Car appears to have a horn bulb on the drivers non-door, and black trim on the lamps. So likely a mid to late 1915. Electric horns began showing up on open cars about early June (I think?) 1915, black trim lamps during July 1915, but some cars still got bulb horns as late as probably September of 1915.
Great photo! Love the house.

A good screen and clean sediment bulb under the gas tank is all you need for a filter. Water or sediment go to the bottom of the bulb while gas is filtered through the screen. A good free flowing fuel line with both ends higher than the center so any vapors will rise either to the tank or the carburetor will prevent vapor lock. And a good free...

I would use boiled linseed oil, the closest to an archival/reversible finish you will likely get, plus since it is a drying oil, it will not leave an oily mess. Keep the coat very thin, you aren't painting it, it may take a week or so to be fully dry. Put oily rags outdoors, preferably after soaking them with water as they release heat when the...

Hello all.
I have a 1922 touring with a 2 man top. I have been thinking about side curtians for my car. Top is new. I know that you can get them through Classtique upholstery, but for what price, i don't know.
I would be interested in hearing ideas and pictures of side curtians from other members cars.
I am more interested in safety over...

1913 Pin stripe

I was wondering on the very early 1913 touring cars was the pin striping just on the body? Or was it also on the hood and or fenders?
Thanks
Don
Last post
Stripe the body and wheels only, nothing else for 1913. Striping in French gray.
Body striping outlines the panels of the body. Wheel striping runs around the rims and in V darts on the spokes.

Last fall I picked up a bunch of rusty coil hardware and have been cleaning it up, chasing threads etc. Unfortunately most of the springs are bent or rusted beyond use. If I can find the specifications, I’m sure I can find some new spring for a reasonable price on line.
Does anybody have the specifications for the vibrator adjusting bolt spring,...
Last post
If you want to save all the old coil hardware, cut yourself a length of clothes hanger wire, put the springs, standoffs, and nuts on the wire and then polish up on a wire wheel. Once cleaned, those old springs can be extended by outward pressure to fit your needs on coil rebuilding.

Tim,
I see Certain Teed has been making shingles since 1904. I think it is indeed the same company. I worked for the Wisconsin Central Railroad and we shipped granules from 3M in Wausau to the plant you are talking about just off the turnpike at US 250. My Mom and Dad lived in Norwalk until 2005. I always got off at that exit.

The discussion Originality had some questioning about 1925 fenders. So I started to see what I could find (see below). That thread needs to hold a torque of 100 ft lbs. If the nut slips, it will not hold and no mater what you do, it will not stay tight. welding and re-threading, will change the temper of the steel axle and cause it to be weakened. The cost of a NEW axle is worth it.

How do you replace a 4 hole handbrake quadrant.
Does the running board and splash guard need to be removed, can you remove the splash guard without removing the touring body?
Do you grind off the rivet heads, considering that there is gallons of fuel in close proximity and the fuel line and (leaking) carby is within spark range.
Any advice...

If the cold chisel doesn't work, you are left with drilling the rivets out, so the valance panel needs to be removed, and that means the running board too.
The back two rivets could be drilled off from the INSIDE, but to do the same with the front two, you would need to remove the hogshead! I reckon the valance panel would be easier.

The object of the rolling billboard would seem to be a 1914 car, with interesting modifications. Rather beat-up, but not bad for a car some sixteen years old in that era. IMG_4949.jpeg

This is a bit OT, but it's related to Model T's and you'll enjoy the story. And it might help you avoid scams when you sell your T parts.
So I was contacted by a Wolfgang Mischke wanting to buy several Model T Voltage Regulators. No red flags, I get LOTS of inquiries, sometimes from distributors, sometimes foreign countries like New Zealand,...

This is going to be full of maybe’s and possibilities, but the story is that I live in west central Indiana, and I have a large, maybe 30” butt size, ash tree in my front yard that died last summer. It has probably two good sized logs in it that should be reasonably clear, no knots I am guessing. I also have a friend with a sawmill about 3 miles...

So i ordered 2 gas shut off valves that are the 90 degree that go by the carburetor from langs. Whats the difference betweed the old ones and new ones?
Last post
I have a new one I purchased from Lang’s. I too found over time that it became more difficult to operate, to the point of using pliers to turn it. I took it apart thinking that debris might be causing the issue. What I found was after cleaning, it worked fine for a while then reverted back to almost impossible to turn. Upon the second or third...

My top is old but usable the only problem is that at high stress points some of the thread at the seams is getting pretty weak and breaking. In most places I have been able to reinforce these spots as I notice them and thus far everything is holding up. I do have one problem that I hoped you would have a good solution for. The back window came...

But not in California, where they are still legal...
CA Veh Code § 27450 - §27453. (2022) goes over the regulations on wear and construction of solid rubber tires in California... but in no way prohibits them.

If I want to switch from ball bearings to Timkens, do I need to remove the inner race that’s on the threaded spindle and if so, how?
Last post
The inner ball bearing cone on the spindle can with care, be cut off the spindle with a welders torch. I've done this several times with rusted bearing cones without damage to the spindle itself.

We have purchased the inner rear axle neoprene seals and have encountered a problem installing them. I have never installed these before, so I am a neoprene seal virgin. Be gentle with me. :)
There were no instructions or diagram included with the seals indicating the direction the rubber seal is supposed to face. Logic tells me that the...

Instructions may help, for this seal the metal washer is for the Hyatt bearing race to butt against, just like the washer for the outer felt seal. So metal out ;)
A long pick with slight hook can grab that seal to remove, may have to pierce the plastic, likely wrecking that seal. :(

Regarding Dayton Wire Wheel Company, I had my Simplex wire wheels re-spoked, trued-up, and balanced there about 10 years ago. They did excellent work.

If the car has all the original 1915 wiring, eg no starter or generator, constant loss electrical system for the coils and lights, then you can safely hook it up either way... in fact, it's better for the points of the coils if you reverse it every so often. I'll even throw another ringer in here - if this is the case, and you normally run on mag,...
