I posted recently about finding a bracket to install a rear right side turn signal as compared to the only left one. I have a 1927 Coupe. A friend told me that I should investigate wireless (magnetic stick on) turn signals. He told me about a company in New York, Egypt, that made/makes them but I cannot seem to find it.

How fast will your Model T go, 40mph, 45mph, 50mph? Doesn't matter because you only have brakes for 32mph. The real question is not how fast will it go but fast will it stop!

With the Holidays over and the bitter cold days of Winter dragging along, time to start thinking about Model T activities again. My name is Matt, and I’m proud to now be the caretaker of a 1926 Model T Touring that’s been in my family for decades. Seems the plate is held in the housing with those circular like upsets, like small rivets. You might try to carefully pry the plate off the housing. That may free the internal spring and socket.
Going back together some sort of fasteners will be needed, as the spring behind the cup and bulb contact exerts some force. Maybe small Pop...

I have rebuilt engine that is stiff to turn over. I was thinking about pulling the spark plugs and squirting oil in each cylinder then
pulling the car around the yard to loosen up the engine.
Kind of like a poor mans engine run in stand.
Last post
A new rebuild shouldn’t be that tight to begin with. If you rebuild an engine and you build it fairly tight use some lubriplate , STP at least a coat of oil on all the bearing surfaces. A coat of STP on the bearing surfaces works pretty well. Just a little makes the surfaces really slick.

I'm not sure what those gear ratios are on those pulleys. Max output of a T gen is 100watts. P=VI, so 100w/6v=16.667 amps. I always recommend charge rates of 3-5A, so if it was a reduced speed, it would charge, yes. If you notice how the gen acts when a T is idling,...

I recently finished the build of a 1926 Model T Speedster with an oval gas tank. I would like to add the appropriate Ford decal for the period on the sides of the gas tank but cannot seem to find a place to purchase them, even though I have seen many gas tanks with the decal/vinyl on the side. Any idea where to purchase them decals?
Last post
If you are using a standard T oval tank, most I have seen have a depressed X pattern in the ends. A vinyl stick-on may not be the answer. A vehicle wrap type application should do the trick. Maybe neither will appreciate fuel being spilled over them.

One of our members was having issues keeping the fan belt on the pulley. I used an old trick of turning it around. Now it stays where it belongs.
Cheap fix to a frustrating problem. I forgot who told me KISS just might solve your problem.
I forget the technical reason why this works. Some sort of flaw in the manufacturing process
that makes one...

I would wire it from the battery lead, (the thick yellow wire), with a switch placed in-line. That way, it can be used at any time, whether or not the car is running or if the headlights lights are turned on.

Patterson Speedometer Drive for Model T

Unlike the NASH transmission mounted speedometer drive sold for Model T's, which used more than two gears, did the Patterson drive use only two gears, one on the transmission output shaft and one on the end of the cable which was secured to the transmission inspection cover?
Last post
The drive I have has a four start spiral gear and a 10 tooth fibre pinion gear which is well worn. The top right hole in the cover is round as usual. All the others are slotted. I presume this is to allow some sort of mesh adjustment between the spiral gear and the pinion.

You don't need the height to identify a low shell. If the sides are square the front, it is a low shell. If the sides are flared outwards to the rear, it is a high shell. The height may help if one is not aware of the above.

Can anyone identify this electronic model t timer? Any information would be appreciated. What else does it need to make it work? Thank you!

That looks like the Tru-Fire ignition without the center piece that mounts on the cam shaft.

Voltage drop on Magneto meter shifting from B to M

My 12 T is equipped with the later Magneto meter. I see a significant voltage drop in indicated on the magneto meter when I shift from Battery to Mag. What should I see? It currently is unhappy running on Mag.
Last post
In retrospect I should have posted the arching however in that the mag never worked right from the beginning after a full rebuild including rebuilt coils. I did not consider that the arching would have discharged the magnets that I fully charged individually and pull tested all magnets to exceed 3 # with a spring scale. Now we all know that can...

My top irons are need of painting.
I am thinking of a semi-gloss black.
Or should I go to a flat black?
What have you guys/gals painted your top irons?
Thank you

Gloss black, in enamel. It is more resistant to chipping/damage when folding the top.

Hello,
As I dive into the mechanical work on my speedster, I want to inquire about the changes in sizing, geometry, etc. for the tie rods, pitman arm, etcetera over the course of the T’s production. My car is a bitsa car and I have even more extra pieces that I want to swap out on the car for my RHD conversion.
I am aware of some issues that...

When building a speedster, every modification is likely to lead work-arounds later in the build. For example, If you use a dropped axle, you will have to consider which spindle arms to use. If you introduce a double wishbone, you may have to reconsider spindle arms again. Adding an accessory transmission leads to further compromises/alterations....

Importance of Proper Timing for Safety

There have been a few posts recently about starting the engine with the timing advanced and I was surprised that some people do it intentionally. The following is with regards starting with the switch on BAT. Starting a Model T engine with an advanced spark lever could result in a broken arm or a damaged starter bendix. Here is why. The combustion...

And again.
All it takes is just one time and you’ll find out the hard way why the spark is retarded when hand cranking a T. We have to remember our modern cars and trucks do all the thinking for us when we start and drive them.
WE have to do the thinking for a Model T when we start and drive them. Its just the opposite in our modern vehicles.

I recently purchased a side draft Zenith carburetor that is configured for the Model T. It is straight through construction and has patent dates of 11/29/08 and 6/27/18. It seems to be a solid, well made unit. I'm wondering if any of you guys have experience with these carbs and have anything pro or con to say about them. All comments are welcome....

Thanks for your replies, Gents. The venturri in mine is not pot metal. Looks like someone made a steel or iron one for it in the past (magnetic). I see evidence that the choke plate has been removed and reinstalled. Maybe I got lucky. I'll probably replace a sway-back NH with it somewhere down the road and see what happens.

Seem 30X3 Brass Stem Inner Tubes are not available. I would use the Hartford rubber stem tubes but the stem does not fit through the rim hole. Can a 30X3.5 Inner tube be used on a 30X3 wood fellow wheel?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Tim

The flange on the valve stem and the ridge on the bridge washer make a physicsl connection when the stem is fitted. It should make no difference if the stem looks a little plasticy . All that is needed is some crush. Who knows? Maybe the new stuff won't ever blow off the brass stem tube like it has on tubes in the past.

Thanks for posting the picture, Dan.
I bought Otis from John Mays, as Will pointed out, in the spring of 2017. John had acquired it from another collector and, perhaps foolishly, I didn't get any details from him. Otis did come with a pair of very rusty 1914 New York license plates, so he might have resided in New York state at one time. Googling...

Thanks Craig.
The exhaust casting is a mystery part found on tbay.
Fits the hot plate pattern near perfect. no gasket. I speculated it was from a knight sleeve valve motor or tractor.

Very slow cooling after pouring will normalize a casting like an engine block, but that is not compatible with mass production. The T block must have been a pretty good design, since they are not known for cracking except as a result of abuse. I have no idea how they cast so many blocks so rapidly, but whatever they did seemed to work well. They...

Most Model Ts leak more or less oil. One sure way to get one to leak excessively is to put too much oil in the engine. There are a number of inexpensive things that can be done to minimize oil leakage. Often, just snugging up oil pan and valve cover bolts will reduce oil leakage. Most Model Ts can benefit from a general tightening , which consists...
