt carb, etc. but any time I get the RPMs above probably 1500-1600 it sounds and feels like it's about to shake apart! This happens when driving and when it is just sitting in the driveway. I heard it could be the fan (new, 4 blade on there)...

I thought I'd share a recent discovery I haven't seen mentioned here. Strobe lights that measure rpm have been around for decades. Good ones with digital readouts are expensive. Here's a way to get one for free using your smartphone to Measure the RPM of your motor, your wheels, your water pump, lathe, whatever!
Search for the app StrobeLight...

70 mile tour coming up and one of the participants has a T without a magneto and without a generator. Any experience out there how long the battery will hold out? Will be a full day of driving with perhaps 5-7 starts with the electric starter. Assumption is a group 1 6volt battery, not new, and less than fully charged at the onset.

Just purchased a 8 valve Roof head. Don't know anything about the history. It appears that the head has been reconditioned. The valves are new as well as the springs. Rockers are reconditioned as well.
I am looking for pushrods and a correct head gasket. As I know little or nothing about the Roof, I would appreciate any help you could provide....

But in the meantime, I have the part and would like to find out how to replace the gear engagement piece.

Here is the picture of the one that came off the car and the replacements.
There has to be a way to replace it....
